I was only trying to help a friend. I swear. I was legit asking for a friend who was finally ready to date again.I knew what she wanted in a man — smart, funny, ambitious, well-read (no, the sports section doesn’t count), and plays a wicked game of badminton. So I did what any good friend would do. Posted it for her. It seemed like a good idea at the time — I’d weed through the candidates, and … candidates, and bring her my top picks.
But then he responded.
Is it wrong to date the guy I screened for my bestie? Not asking for a friend.
Indulge in the BOYFRIEND MATERIAL series! Three best friends. Three outrageous proposals. Three chances to fall in love. Three brand new standalones from Lauren Blakely!

“I swear I am only asking for a friend”, or that is what Amy thought she was doing when she created a profile on a dating app to help weed through all the crazy men out there and find the perfect match for her bestie. When Amy, aka Betty Boop finds her own prince charming or hot nerd, she doesn’t know what she needs to do. She did this for her friend, but he is perfect for her except there is also a guy she works with that is perfect for her too but she isn’t ready to date or so she thinks.
Link is new to New York, he left his last job to get a fresh start and the last thing he wants is to get tangled up literally with someone he works with so when a new friend suggests he set up an online dating profile he figures why not. When he starts chatting with Betty Boop she seems so familiar and he is instantly attracted to her personality since he can’t see what she looks like yet, but he is still attracted to the funny, perky woman he works with too. What to do?
This is such a fun book that is filled with back and forth banter between Amy and Link and you can feel the energy between these two. It has a “You’ve Got Mail” feel in that neither Amy or Link know who they are chatting with in the beginning but both wish it was each other. I love the inner workings of the office and all the tie ends to favorite old characters. I really enjoyed this book.
I received an early copy to read and review and give my honest opinion. I loved these characters, they are fun and interesting and the book flew by for me while reading. Loved the side characters too and revisiting old favorites from other books by this author. It’s lighthearted and pure love and I highly recommend it.
Lauren Blakely’s books are always a lot of fun to read, and “Asking for a Friend” was no exception. I really needed a lighter read after having picked up several emotional rollercoasters lately, and this story fit the bill perfectly. I found myself laughing out loud more than once and ended up finishing the book with a huge smile on my face. The story was funny, charming, and delightful, the characters were incredibly likeable, and the central relationship between main characters Amy and Linc was beautifully developed.
Amy was so quirky, funny, and adorable that it was impossible not to love her. I especially enjoyed her clever wordplay and how much she joy she found in her thesaurus. Linc was also a fantastic character because he was not only incredibly handsome but also a genuinely nice guy. That said, my favorite part about this book was the banter, both between Amy and Linc and between Amy and her best friends, Peyton and Lola. I loved the way that the girls were able to tease each other but still convey how much they cared for one another. As for Amy and Linc, their conversations were so funny but also showed just how perfect they were for each other. Their minds worked in such similar ways, and it was easy to see how much pleasure they took in just being together and trying to make each other laugh.
I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

5 “hot tamale” stars!
Asking for a Friend is a hilarious, sweet, and ultra swoony workplace romance with a twist. It’s the perfect combination of naughty and nice, and delivers a smile-inducing rom com I couldn’t put down!
Amy is a junior editor at Bailey and Brooks Publishing and books are her life. She puts her all into her job and isn’t looking for love but it doesn’t stop her from noticing her new coworker.
“What is Clark Kent’s name?
Just in case I want to stalk the new employee.
I mean, look him up and do a little friendly neighborhood research as the who this hot tamale is.
Wait. I don’t have time for hot tamales.
I have a promotion to win.”
Linc moved to NYC from Los Angeles to work for Bailey and Brooks. He is focused on his job and is glad to finally move on from a workplace romance gone bad. He refuses to enter a relationship with a coworker again, even if he has an immediate and wild attraction to Amy.
Amy and Linc click from the start but they are bound to be just friends because an office romance isn’t in the cards for them. Or is it?
With characters I couldn’t help but fall for and a storyline that was entertaining and so much fun, I thoroughly enjoyed Asking for a Friend. Amy is awesome. Her love of reading made me happy and I loved how relatable she was. Linc is the sweetest guy. He supports Amy completely and his compliments are real. Everything that comes out of his mouth is swoon worthy, and I fell fast for him.
