The Godkiller will rise.Despite his recent victories, Nate Temple’s problems are only just beginning. Although it had been necessary, killing the most infamous of the Norse gods has consequences, and no one knows petty vengeance like the Aesir. Especially with Odin’s legendary spear mysteriously missing. But Nate has more important things to worry about than a pantheon of angry gods.Because the … of angry gods.
Because the God of Mischief has been freed from his imprisonment, and so has his monstrosity of a son—a creature prophesied to play a major role in Ragnarok. With Loki’s masterful abilities at illusion and deception, any of Nate’s acquaintances could be Loki in disguise, so he’s forced to play things close to the chest, retreating away from those he trusts the most.
But with gangs of expert assassins relentlessly hunting Nate for the largest contract fee ever known, the police and FBI starting to take a closer look at Nate Temple and his alleged crimes, his best friend’s kids born with bizarre abilities, and his new Horsemen desperately needing their leader to begin training them for the Omega War…
Now is a terrible time to be alone.
And an even worse time for his people to be without their leader.
Especially when Nate knows his old enemies were actually just the henchmen and that the real masters are still lurking in the shadows—likely even posing as his allies.
The blades of betrayal strike swifter than the first kiss of new love, and the fate of the world is riding on one man’s shoulders…
The Catalyst walks the world.
And no one seems to know exactly what that really means. Except that it’s going to change the future of existence for everyone.
For better or for worse.
Because Nate Temple has changed the rules—the most hated, feared, and respected beings in human history are no longer safe in St. Louis.
Even gods can die…

Usually, I love Shayne’s books. They were always exciting, full of action and they told a consistent tale that I was always anxious to read more about.
However, this book doesn’t do that. For the first time since I started reading Mr. Silvers’s books, I was lost and confused throughout the book. The storyline kept shifting from one crisis to another, with very little seeming to be solved, or, if solved, solved quickly and with very little satisfaction.
I’m not quite sure what happened with this one. I don’t know if he’s burned out on Nate and just ready to take a step back, or if he has some massive plan in mind that got a little lost in the prepping of it. But something definitely went wrong, and it translated itself to this book.
Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m sorry I read it. Not at all. I’m glad I read it, and I’m sure I’ll be even more glad when Nate returns in 2020. Right this moment I may be confused, and I may not like where we were left, but I trust Shayne to get it together and bring us back on track when the next book comes out. Until then, I’m looking forward to the new series. Perhaps we all need a break from Nate.
Sorry, folks. Couldn’t do that better than 3-3.5 stars this time. But I do have faith in Shayne Silvers so this will have to do for now and I’ll just have to be patient for the next one.
I received this book as an ARC and give this review of my own volition and in my own words, as always.
More Riddles
Nate gets to deal with more Gods, it seems like he’s going from Pantheon to another. There are “Easter eggs” through out the book, hints at who or what Nate really is, too bad Nate keeps missing those. Nate is still a screw up though and you want to kick his but, especially with Callie.
One of the things I love most about the Templeverse books, is the way Nate relates to each of his team. He has a special relationship with each one and would die for all of them. And they too would lay down their lives for Nate. These are stories of love and extended family that warms and breaks your heart through the series. In this book it is the relationship between Carl and Nate that touched me most. Definitely a winner, Master Silvers!
Excellent as usual…what a wild mental and magical journey…Just loved it! the characters are awesome, glad to see Carl’s back on the scene! Just gotta love Carl what a hoot!
This book started a little slow for me but hold on to your hats because once it gets going you’re in for the ride of your life!! I absolutely loved this book, Nate is Nate, no excuses just is what he is and I love him for it! Lots of whoppers in this one that really get the wheels turning!! So many questions left to answer but a few are closer than ever! I enjoyed team Temple this book, well who am I kidding I love them all, but the tears of laughter and joy I experienced reading Ascension will not be forgotten! Add a little Indiana Jones to this mystery and you’ve got one hell of a ride! Can’t wait for more!!!
There are some great scenes in here. Nate, Alucard, and War running from witches in a barely functioning food truck. Gunnar’s baby wolves, Calvin and Makayla, running off wherever they aren’t supposed to go, turning into mist wolves, and generally displaying powers they shouldn’t even have. Nate threatening the wizards of the Academy. Nate launching a new waterfall in the land of the Elders.
For most of the book, Nate is dealing with the Norse gods, trying to find Fenrir, the wolf who will start Ragnarök along with Fenrir’s father, Loki, and the other members of Nate’s team. They are almost but not quite done with that job when Nate is suddenly wrenched out of that situation and thrust into a new thing entirely.
Nate Temple rarely seems to finish up a book with all his problems solved, but this is the first one I can remember that ends on an actual (almost literal) cliffhanger.
This book is more about the characters this time. The snark and fun is still there, along with the usual suspects.
I read it in two days, getting absolutely nothing else done.
Well worth the time.
Master Silvers deals another enjoyable bout of mental whiplash with Ascension. Answers to the questions you were afraid to ask, which leads to even more questions. Get your favorite drinks and snacks, buckle up tight and prepare for on helluva ride!
Shayne Silvers brings back two of my favorite characters in this latest TempleVerse Book!! Honestly, I do not know anyone who has tried it who has not loved it!! What happens when you try to capture someone?? Just Capture??? All hell breaks loose!!! Laugh out loud funny at parts and like a freight train, it moves quickly. The pace is always quick on a Silvers novel, but this ride was too quick. Now I need to wait for the next in the series!!! Darn you Shayne Silvers!!
Another great book in the series. Never know where it’ll go
What’s that? SQUIRRELL!!!
Houdini has got nothing on Nate Temple! In this epically wild ride, Nate has so many misdirections up in the air, he may just forget which lies he told to who. What he will find out very quickly, however, is that his Horsemen don’t take kindly to secrets and lies and that he may be irreparably harming some of those relationships, all while trying to do his best to keep everyone and the world itself safe from Ragnarok. This one is filled with wolves chasing squirrels, Glampires, pups with attitude, hot pink loving lizards and the god of Mischief himself. Let’s hope Nate’s machinations don’t leave him hanging in the wind…
Warning: contents within this new book from the Wordsmith will have you: laughing, cursing, endangering your reading device with beverages, startling household pets with sudden outbursts, and denying the 4th dimension and its summons to sleep for tomorrow’s indentured servitude.
He created a <#$%^&*> supernatural heist movie! And it is an absolute riot.
You get the signature roller coaster, with all of its highs and lows, as Nate & crew have further dealings with Asgard, fallout from Knightmare. The story kept me gripped to my device, laughing and cursing aloud to myself. Well worth your time.
I’ve been reading this author almost since the very beginning. As such, it’s really hard to say something I haven’t said before, but I’ll certainly try. I’m always amazed at how each book is just so good, I can’t help but keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. And there are so many threads from other books that the author pulls together in each book, I don’t know how he remembers and can do all that. No matter. We the readers get the benefit from the devious and clever mind of this author. Nate Temple isn’t a great guy, but he is a good guy trying to be a savior to everyone in his life. This book has all the trademarks in the previous books: great writing, intense action, wonderful characters, and overall a rip-roaring good time. Try him, you’ll like him. Highly recommend!
