Three seemingly normal brothers. One surprising supernatural secret. Life is good in the town of Summerset for the McKenzie brothers. Handsome, hard workers who know how to have a good time. But as the brothers stand on the brink of adulthood, family skeletons are coming out of the closet—complete with fangs, fur and a deadly bite. When a ruthless gang threatens the town they call home, the boys … ruthless gang threatens the town they call home, the boys will meet their own primal natures for the first time. And everything they’ve ever known will change.
It’s hard to outrun the past. Harder still when the darkness is within you.

ASHES – BURNING MOON Novella

This is a great introduction to the Mckenzies. Their personalities are really well fleshed out in this prequel. Seeing their recent history as well as hints at their origins really helps set the stage for the rest of the series.
ASHES is the second book in the Burning Moon series, a prequel that the author says is best read after the first book. Personally, I think it could be read either first or second.
I loved this short story explaining how Liam, Seth, and Cole discovered their werewolves and the effect it had on their lives. Though a short story, there was no feeling of anything being rushed or left out. Instead there is plenty of suspense, a bit of romance, and just enough questions left to make me want the next book to come sooner rather than later.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

The beginning of it all, while book 4, this story gives you a look into how the McKenzie brothers first found out they were shifters. This series has become one of my favorites. I love her writing style as well as the characters she has created for her world. Whether you enjoy paranormal or haven’t jumped in just yet, her books are must reads!
This is a prequel to a paranormal series, even though this is not the first book in the Burning Moon series, I’m really pleased I read it before Spark which is the official first book. This preempted questions that would be asked in the latter books without. You can read the other books first but this just adds clarity
Ashes gives a back story to the three main characters of this series and found it helpful/enlightening. It also gives a better character background, what they’re like how they relate to one another and to an extent why they are they way they are.
An interesting easy to read, absorbing book that inspired me to want to read more of the main characters’ story.
Even though this is a paranormal book its not your run of the mill as far I’m concerned and this adds a little more interest to the series. A little layer of mystery that is wanting to be uncovered. Not everything is as it may first seem.
A mysterious past, an unknown enemy and a future unforeseen…
Wow…This was a wonderful introduction to the New Burning Moon series. From the beginning I found myself quickly getting wrapped up in Liam, Seth and Cole’s world. Their tale was so rich that I didn’t notice it was a short story. It’s well written with lots of suspense and surprises lurking around every corner. Ashes definitely grabbed my attention and left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the release of Spark.
Burning Moon Series:
Ashes, Prequel – One of my favorite authors, which pretty much guaranteed a well written, interesting introduction to her new series Burning Moon. The storylines are set in motion; the characters are introduced with future growth; and the emotions run pretty freely with all the events that have occurred. There’s intrigue and plenty of suspense. There is violence, but not graphic or gory. Nightmares led to mysteries that the trio of teenaged brothers will have to solve in order to live their lives. 4*
Spark #1 – This story starts a year after Ashes ends. The brothers are living and working in Flagstaff, AZ. Ms. Close didn’t fail to please with Spark. After reading Ashes, which sets the history and foundation for the brothers, the storylines continue to weave into a fast paced, intriguing and suspense filled novel that is difficult to put down. The brothers keep growing as they learn and adapt to their nature. The new characters added in Spark are also interesting and believable, and add to the depth of the story. The romance is filled with sexual tension, but they take time to grow into their relationship, which I always appreciate clean stories and females with morals. The author always entertains, adds unexpected twists and is original making even the old worn themes new and interesting. I contacted the author to review her books and never have been disappointed with her work. 5*
Burning Moon Series end.
Vampire Files Trilogy:
Red Night #1 – A well written, humorous, romantic suspense filled with interesting characters, both funny and menacing. The book starts a little slow, but kicks into gear and is hard to put down. There’s a twist or two adding to the excitement and the humor never leaves the pages. I laughed out loud numerous times, the suspense and intrigue are great. The reactions of the female character are realistic and I appreciate her thoughts and morals. Hooked and looking forward to reading Red Moon, the second book. For those who care, there’s sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Moon #2 – Another well written, humorous, romantic, fast paced, suspense filled with interesting characters and a twisting plot. As with Red Moon, the excitement never stops. The female character is still realistic and keeps her head and morals. I look forward to reading more of this series. If you love Jim Butcher and Charlaine Harris, you will love RK Close! For those who care, there’s sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Dream #3 – Another well written addition to the series. Fast paced and suspense filled, with romance for several characters, RD introduces more interesting characters to round out the series. Plenty of drama, confusion and mishaps, while the female character gathers her resources and receives support in her endeavors from surprising sources. For those who care, there’s no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