It is refreshing to see a hero and heroine have tons in common and get along from the get go while still being believable and true to their characters. Every interaction between Amy and Linc is adorable and their story is perfectly crafted. There is very little angst and no stupidity as Amy and Linc figure out whether or not they can fit into each other’s lives and plans permanently. There is flirtatious banter and fantastic text messages that lead to laugh-out-loud comedy, and sizzling chemistry that brings on the smoking hot sexy times. The wonderful and believable friendship they form provides a solid foundation for a long lasting relationship, and I loved watching them fall.
“We go from hot, fevered, pent-up lust to something else.
Something more.
I know I’m in this deeper than I thought.
I’m sinking under, and I don’t want to come up for air.”
I adore Linc and Amy’s friends and family, and their roles in the story. I can’t wait to get more of them in the next books. Amy’s pitch for Sex and Other Shiny Objects is fantastic and I am excited for Peyton and Tristan’s story.
Overall, Asking for a Friend is a delightful, feel good read. It’s the first book in the Boyfriend Material series and a total hit, and I can’t wait for more!
Should I read this book? Asking for a friend. And hell yes you should!!
Linc moves from LA and works as a senior editor at the same place Amy works at. When they first meet, they are smitten with each other. The only problem is that Amy has decided to take a break from men so that she can concentrate on landing a big job promotion. And well Linc as vowed never to have another office romance again.
When Amy’s friend goes through a horrible breakup, she decides to give her a little push by setting her up on a dating website where she will vet the men for her all while trying to gain the confidence she needs in selling herself to land her promotion. Linc on the other hand wants to forget about wanting Amy and creates a profile for himself as well. The two got back and worth but neither of them can figure out why the other sounds so familiar to the other and secretly hoping that they are the real life Amy and Linc. As soon as Amy realizes how she feels, she confesses to her friend what she has done and feels guilty. Her friend not knowing what Amy was doing, tells her to go for it. Eventually Linc finds out who he was really talking to and tries to meet her while Amy fights her feelings about going on this date. Once they finally meet up, their story really comes to life.
These two characters had me laughing with their funny bantering. I enjoyed another great read from Lauren Blakely.
Asking For A Friend is the newest book by Lauren Blakely. Linc has just moved to New York from LA after a bad “office romance” break-up. Linc is very handsome, swooney, has a way with words, and as Amy will call him “delish”(very much so). Linc definitely knows his way around the publishing world as well as a woman’s body. When you look up “complete package” in a thesaurus you would find Linc’s picture!! Amy Summer loves editing/publishing books, vanilla lattes, and her family. She enlists the help of her brother, Josh, to help her learn how to better “sell” herself to her bosses in the hopes of getting a new job at her work. She knows how to sell a book but her self-confidence needs a major boost. The chemistry between Linc and Amy is so easy to see even before they actually know they are talking to each other on a dating app they are using. The twist is that Amy is “screening” the contenders for her friend, Peyton, who is considering getting back out into the dating world. I completely love how Ms. Blakely writes a story. Her heroines and heroes are fun, relatable, strong in character, have hearts-of-gold, and a beauty that is so obvious from the inside as well as outside. Totally recommend Asking For A Friend by Lauren Blakely. A fun read that I very easily give 5 stars. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Lauren Blakely is the queen of rom-com. I adored this. Her writing flows well, and her characters are addicting, quirky and full of charm.
In Asking for a Friend, we meet Amy & Linc. Both extremely quirky and instantly loveable. I loved their fun, playful banter, and also the chemistry and steam level between them was off the charts.
Amy is a junior editor and a huge book nerd. She is a smart, sweet and hard working. She decides to help a friend by creating her dating profile and the next thing you know she is helpoing her self instead of “Asking for a Friend”.
Linc is new in town and has just started as the new senior editor. He is instantly attracted to Amy but as you typically see with office romance tropes they both have their reasons for not pursuing a workplace romance. But of course, they soon realize their attraction is too strong to keep ignoring it and give in.
I loved the little cameos we get to see from previous books. Finishing a Lauren Blakely book always leaves me with a full heart and sore cheeks from laughing so hard and this one did exactly that. I am looking forward to the next book in the Boyfriend Material Series, Sex and Other Shiny Objects which will be Tristan and Peyton’s story, coming in January.
