Once upon a time she became mine.Mine to keep. She was a healer. He was a serial killer. She helped people. He destroyed them. She was a beautiful angel. He was a vicious monster. She wanted to run away.He captured her instead. She promised to never surrender. He guaranteed that she would. Two lives, the hunter and the prey, forever entwined together. In this battle of wills there would be no winner.
This is one I have been really looking forward to for quite a while, from the very first encounter I have been fascinated with Arson and just how he ticks and the small teasers we have been given from previous books in this series have only whetted my appetite more.
Impression wise Arson for me is definitely one of the worst serial killers we have been introduced too to-date.
He had an almost cold, empty blankness to him not really surprising considering his background and what we later learn he has had to endure growing up.
It is actually surprising he has any conscience or sense of morality considering his horrific past.
“I know Arson is not a good man and never will be, yet he is the bad man who protects me from the likes of Marcello, Pastor and their friends.”
This was almost a beauty and the beast scenario, but one where there is no actual redemption or saving more a rescue through Callista’s acceptance of the whole, in turn, giving Arson something he has unknowingly craved all his life, someone who is categorically just his heart and soul and acknowledges the good and bad equally, she manages to quiet the noise and soothes his inner beast somewhat.
“She is the light in my darkness, the only thing brightening up my world with her smile alone. She is the gasoline to my fire, the angel to my demon reigning inside me and the calm during my life that is nothing but an endless storm.”
As this story progresses we get to witness a much warmer Arson start to emerge: well at least in regards to his beautiful captive to all else he is still a cold merciless killer.
So if Callista’s story was painful and sad Arsons was much worse and my heart literally broke in two with what child Arson/Artem has had to endure.
Action wise this was definitely more of a slow-burn but when these two finally do connect it was heated and the chemistry output off the charts, definitely worth the wait.
This is one of my favourites to date of this series and I absolutely adored every twisted and dark moment I really didn’t want it to end.
Also, can I just say that epilogue was pure magic I adored it and it was the icing for me, seriously is was fantastic.
I bloody devoured this one reading in one sitting and highly recommend this fascinating series especially if you like something a tad different.
This author just manages to deliver every single time and I highly recommend this series.
Warning before I go this story has some series triggers in regards to the childhoods of both Calista and Arson (mostly Arson) which we get to experience in a series of flashbacks which is the usual style for this author), If you have read this author before you will know what I mean and what to expect.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Arson’s Captive

Wow what an intense and dark read I had. It definitely had it’s very dark moments but than it had love a love so deep that you can not even find the words to describe it. I so enjoyed reading Arson and Callista story they show that from fire and ashes love can be found for a dark and broken soul.
Loved it! This story takes dark and twisted to a whole new level. The flames of passion and possession are the top of the fiery iceberg when it comes to Arson and his captive. The story keeps you guessing, then offers a plot twist but it never turns out how you think it will. Amazingly written. Great read.
Arson is a serial killer and he meets Callista when she is on the run. He decides to keep her as his captive and obsession. Callista has been through so much and she refuses to let anyone keep her down. This is a dark, gritty and twisted story with two characters you may not like at first. Their story is just too interesting to stop reading and pulls you right into all the craziness.
“What a beautiful lie. We don’t try to protect those we love. We try to protect ourselves from the inevitable pain”
Oh, Arson you blind fool.
Arson is doing what he does best, causing chaos. When what suddenly appears? An angel, and Arson, well, being Arson isn’t about to turn his back on such a beautiful gift.
“Once upon a time, an angel fell to hell where a devil found her”
Callista has lived her own version of hell on earth. Even when she was ensconced within “heavens” gates she was not safe from the evils of man. She learned over time how to keep the darkness at bay. Careful to pick her battles.
A bit immature,
A tad stubborn
But filled with all kinds of fire.
