Emma came to Valor Lake to escape. She didn’t expect to stumble upon an ancient secret… sees that man later in a bar. A muscular, oddly intriguing person, who offers to take her fishing.
Arthur, meanwhile, knows he’s down on his luck. But there’s a new woman in town, someone who hasn’t had the opportunity yet to get to know the locals. Arthur intends to help her. For completely altruistic reasons, of course. He can take her to his favorite spot and teach her the ways of nature.
Nature sometimes has a habit of biting back, however…

I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout. My review is voluntary. This was a good start to what promises to be another interesting series by Lisa Daniels. Emma touched my heart, as soon as I started reading her history I just kept thinking ‘dang, me too’ and I was right there with her. Arthur was sweet but sort of clueless from the start; couldn’t help but like him. And his family again reminded me of mine and my life. It was a good book and I look forward to reading more about the Bears of Valor Lake.
Emma has run away from a miserable life. She doesn’t know the town she has chosen is a bear shifter reserve. Arthur seems like a simple kind of guy with a lot of compassion. The book is fairly short and I think I would have liked it more if there was more depth to some of the characters. It is a pleasant read for an afternoon and has all the elements you would expect from a shifter story.