Thank you to Candi Kane PR and Lauren Blakely for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange of an honest review.
Lauren has done it again. This book rocks. Book 1 of a new series and I can’t wait to read more of the series. If they’re anything like this book, it will be epic. Loved Amy and Linc so much. Where can I find my own Linc? The chemistry and attraction between them was so good. You can feel it coming off the pages. You will have a smile on your face by the time you are finished. I highly recommend this story. This will be a story that you will reread many times as you do with all her books.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved Asking For a Friend!!
Another amazing read from Lauren Blakely!
One of my favorite things about her books is how she always involves characters from her other books. It’s like a visit from an old friend.
Amy and Linc’s story is adorable, witty and just a great read! Who wouldn’t love a story that revolves around books and online dating?
Amy is a junior editor and has been working hard towards a promotion at work. To be more confident in herself.
I loved her! She’s sassy, sweet and obviously smart.
Linc Silver, the new senior editor is not only hot, but so swoon worthy and charming as all hell.
The chemistry is off the charts and omg the witty and flirty banter will keep you turning the pages!
Loved! Can’t wait for the next book!
I say this every time but I absolutely love Lauren’s books. Asking For A Friend is a funny, sweet, charming love story. Amy and Linc are so perfect for each other. Let’s not forget the doggy too!
Lauren Blakely does it again. Another story with great characters with great rapport and lots of witty banter. Amy and Linc are both book editors who love words. Their nerdiness is “dishy” and fun. I enjoyed watching their relationship bloom.
4 Wicked Cute Stars!
Asking For a Friend is the perfect wicked-cute, laugh-out-loud, give you all the warm fuzzies RomCom!
When Amy decides to set up an online dating profile for her bestie in order to help her learn to improve her selling skills, she doesn’t expect to be paired up with the Clark Kent look-alike she’s been crushing on in her office. So what’s a girl to do when she’s no longer asking for a friend?
LB takes her {already awesome} witty banter skills to a new level with this one. The back-and-forth between Amy and Linc is off the charts and leaves you feeling just absolutely giddy inside. They are the kind of pairing that you are behind 100% of the way and love getting to watch their story unfold.
Lauren Blakely is a prolific author, so choosing even a handful of top favorites among her books that I’ve read is never an easy feat; yet, I have no qualms whatsoever naming her newest romantic comedy masterpiece as one of her absolute best to date! Asking for a Friend is the first novel in Blakely’s Boyfriend Material series, and while this can be read as a standalone, fans and readers of her more recent work will be tickled over the cameo appearances of past characters we’ve fallen in love with. If you happen to be new to all things Lauren Blakely, get to rectifying that on your list of New Year’s resolutions, except start two weeks early by reading this fabulously wonderful book!
Would it be too much to say that I loved everything about this book? Because I did, I really, really, REALLY did! Amy and Linc were adorable, and their conversations had that sort of witty banter that I consider a must in the rom-coms I read. With this particular sub-genre, you know that things are going to be lighthearted and that a happily-ever-after is pretty much a given, and Lauren Blakely gives readers all that and then some. Her writing is on-point, refusing to to throw in any unnecessary drama-rama and keeping the conflict short and resolved in a way that surprised me in the best way possible. The peeks at past couples was a definite treat, and the hints at the next couple in the series have me super curious, to the point that I’m wishing it were January already so we get Sex and Other Shiny Objects. Now, stop reading this review, and start reading Asking for a Friend, which gets five-plus stars.
A sexy, intelligent guy with glasses who likes to read; where do I sign up? Linc is book boyfriend gold.
Lauren Blakely does not disappoint with her newest romantic comedy, Asking For a Friend. The banter between Linc and Amy is smart, fun, and flirty. And the characters are so easy to like and relate to. I fell in love with this story from the get-go and went willingly along with it to the very end.
Ms. Blakely definitely has another hit on her hands with this one!
