Arriving from Arkansas is a cute story and it had me smiling frequently while I read it. I thought Arriving from Arkansas was well-written with realistic characters. Josie and Jim have secrets which adds depth to the story. I like that we have our heroes and our villains as is needed in a story set in this time period and locale. Josie is an entertaining character and I liked her naivete (normal for a woman of her age and from a small town). She is trying to improve her circumstances which I admire. Jim is a dashing hero who wants justice for his murdered brother. Mrs. Adeline Brown is a delightful woman. She is a force of nature, but Adeline has people’s best interests in mind. I like the two mysteries with Josie hunting for the silver and Jim looking for his brother’s killer. It adds intrigue and complexity to the story. There is humor in Arriving from Arkansas from Josie’s various antics. I could relate to her burning the bread because she became engrossed in a book (I have had similar incidents). My favorite phrase came from Reverend Brown who said “This world isn’t the whole story. It’s just the pale prologue.” I like that Arriving in Arkansas is a clean wholesome Christian novel that could be read by anyone from 13 to 103. I am eager to read the rest of the books in the Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge. Arriving from Arkansas is a charming historical novel with a lovely cook, a handsome deputy U.S. Marshall, a wily killer, a nosy journalist and a hidden silver mine.
Arriving from Arkansas is the first installment from The Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge series and my first introduction to Elisa Keyston’s work. I enjoyed this sweet and quick historical. I am giving it four stars and look forward to the next book in the series.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Arriving from Arkansas by Elisa Keyston is book 1 of The Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge, and if this is any indication, I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories! Josie and Jim each have a secret. Josie is trying to find the silver mine her uncle told her about before he died. She is posing as a cook at a boarding house. Jim is trying to find his brother’s killer. He is also undercover posing as a mill supervisor. This is an engrossing story that kept me turning the pages way too late at night! I couldn’t wait to see how it ended!
This was a cleverly crafted historical romance, filled with comedy as well as edge of your seat thrills that kept me guessing until the end. A strong independent woman, Josie’s courage is enviable. As an undercover U.S. Marshall, Jim is a true swoon worthy western hero. Also included, a murderous villain, an egocentric deputy and a widowed philanthropist round out the cast of characters living in Rattlesnake Ridge.
I received this copy free from the publisher and am under no obligation to leave a review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am freely sharing my opinion.
This was a nice clean read at times a little slow but it picked up.
This is a great clean read with a few twists to keep you guessing along the way.
This is a nice, clean historical romance set in Nevada in the late 1860s. Josie has reasons to come to Rattlesnake Ridge other than as the new cook in a boarding house. Jim has reasons of his own for taking a job at a limber mill in Rattlesnake Ridge – locating the murderer of his brother. The two meet on the stagecoach and strike up a conversation. When they arrive in the very small town, they realize that they will be bumping into each other often.
The author gives the reader solid backgrounds on her characters and packs a lot of it in the two weeks in which the story takes place, making the hero and heroine not quite “instant love”. Instead, the author builds the relationship at a good pace. There are lies and deceptions which the main characters must sort out, but the hero is strong and kind and the heroine is his equal, if somewhat foolish in her determination to find her uncle’s silver mine. Well written and full bodied story.
First book in the Rattlesnake Ridge Bride series by Elisa Keyston. There’s drama suspense and a mystery. All in the small town and close knit community if Rattlesnake Ridge. Josie and Jim are realistic down to earth people. I enjoyed the townspeople and the mystery. They worked well together. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more in series and by the author.
The characters in this story are well developed and the main characters are likeable. The story does quite well until the climax and the climax and epilogue are disjointed in places. I finished the story feeling not quite satisfied with the ending.
Arriving from Arkansas is a historical, mystery Romance. Both Josie and Jim arrive in Rattlesnake Ridge hiding their true reasons for being there. This is a well written book with good, believable characters, a cute romance and a murder mystery.
This is not my first choice of genre but I did enjoy this book and I am sure it will delight all historical romance fans. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Great characters, some really sweet others’s not so nice. Josie had me laughing with her cooking skills. There is lots of action with bad guys and romance with one sweet cowboy. Both Jim and Josie have secrets that can lead to trouble. Great story!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
A really wonderful book. Filled with romance, intrigue, suspense.
A page turner that I couldn’t put down.
Loved it.
This is both suspense and romance all wrapped up in a godly story! I found Elisa and this series by way of Patrcia Carroll’s book, and I knew i had to read the whole Rattlesnake Ridge series!
Rattlesnake Ridge what a name I loved it and I loved this story. I can just see Josie traveling to take a job at a boarding house as a cook when she could not really cook. This book has secrets and intrigue all mixed into a delightful story. I love stories about strong willed characters who take on the challenges of life to make things better for them. I highly recommend this book it was so good. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A determined young lady hiding her real reason for coming to town and a young man whose profession doesn’t allow him to reveal his reason for coming to town. I personally found the first half of the book too be good, but the action really gets going and pulls you along in the second half.
The Old West stories are not my favorite genre, but this book is changing that.
I love the people and how they solved problems back then.
There are romance and suspense too.
This is the first book I have read by this author but won’t be the last.
Love this plot and characters. A must read for this genre. I volunteered to read an advance copy for an honest review.
Josie comes to Rattlesnake Ridge to work as a cook at boarding house, but she has a secret, real reason is that she wants to find lost mine her uncle worked at.
Jim comes to Rattlesnake Ridge to work as a foreman at lumber mill, but real reason he is there to catch his brother’s killer.
Will both of them find what they came there to find or maybe they will find more than they were looking for.
I did enjoy this book.
Start of a fun new series.
There is quite the mystery afoot here. An undercover lawman, a hiding heiress, good guys, bad guys, and a whole lot of silver all tangled together in a fun clean/sweet historical western story.
