Arriving from Arkansas by Elisa Keyston is a sweet pioneer story of Josephine Lane and Jim who arrive in a stagecoach to Rattlesnake Ridge, a small lumber town. Both Josephine and Jim have secrets as to why they came to Rattlesnake Ridge. Jim is an undercover federal agent at the lumber mill looking for the killer of his brother and Josephine lied to become a cook at the boarding house but she is looking for her uncles silver claim to stake. Arriving from Arkansas is sweet and has wonderful characters. I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I received this book as an arc for an honest review of it.
I found this books pacing very slow but historicals are not my favorite genre. I would recommend this book because I felt the story was good just slow for me.
I really liked it
Historical Fiction. This is not my go-to genre. But I saw the blurb and that just seemed to say “read me!” So I did. And I liked it! I really liked it! And that surprised me. I was clearly wrong in shying away from this genre.
Josephine is the new cook. But not all is as it seems… She has a secret…
Jim is a foreman. But not all is as it seems… He has a secret…
Intrigue. Mystery. Darkness. Light. And finally: Romance.
Like I said: I really liked it. I liked the layers that this story has. I liked how those layers get peeled off one by one. I liked how the story captivated me. I liked how well written it was.
I might have wanted just a bit more focus on the romance. At least it wasn’t too fast.
A gal lying about her abilities and keeping a secret agenda and a deputy gone undercover to locate a killer meet while traveling to Rattlesnake Ridge where they will start their new jobs.
This is not your typical read as there is mystery, intrigue, and romance.
I seem to be meeting a lot of new “sweet” authors this year, and this is another of those. In the first of a new series, Josie and Jim meet in the stagecoach on their way to Rattlesnake Ridge, both hiding their true identities. The “hints” about Josie’s real persona are midly irritating initially, but start to make sense, but the reader knows almost from the start who Jim is. There’s a good plot twist and some intrigue and suspense, and a HEA, so the book is ultimately satisfying.
I read an advance copy of this book.
Josie and Jim are each hiding the reason why they are going to Rattlesnake Ridge. She is going there to be a cook for the boarding house while secretly searching for a lost mine her uncle was working. He is undercover as a mill foreman while trying to track down his brother’s killer. They meet a lot of interesting characters in town and they don’t realize how closely their reasons for being in town tie together. There was plenty of suspense, humor, and romance in this story. I was rooting for them both to solve their mysteries and find happily ever after.
This was an enjoyable little read. I hadn’t read anything by this author before. I found the story well written, the pace of the book was also one that kept me reading. I would certainly recommend this book to others.
Can Josie find her dream in Rattlesnake Ridge, in no-man’s land? She is trying to find her uncle Gideon’s mine but it’s a dangerous land with dangerous people. Jim, US Marshall, is looking for his brother’s assassin in Rattlesnake Ridge. He is undercover and whe he mets Josie, they feel a connection but he can’t be honest with her. Can they find happiness in the dangerous Far West?
Sweet book. Wonderful to read! Was a definite page Turner to find out what happens. Love it!!!
This was a new to me author and series. Now I want to go and look up the previous books so I can get to know the rest of the residents of Rattlesnake Ridge. This was a well written and edited story with some interesting characters. I enjoyed the book and I am glad to get to know another author.
This is a new Author to me. I found the book to be well written it flowed smoothly from page to page. Josephine Lane arrived in Rattlesnake Ridge under false pretenses she can not really cook she has come for another reason. Jim Griffin works hard as a foreman at the local lumber mill but he is hiding something. There is suspense, drama, danger, shooting, murder, attempted ambush, attempted murder, and romance. I enjoyed reading this story and will be looking for more books from this new Author. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A romance as treacherously turbulent as the terrain the story is set on. Arriving from Arkansas is an adventure built on shaky ground that has far reaching repercussions. Keyston finds inspiration in an ever evolving always captivating, heartbreaking saga.
This was an enjoyable sweet romance. Lots of feelings are combined with some drama, suspense and a few twists. Jim and Josie were likable and I enjoyed seeing their story unfold.