This was the type of book I needed right now, I wanted an entertaining romance with great characters and low angst that I could get lost in and Asking for a Friend perfectly fit that bill! While Lauren Blakely is a go-to romance author for me because of how light and fun her books are, the characters in this book might be my favorite! As a book lover, I tend to get all swoony over characters that are all about books… it makes it easier to connect and relate to them. Amy Summers was introduced in previous books (Overnight Service and Special Delivery) and I loved the little book nerd. She is quirky, outgoing, witty and her love of words is just down right perfect! There isn’t much to say about Linc other than he is the ultimate book boyfriend… seriously, a guy who doesn’t like sports and would rather curl up with a book… yes, please! The attraction and chemistry between the two was instant and the easy banter was continuous, but thanks to some office romance rules and past relationship fails they both try to ignore the attraction. Luckily the little drama that occurred was really just a hiccup and got resolved quickly which made the story more about the characters and positive feelings that their story invoked. This book really is perfect if you are in the mood for a light feel good romance! I can’t wait to read about Tristan and Peyton next!
Asking For a Friend is the whimsical kind of delight only Lauren Blakely can deliver. Once again we are in for a treat as Amy Summers (sister to Josh and Quinn from prior books) finds the man of her dreams when one Linc Silvers crosses her path. These co-workers find an easy rhythm right off the bat and the smart humor Blakely is known for is on full display as they become good friends only.
With a sweet ‘scheme’ Amy puts into motion for her bestie Peyton, soon she is flirting with a man who she wishes was Linc and eventually has the best surprise of her life as all of her worlds collide in the very best way.
I’m always in awe of how many of these friends to more kind of stories Blakely has up her sleeve as each one is unique and full of the most simple of joys. Especially as the couple in question realizes just how well they fit together. And Linc and Amy fit perfectly and it’s a swoonfest from start to finish with the right amount of sizzle as their chemistry overflows with tender emotion that makes my heart happy once more.
Although a bit shorter than Blakely’s more recent work, this book is no less enjoyable. With the requisite fabulous friends, four-legged companions and secondary characters to fill the pages of this story, I happily give Asking For a Friend a solid 5 stars!
Another one not to miss! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
If you love a good Rom-Com here is another one that you don’t want to miss! If filled with so much chemistry and laughter. I enjoyed it immensely!
This book nerd fell in love with these book nerds. Asking For a Friend is fun, flirty, and yummy. A must read for all book lovers. Linc and Amy are “better than cake.” A cake you’ll want to not just taste, but devour the entire thing!
Asking For A Friend is everything that you expect from a Lauren Blakely book! A wonderfully real and believable plot, great characters, and just the right amount of sizzle!
Linc and Amy have instant sparks upon meeting each other at work. Unfortunately, neither feels compelled to act on their attraction for their own reasons. But being a romance, we KNOW it will just keep getting harder to stay away till they just can’t take it any longer. As it continues to pile up, Linc and Amy come to the conclusion they are helpless to stop this and it was too hard to even try. I love how Lauren Blakely weaves their tale so it feels like it is real and could literally happen to anyone. The details make the characters feel human and we can relate to that. So we lap it all up with a spoon and devour that bowl to the very end! Asking For A Friend is that type of book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and whole-heartedly recommend you read this entertaining story too!
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. The rating and review are my opinion.
Linc and Amy are a delightful couple with their witty banter and sexy exchanges. Amy’s inner monologue will have you rolling down the aisle laughing out loud with her sassiness and teasing. All around another winner for Lauren Blakely and i can’t wait to read who’s next in this new series. I honestly volunteered to review an arc.
Amy is a dedicated junior editor and is focused on discovering the next best seller. When opening a position as a senior editor, she decides it’s time to receive her well-deserved promotion but is afraid of not being able to show her ability in choosing good books.. She believes she can’t sell herself and asks her brother Josh (Overnight Service) for advice and starts training her network. Problem is, a small distraction appeared in the middle of her path. A great Clark Kent distraction that’s all so good.
Linc is new at work and after a pretty bad experience getting involved with a co-worker, he wants distance from relationships. Problem is, a certain colleague is everything he wants most in a woman.
In this first book in the Boyfriend Material series, Lauren Blakely creates another super cute couple and introduces 2 more friends of Amy who will be the protagonists of the next books. Lola (Amy’s co-worker), Peyton (who just lost her fiancé) and Amy are hilarious together and very friendly, one defending and helping the other. Which eventually leads to the situation that approaches Amy and Linc.
I loved to know the craziness of publishing life and I loved Linc’s interaction with Baldwin who is for me the icing on this delicious romantic comedy.
