I was only trying to help a friend. I swear. I was legit asking for a friend who was finally ready to date again.I knew what she wanted in a man — smart, funny, ambitious, well-read (no, the sports section doesn’t count), and plays a wicked game of badminton. So I did what any good friend would do. Posted it for her. It seemed like a good idea at the time — I’d weed through the candidates, and … candidates, and bring her my top picks.
But then he responded.
Is it wrong to date the guy I screened for my bestie? Not asking for a friend.
Indulge in the BOYFRIEND MATERIAL series! Three best friends. Three outrageous proposals. Three chances to fall in love. Three brand new standalones from Lauren Blakely!

Entertaining
I have been on such a Lauren Blakely high in the last 12 months, I have lost count of how many of her books I have listened to and/or read… and Yet again, she comes in swinging with Asking For a Friend. I knew going into this that I would love it and I did. It has everything a Lauren Blakely fan would want. It’s funny, it’s different, it’s interesting and funny… Did I mention funny? This author helps me in a way. I often listen/read the darker side of romance and well that’s all well and good, sometimes I just need a light read, especially if something is happening in my personal life, so when I get into those places, I turn to Lauren’s books. She always has something fun and new up her sleeve and Asking For a Friend was just that and exactly what I needed, and I hadn’t even realized.
I absolutely loved Amy… She is everything! I loved her nerdiness, I loved her love for books and the fact that she worked so seriously as a junior editor. She is pushing herself to be more herself and more confident at her job and she slays it. She is sassy and feisty and she takes the bull by the horns, she can be aggressive with her mouth, yet shes still that sassy and sweet woman! I found her just perfect!
Linc is smart, fun, get along with everyone and has just taken the senior editor position. He works hard and loves what he does.
He and Amy get along well, the banter between these two had me smiling from ear to ear.
Amy wants to help her friend find a date, so she makes an online dating profile and but the last thing she expected was to be drawn in by the attention it was getting, but not just any attention. Linc was one of those men giving the attention to this profile she had created for her friend but the banter and connection with Linc online are just as fun and interesting as it is in the office and she finds herself in getting distracted with the profile. Linc is also trying to find a way to move from a connection he has formed with Amy, so online dating was a welcoming distraction… So he thought…
and this just turns into a crazy, hot, fun and outrageous plot that I found myself getting lost in fast. I loved everything about this. The emails between Amy and Linc were something else, and the chemistry around each other and through emails too.
It was the perfect book for me at the time and I will be going back and listening in audio for sure!
5 Stars!
This was the perfect swoon worthy book to read while I was recovering from surgery, Lauren Blakely has become my go to author, when I need to read something light and fun!
Lauren Blakley is simply a magician- she can take all the tropes and make them fresh and engaging every single time! I adored watching Linc and Amy’s friendship and relationship develop. There were so many real life book references dropped here and there in the book- so cool! Asking for a Friend is low-angst, super funny and fan-your-face hot. What a delight! I alternated between reading and listening to the audiobook, the latter of which was fantastic as all multi-cast Lauren Blakely audiobooks are. She absolutely sets the standard.
4.5 stars – but once I got into the story – 5 stars to the end!
This one took me a little longer to get into the vibe although it still has the witty banter that is standard for a Lauren Blakely book. But man – once I got into the groove – there was no stopping me to finish this story.
This is so sweet! Linc and Amy work together, and they are equally avoiding dating any said co-workers. But fate has other plans. While screening a dating app and potential suitor for her bestie – the lines start to blur. But she’s also falling for her co-worker although trying vainly not to. Linc can’t believe the fun he’s having on the new dating app, but can’t stop thinking about said co-worker! What are these two going to do?!?
This story was sweet, witty, fun, and had lots of cape power!! Life lessons included.
