Nominated for a Minnesota Book award. Art Hound is the 16th title in the award winning Dev Haskell series. Private Investigator Dev Haskell makes the mistake of having a compassionate side when he attempts to help out starving artist and sometime acquaintance Demarcus Cantrell for ‘just’ a couple of days after his girlfriend has thrown him out. In short order Dev’s home is overflowing with ugly … overflowing with ugly paintings, boxes of books, tubes of paint, cans of turpentine, rolls of canvas, no beer left in the fridge…and Dev begins to see things from the girlfriends point of view. Add to that the sudden appearance of disgruntled Farrell Finley, subject of Dev’s ongoing investigation and things start to get more than a little crazy. Demarcus suddenly disappears, there’s a kidnapping and things suddenly go from bad to downright terrible with a cast of international criminals and an investigation that turns out to be not all it’s cracked up to be. Art Hound Dev Haskell’s latest attempt at culture! Fans of Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey and Laurence Shames love it!

I like this series and recommend it.
The Dev Haskell series are fun, easy reads. This was my first Dev Haskell book and I am now working my way back through the series because I enjoyed it so much. This story contains murders, kidnapping, art forgery, and impersonation, it is told in a way that highlights the comical side of life. His desire to help others always brings him a load of trouble. He helps a friend who has outlived his welcome at his girlfriend’s house. Half Keystone Cops and half Dudley Do-Right, this story is like a fun ride.
I enjoy reading this author’s books. They are always entertaining
Dev Haskell is a different style of P.I. to say the least. He is certainly not the two-fisted type in the genre of Mike Hammer. You know that you are in for a different detective tale when Dev gets beat up in the opening sequence by a guy whom Dev is trailing for his client, the guy’s wife. Dev is also a lady’s man, but not with the sophistication of James Bond, and he is not above lying to his girl friend du jour if he thinks that will help him get the woman in bed. Just when the reader thinks that Dev is a lovable- loser type, he shows his true colors in the final climatic showdown with another chamelion-like lovable loser. Despite his many unattractive traits, youu can’t help liking Dev even though he shocks you in the end by demonstrating the tpe of hroic action you have waited from the beginning for him to show. It was worth reading this quirky detective tale just to get to the end.
I love Faricy’s books funny and outrageous characters
Love this book
We’ve all had that one “friend” who just needed a place to stay for a few days …. and weeks later you are kicking yourself for ever letting him and his junk into the house. Great story. Is the “junk” really valuable? All is not what it seems.
I love all the Dev Haskell series and this one is no exception.
Dev always is good. No matter what he does he comes out on top.
Good read, funny and interesting at the same time
Mike is always fun to read
Dev and Morton offer a entertaining read . I can’t wait for their next adventure!
Both of these short stories were interesting. Both were tragic in ending if you read between the lines.
Always funny
I enjoyed it quite a bit. No thoughts being provoked necessarily, but it was fun
