Quirky, funny, cozy mystery. Doreen has been traded in for a younger wife. She returns to Kelowna to live in the house Nan left her as she went into assisted living. Doreen has been stiffed by the ex, albeit almost ex and her divorcee lawyer and there was not a lot going down that path in this first cozy mystery, maybe in the future endeavors as I would love to see then both get their come up-pence. Doreen and Mugs (her basset)are just hours in to the move in when a bone is found, a human finger to be exact and off we go. It was non stop action, sass, and quick thinking intelligent woman who loves to garden. Corporal Mack heads up the investigation an Doreen quickly exasperates and intrigues him. There is a red herring ( I certainly picked the wrong guilty party) and Nan is a character in her own right. I would lover her for a Nan. Enjoyable, warm hearted mystery ( I guess that’s why the call them cozy 🙂 ) Thank you Dale Mayer and Book sprout, I so needed a break from the darkness in our world today. I voluntarily leave this review.
Between the dead bodies that keep turning up, the antics of the animals, and the situations Doreen finds herself in, this was very entertaining start of a new series. There’s the mystery of whether the dead bodies are connected, who the murder is, and is Doreen’s grandmother somehow involved in all this. All the while, Doreen is trying to cope with being divorced and having to learn to live without all the staff (butler, cooks, gardeners) that she had while married to her rich ex. This was a great start to a new series and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Loved the animals, especially Thaddeus the parrot. Made me grin, of course, I caught myself grinning often thru the book with the shenanigans of the animals. I’m liking this new series, but then again, I like everything this author writes. Mack with Doreen’s unsolicited help navigatesold and new murders. Looking forward to the next book for the next part of this story.
This is a new series by Dale Mayer and it is just as amazing as her other books. I love her unique writing style and her ability to pull you into the srory. I really enjoyed this book.