Arson’s character has always seemed just a touch out of reach. Out of all the protege, IMO, his darkness was different. Not that they all aren’t a bit on the scary as he ll side. Arson lacked any form of empathy it seemed and he was angrier. I knew his story would be special and Mason did not disappoint.
This was a whole new side to Arson and I liked it. Yeah in previous episodes we were given brief glimpses of the man inside the monster but here – we see the real boy, the one who was betrayed.
Most of the gang and all of the horsemen make cameos in this episode. (*squeals with happiness)
You may want to strap in tight for this ride – because the turn?
Sooooo did not see that one coming.
I do still have a couple of questions that were not answered (* clears throat)
Another fiery addition to the series that you will not want to miss
Disappointing book This is not a romance. It is violent.
5 SIZZLING ARSON STARS!! I want to be Arson’s captive….I fell in love with this character. Arson and Chloe story is dark and hits on tough subjects, but so worth the read. My heart was pulled in every direction, with lots of twists and turns through this book. V.F. Mason has quickly become one of my favorite authors with her phenomenal writing skills…Give me more. If you love dark….download this book.
Boy talk about sick and twisted. This story is told in dual pov and goes back and forth in time so you really get the whole story and of how things came to be. Dark, twisted, so steamy, raw, intense and will keep you glued to the pages. I love Arson and Chloe. I am addicted to Vaida’s writing.
VF Mason is known for telling these dark twisted tales and Arson’s Captive is no exception. This dark read is told in both the past and present day, giving us a good understanding of both our main characters and what they’ve gone through in their life. This novel was graphic, raw and gritty, dealing with difficult subject matters and sensitive readers should be mindful of triggers.
The sinister story was fast paced with twists and turns around every corner and will evoke intense emotions from you as you are taken on an intense emotional roller-coaster ride with Arson and Callista. With complex developed characters, a well-crafted, twisted story line and an awesome epilogue this page-turner was a fantastic read and I would recommend it to all lovers of dark romance.
5 flaming hot stars!!
This is a stand alone book from V. F. Mason’s serial killer series but if you are wise you’re hold read them all!! I am super obsessed with all the serial killers!!
Arson has been on my mind since I started this serial killer journey. He always piqued my interest. Now I know why. He is such a tough nut to crack but under it all is exactly what I thought. I am in love!! I read a few reviews and people didn’t seem to care for Chloe but, trust and believe, I am a fan of Chloe!! The pain and hardship these two together faced they are extraordinary!! And together scorching!!
I am really late with my review, a lot happened but what I loved about that was I was able to read multiple chapters a day. In doing that the story sank in and weighed on my mind more. It seemed to enhance the story that much more. Either way this was an amazing book.
Every time I read one of her serial killer books I get pumped. There is so much wrapped up in each of these books. Back stories, current stories, sexy time, love, hate and so much more. I could see this as a Netflix series we love to binge. Please make this happen!!
You get stories and characters from other books and it is so exciting. I am invested in all of these guys. Keep writing these kick ass books!! This is a MUST read!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
I was so impatient for Arson’s book and I hadn’t been disappointed by his story.
I don’t know where the author find all her ideas, but this book is deliciously dark and I love it.
Arson was kind of hard to understand for me in the other books, because I was wondering how someone could have became so dark and when I was finally able to know his story, I totally understood why he is who he is now. Mu heart broke for Arson multiples times.
Callista is a beautiful person, her soul is pure after all the things she had been through, she left hell, to go back to hell, and when she try to escape this hell, it’s too go back to another, but at least this one, is not as bad as she thought it would be.
Callista and Arson are definitely my favorite couple and book. 2 Broken souls who found each other.
This book was everything I wanted and needed it to be and more!!!!! I have loved Arson ever since he made an appearance in Lachlan’s book. I was so scared of disappointment The waiting was totally worth it. I also loved Callista. She was exactly what Arson’s heart needed to heal. She was strong enough to deal with his crazy, while also soft enough to heal it. I loved them together so much!!
