This is a full length NOVEL set between Windburn and Rootbound. However, to avoid spoilers, the author highly recommends you read it after reading Rootbound. From the USA Today Bestselling series comes a glimpse into the life and mind of a character surrounded in mystery . . .My name is Ash, and I am an Elemental. As an Ender, it is my place to protect the royal family at all costs. Despite being … the royal family at all costs. Despite being the best Ender our world has ever beheld, I have failed time and again as the personal sacrifices continue to mount.
Lark has been banished to the desert by her father who is blind to the manipulation he has again fallen prey to. To bring about justice, I must seek out and destroy the one who intentionally wields her powers to bring pain to my people.
Cassava’s death will finally free us from the dark cloud her reign of terror has surrounded us in. This is what I believe to be true and I will seek her out with only one intended outcome.
The reality, however, is much more complicated than my beliefs.
When lies turn to truths, and enemies to allies, can I still find my way back to who I once was? Uncertainty makes me hesitant, but I can not give up.
For justice. For Lark.
No matter the sacrifice.

Interesting Addition to the Elementals Series
I have mixed feelings about this addition to the series. I enjoyed reading from Ash’s perspective, and absolutely loved Norm’s character. I feel like it complicated the big picture though, but after finishing it, I have realized I think that was Shannon’s intention all along. She wants you to second-guess what’s real, what’s imaginary, as well as who’s “good” and who’s “bad”; although no one in Shannon’s worlds are inherently always good OR bad. Everything is in shades of grey which complicates things. Ash suddenly has new abilities and power that he never had before, making you wonder where or who it’s come from.
Like many of her series, this one is complicated and you must pay attention to the little details to truly understand how and why the journey unfolds. I applaud her for never taking the easy road, and letting the characters take on their own personalities and dimensions that other authors shy away from. It might not appeal to everyone, but I can understand why she’s telling this story the way she is. Though there are gut-wrenching periods, I think we’ll make it out ok in the end.

Ash: The Elemental Series #6
Ash tries to right the wrong of Lark’s banishment, first with words then deed! Raven steps in & thwarts him using spirit to bend minds against him. Griffin managed to aid him in the dungeon so he doesn’t lose his mind then Peta arrives just in time to save him physically! They escape the Rim to search out & end Cassava, he’s convinced she survived. An avalanche causes chaos & Peta is captured!
With his new Yeti friend, Norm, he sets out to locate them. He knows Lark wouldn’t survive without Peta once her banishment is over. On arrival in Ireland he’s spoken to, much like Lark was. He’s confused by it as the voices seem to claim to be the entire Earth. But it isn’t Mother Goddess talking. In Romania he butts heads with Raven again but he doesn’t use spirit on him?! They separate & go back to the Himalayas to where Raven swore his Mother & Peta were. Things are revealed that are but churning!! Now Ash is lost.
A sometimes frustrating but exhilarating read!!

Oh I loved Ash’s POV! Great novella! It was an amazing read to get insight of his story! It gives us more understanding of full story what happened in between!
Audiobook & ebook review: I have liked Ash from the first moment he was introduced in the Elemental series. Like many in love he reacted when he should have thought things out a little more. His lack of foresight leads him on an unintended adventure filled with lies, half truths, and royal machinations. The story is fabulous. The new character Norm was a a great humorous addition. The narrator did a nice job, but I wish she would have stuck with Ms. Fortgang…Ash just doesn’t sound like Ash in the previous stories.