Really looking forward to this new series by Lauren Blakely – Book 1 starts it off just right and I CANNOT WAIT for Book 2.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I loved this book! Amy and Linc are totally made for each other. Their witty banter alone is sexy but add in their attraction for each other and the chemistry is rocking hot! Asking For a Friend is a super enjoyable read and the characters are awesome! I can’t wait for the next book in the Boyfriend Material series!
RomCom! Lauren Blakely does it like no other and she did not disappoint with Asking for a Friend.
Amy and Linc are people love stories are made for. She’s a tad bit nerdy, a whole lotta cute and an all-around sweet person. Linc is a man. But one that is kind, with a heart and a strength that is internal. You put these two people together and you have the makings of a couple you find yourself rooting for.
I found myself laughing at loud. I found myself in the midst of the character’s banter. I found myself doing what I normally do when I read a Lauren Blakely book . . . becoming lost in the words and spending a day reading. Great job again, Ms. Blakely, great job!
This book was witty, and funny , and keeps your attention. I was captivated from the beginning. When I saw I fell in love with the characters I most certainly did . Amy and Linc take you on an amazing Journey of hilarious adventures. Who knew online dating and work romances could align? Please read the tale Baldwin, Amy, Linc, Peyton, Cristian and Lola. It will be a read you cannot put down. Trust me.
Amy and Linc have wonderful chemistry and are so meant to be, even when they try to find other people they still end up with each other. I love that they are also book lovers and that touch of nerdiness I adore and relate to. They are such the perfect match and the way Sex and Other Shiney Objects is set up and I am super excited for what’s coming!
Asking For a Friend by Lauren Blakely is the first book of her new series, Boyfriend Material with cross over characters from her Always Satisfied series. Amy just wants to help her friend Peyton who is ready to get back on the horse after a bad break up with her fiance. So what does a good friend do in this day and age? Create an account on the new “Boyfriend Material” app and go through the “material” there to see who will be a good fit for her friend, who she is pretending to be on the app. What can go wrong?
Well first off a guy she meets in the app is a really good connection, for Amy herself. And to make things even more complicated the new guy at work, Linc has a great connection with her as well, but there is this “no dating coworkers” rule that friend zones them, for the moment. With banter heating up both on the app and in the office, what do you think happens?
The characters in Asking For a Friend feel real, which is something I often say for books by Lauren Blakely, but that doesn’t make it any more true. The drama was not over the top and the fun and connections were amazing. I very much enjoyed what Ms. Blakley created here and can’t wait for the rest of the series.
(I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
Asking for A Friend was such a treat to read. Lauren Blakley has written another smart, sweet, sexy and funny book.
Amy is a book lover, skirt with pockets kind of girl who works in the publishing world. Wanting to help her career along she devises a plan to help a friend get back into the dating world by putting together a dating profile and screening the potential boyfriends. Linc, the new guy at the publishing company and to New York, has seamlessly found himself loving his new job and the friends that he is making. He has his eye on Amy but only from afar since he has a no dating co-workers policy. Amy and Linc have this way about them that attracts each to the other but , in order to get his mind off Amy, he puts himself out there on a dating website hoping to find someone to have a serious relationship with.
The fun banter is irresistible and will have you reading with a smile on your face.
Asking for A Friend totally took me by surprise and I loved reading every minute if it!
Lauren Blakely delivers with fresh characters and a plot twist that makes for a fun, easy read, rom com to finish up 2019. I feel like I need to level up my review to match the creative descriptors in Asking For a Friend. I’ve got my handy thesaurus at the ready to break it down.
Amy and Linc are a dream come true. Together they’re a snappy conversational masterpiece. Both being book editors, word porn is their jam, and delivered in spades. Each conversation is laced with swift wit and dialogue that is unequivocally colorful. Amy is one of my favorite LB heroines. She’s snazzy, classy, smart, independent, and fiercely herself. She’s the girl next door, waiting for her smarty pants match to find her. Enter Clark Kent, aka Linc. The newest book editor at the publishing house, he’s everything Amy is looking for. He’s brainy, sweet, amusing, charming and handsome. Their chemistry is off the charts from the get go! These two are so cute, I could scoop them up and stash them in my pocket.