I have been intrigued by the blue haired man and his love of fire.
So I was thrilled to finally get Arson’s story.
And what a story it is!
Arson is a dark uncompromising man.
He has no mercy for his enemies.
He has a line you better not cross.
If you do well look out you are definitely on his radar.
Arson’s form of doling out justice is neither swift nor painless.
It is however thorough, precise and done with calmness.
Callista is definitely one strong young lady.
She is a fighter.
With a determined will and mind.
Callista’s life hasn’t been easy.
But when she crosses paths with Arson her life is about to become that much more twisted.
Ms. Mason writes stories with antiheroes like no one else.
And Arson is no exception.
Along the way she’ll have you falling in love with this devil of a man.
You will be praying for him and hoping the best for him.
But that’s not before cursing and wanting to strangle him.
This book had me enthralled and gripped from the start.
Once I started Arson’s story I could not put it down.
Yeah no sleep for me that day.
I love how the author blends in the dark but never fully closes the door for some light.
How she gives a very flawed very dangerous Arson some characteristics and some kind of magic that the reader can’t help but embrace him.
He stole a piece of my heart and part of my soul.
Arson’s journey is hard fought and painful.
Even though this is his full story I still hope to see more of him in the future.
I loved Arson’s book! It took unexpected twists and turns and I love the cameos of previous characters! Highly recommended for sure!
I received and a ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was so excited for Arson’s story and it didn’t disappoint!! Callista and Arson are hot, hot , hot!!! This story sucked me in from the beginning. As per usual this author sucks you in to such an authentic one of a kind story!! Amazing read.
She’s an angel who’s wings are forever clipped. He’s a hunter constantly looking for his next victim.
Her attempt to escape the future promised, results in her finding him.
He can’t resist in claiming her, but until she can behave his captive she shall be!
So much darkness, so much delicious torture and punishment. Death hangs in the air.
His every thought is connected to his end game. His every action is a step closer until she becomes more than she should.
I loved watching him flick the switch between his personalities. I just wish there had been more payback on those who wronged him.
Callista is a victim of circumstances throughout this book, and I understood her whilst feeling sorry for her at the same time. Her choices were born from all that she experienced.
They share the same world yet continue to live it. It’s both heartbreaking yet inevitable.
The light will constantly fight, but the darkness with never fully disappear.
I confess, I really love VF Mason’s psychos…LOL
We’ve been waiting awhile for Arson’s story and it was sooooo worth the wait.
These two broken souls were fated to be together, their broken pieces fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, both needed to make a whole.
Their story is long, but there is so much baggage to carry, for both Arson and Callista, that without telling the complete story was to do them both an injustice.
This may be tough for some readers if your triggers include crimes against children, ahhh, but revenge is sweet.
I highly recommend if you have not ventured into VF Mason’s dark romance world, that you rectify that immediately!
I was so excited to get Arson’s book and it was amazing! This book was dark and twisted with great characters. I felt every emotion while I read this story and it had me guessing until the end with all of the twists and turns. I would highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more from VF Mason in the future.
This time we get to read about Arson’s story and it is not a pretty one. It is heartbreaking, dark and gritty. I just wanted to hug that little boy and the man.
Arson’s captive is Callista. Her story is also full of heartbreak, but for some reason I couldn’t really connect with her. She annoyed me at times.
Characters from the other books pop up and I can’t wait to read more about the Four Horseman. That is going to be very interesting
I have read a few books by this author and I love how she always surprises me with her twists and turns. I always have a “what just happened? But …” moment while reading.
I’ve always wanted a glimpse into Arson’s story. I got that and so much more. Arson met his match when he stumbled upon Callista. She was such an amazing character. It didn’t matter how crazy Arson was she wasn’t putting up with his crap. Callista had a need to be free. She didn’t want to answer to anyone. Let alone a serial killer. Arson had other ideas for his stubborn captive.
