“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to Craig Johnson’s lean and leathery mysteries.” —The New York Times Book ReviewThe eighth Longmire novel from the New York Times bestselling author Land of WolvesEmbarking on his eighth adventure, Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire doesn’t have time for cowboys and criminals. His daughter, Cady, is getting … for cowboys and criminals. His daughter, Cady, is getting married in two weeks, and the wedding locale arrangements have just gone up in smoke signals. Fearing Cady’s wrath, Walt and his old friend Henry Standing Bear set out for the Cheyenne Reservation to find a new site for the nuptials. But their expedition ends in horror as they witness a young Crow woman plummeting from Painted Warrior’s majestic cliffs. Is it a suicide, or something more sinister? It’s not Walt’s turf, but he’s coerced into the investigation by Lolo Long, the beautiful new tribal police chief.

I LOVE this series!!! I really enjoy the small time crime cases. This one introduced several new characters that really added to the story. I especially like the character “Charles”, he reminded me so much of the Indian tribal officer on the show Longmire. I really love the friendship between Walt and Henry, they’re hilarious sometimes. Most of all, I LOVED this epilogue (between Walt and Cady) – brought tears to my eyes!!!
Good book! Full of action. Kept my interest.
Had to keep reading it. Couldn’t put it down.
I have loved every book Craig Johnson has written. I read all the Longmire books in the order they were written. I hope he writes more.
Rich regional details and history. Excellent character development.
Longmire is a favorite character
Craig Johnson’s Longmire stories are unique. He weaves humor, mystery and action into a tapestry of modern Indian culture. This one is another winner.
Great author, wonderful series.
Very good book. I read everything Longmier.
Great western writing
Let me just say that I “dig” Sheriff Walt Longmire and how he deals with people to get his job done. I like the tv series, too. I like the character of Henry Standing Bear, as well. I like some of the stories more than others, of course, but, I’m a fan!
It was an enjoyable book with lots of activity and a great cast of characters. There is lots of action and multiple story lines, always interspersed with humor. I found a continuing woes of Longmire caused by the Rezdawg truck annoying and too much time spent on a non-essential storyline which felt like filler to achieve a page count
Great read. Craig Johnson never disappoints!
Learned a lot about Cheyenne culture
Hard to read but worth it
I love this author. I’ve truly enjoyed his books and want to read more. Great characters, great mysteries, great writing.
Great story with satisfying ending
Love the series
This is he eighth book in the Walt Longmire series. The first 11 books are outstanding. Great setting (Wyoming), great characters, great stories told with great writing. I would suggest reading them in order.
After the eleventh book you may keep reading because you love the characters but I think the more recent books have been a little disappointing by comparison with the early ones.
On a side note, the Netflix TV series Longmire was also excellent (though Lou Diamond Phillips did not remotely match my image of Henry Standing Bear).
Love the dialogue between characters – clever and often witty.