Lauren has really blown my mind this year. Every book is on point! Each character has a distinct and individual personality that is completely their own. I look forward to meeting every couple like welcoming a new group of friends into my fold. Amy and Linc are especially special and some of my favorite characters this year. I can’t wait to see what Lauren has in store for readers for 2020.
Is top of the line banter a thing? If not it should be and this book is the example to follow. So smart and sweet while laugh out loud funny and steamy. Now I need all the friends stories and soon!
Asking for a Friend is book one in this new contemporary, romantic comedy from one of my fave go-to authors. This book, in my opinion, is one of the top rom-com that I’ve read this year, no cap!
What started as a search to find the perfect man for her friend, ended with Amy falling in love with the man himself. Amy and Linc’s fun, witty, flirty banters are enough to make this girl blush, swoon, and believe the magic of love, all over again. You couldn’t help it but love these quirky, cute, smart characters to death and root for them to be together. This is another one of those story that will leave you laughing out loud, sigh in contented bliss, and feel good romance. Another great read and can’t wait for the next installment!
Asking for a Friend
By: Lauren Blakely
Narrated by: Andi Arndt, Jason Clarke, Zachary Webber, Erin Mallon
Series: Boyfriend Material, Book 1
Boyfriend Material is fast becoming my favorite Lauren Blakely series! Give me a slightly nerdy guy, and I am hooked. This story features Amy, a junior editor who is interested finding good literature. Competent yet shy, she is finding her way in her chosen profession. In walks Linc, a dead ringer for Clark Kent(and who can resist those glasses) and she is smitten. Their banter is funny and smart, and the two have an instant chemistry. Now Amy is not looking for a relationship, but she puts herself out there for her best friend, creating a profile and beginning to vet out possible boyfriends. She prefaces with “asking for a friend”. But what happens when it’s no longer for her friend? I loved this quirky, fun loving story. It’s got a little of everything, and Blakely always is able to mesh it all so well together. I laughed and loved my way through this, from thesaurus to Dax…it’s all great fun. I also love Blakely’s use of first names that I recognize as people she works with and admires. It makes the listen that more intimate and enjoyable.
Always knows for her perfect picks of voices, Blakely chooses Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke to voice this book. They are consummate experts and are able to give this book everything. I loved their performances and the way they compliment each other in the dual narration. Add in cameos by Zachary Webber(loved his character) and Erin Mallon, and it’s an all star event surely not to be missed.

Lauren Blakely is back with a brand new series called Boyfriend Material. Asking For a Friend is the first book, and is an excellent start to this new series. It’s a perfect feel good rom com with very little drama and angst and I was here for it!
This book is about Amy, who we’ve actually seen in the Always Satisfied series. She’s Quinn’s sister from Special Delivery, and also Josh’s sister from Overnight Service. But, this is still a standalone. Amy is basically the quintessential book worm. She loves reading, and editing books. She also has a weird yet hilarious relationship with the thesaurus! She’s also kind, sweet, thoughtful and loyal. Her best friend, Peyton, has just had a terrible breakup with her fiancé, and is finally ready to get back out into the dating world, but she can be a little awkward. So, Amy takes it upon herself to set up a profile for Peyton on a new Boyfriend Material app, and will go through the responses to find the right guy for Peyton. What she doesn’t expect is to find someone she really connects with herself.
At the same time, Amy works at a publishing house as an editor. The book starts with a new coworker, Linc, showing up, who she starts to develop a new, adorable relationship filled with great banter, and a ton of book references! However, because of a workplace rule, they shouldn’t date each other, unless they disclose this relationship to HR. So, they really develop an awesome friendship that maybe can turn to something more.
I won’t spoil anything but say that I loved all the banter between Amy and Linc and Amy and the guy on the app. It felt like a grown up relationship with no drama and angst and it was such a welcome surprise! Peyton’s book is next and I cannot wait to get my hands on that one! If you’re looking for a light, feel good rom com, with little drama and angst, this is the book for you!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another Lauren book that I enjoyed immensely. Asking for a Friend was such a marvelous read. Amy and Linc were great characters. Each had an awesome personality. I liked how they were with their friends, family, and co-workers. Just two down-to-earth cool people. But together they were magic. Their banter and interactions were so fun, sweet, and fire. Even with the twist it was still awesome. That intense attraction and how easily they mesh made for a great couple and story. I couldn’t get enough of them. I loved this story and this new world of Lauren’s. I can’t wait for the next in the series.
This is the 4th standalone book in the Boyfriend Material series that tells the story of Linc and Amy in today’s online dating world. And let me say online dating keeps you on your toes! This book kept me on my toes with all the quick wit and feisty banter. I loved Linc, but then again, I love all of Blakely’s modern men — they’re kind, sweet, sexy — the full package as one would say! 😉 Another slow burn, crazy chemistry, steamy and sassy contemporary read — you honestly can’t go wrong with this author. A solid 4.5 star read for me!
Amy is a girl after my own heart, not only knows “A league of their own” (best baseball movie ever!) and loves P!nk, shes all about desserts! Yes girl, gotta have those deserts. A secret?…. sometimes I left my kids eat desert before dinner. Lol!!
…
**”Dessert is best every day. Dessert must be a daily practice, or else you become bitter, sad, lonely, and angry.”
Not only that, she’s sweet, competitive and teaches hula hooping! She’s a great friend.
And Linc… who doesn’t love a Clark lent look alike?? I know I do!! He sexy, funny and a great person. Even though people call him Superman, he doesn’t have a “hero” complex. Lol!
And Baldwin… best gay friend ever! Love him!
Live the banter between Amy and Linc. Their chemistry is off the charts right off the bat. They’re witty and are great together. Another great hit from Blakely!
Asking for a Friend is the first book in the Boyfriend Material series by one of my all-time favorite authors, Lauren Blakely. It might be a new series but in true Lauren fashion…there are connections! Amy Summers. A Summers! And there was a tease to her story in Overnight Service. And it’s here! So exciting!
Amy is a Junior Editor who wants that promotion. The one just announced. The one she has been waiting for. The one she deserves. She is tired of reading the bottom of the barrel books. She knows she can kick ass when it comes to words. Her favorite book is a thesaurus after-all. She just has to keep her head in the game. To sell herself. To stay away from distractions. Like the one who just walked into her office. The one who looks like Clark Kent. The one who knows how to get to the leftover cake in the break room before anyone else. And you know how important cake is to a girl. She was screwed.
Linc is new to New York. He flew across the country for a fresh start. And his number one rule: No Office Romances. He’s been there and done that and he didn’t even get a t-shirt. So when he meets Amy on his first day at his new job he knows she is trouble. She is too funny, too smart, and too beautiful and that’s exactly why he can’t want her. So, what is a guy to do? Oh…get online and find another woman! Yep. And it doesn’t take long until he finds one to banter with. One to check all his boxes and he doesn’t even know what she looks like. Is he still thinking about Amy? Of course he is!
These two!! I adore them. Two banter-loving sexy nerds who know books are always better than the movie. Two sexy singles who weren’t looking for their happily ever after. Two cartoon-loving people who just want to find Mexican food in New York. But for real, Amy is smart, sassy, and badassy and I might just have a girl crush on her. She even teaches Hulu Hoop! I have done the classes and hoop on the daily. And Linc is swoony, smart, and funny. Together, their banter is full of flirt, fun, and bookish!
Quotes:
Though I bet he’d be good in the sack. Brainy guys often are.
Amy Summers is just so damn sexy-cute in all the ways that count, and she’s nearly irresistible.
She tastes like candy and sex. Like desire and need. And I need more.
