Oriscoe and Nogan’s next case starts with a pair of armless bodies and takes them right up against the Zombie mafia as they build a case against the Locus of New York’s most infamous crime family. The case is fraught with danger and the threat of zombie horde attacks keeps everyone involved on edge.
Leery even takes a break from drinking coffee.
★★★★★ “The characters were brilliantly portrayed … brilliantly portrayed and really enhanced this investigative tale as they dig themselves deeper into trouble and paint more than a few extra targets on their backs. With fresh enemies being made at every turn, a possible mole in the department, knowing who to trust is but one of their many building problems, and one of many things that will keep a reader engaged in this suspenseful investigation.” –K.J. In the Locus of New York, crimes committed by magical entities threaten the delicate balance between the mundane world and the supernatural realm.
The dedicated teams of detectives who investigate these breaches of Canon and Covenants are members of an elite unit known as the Supernatural Inquisitors Squad.
These are their stories.

claw & warder is mostly about leery & dru, but also angie and sam. it’s fun supernatural character cops & robbers and prosecutors. no csi, but a lot of blue bloods. good clean fun and exciting drama, all tongue in cheek, but with a story to tell. read it, you’ll like it
A treat for the fans
Reading the first page of Claw And Warder – Arms Dealer, I could hear the familiar “Chunk – Chonk!” of the television series which inspired it.
The whole novel in fact, reads like a treatment. I joined in on the fun, appreciating how actors from the show became characters in the story, a kind of “Easter egg hunt”.
What I hoped for, but didn’t find, however was a story. There was too much Borscht belt humor and coffee drenched references for me to get deeply involved until the book was nearly at its climax and denouement.
The overall writing and descriptive text was great, and I can see many deriving a lot of enjoyment from this work, it just needed to take itself a little more seriously to work for me.
I thought this book was fantastic… If I’m being honest at first, I was skeptical, but now I am hooked. Cannot wait for book three to come out, I’ve already preordered it!
Alert! Alert! Your new favorite author has released a new book!
This is a terrific urban fantasy/police procedural/mystery… with monsters.
Leery Oriscoe and Dru Nogan return, making their own unlikely parking space in our heads. This time they’re investigating two armless corpses… and Norwegian Wood Trolls, bugges, unseelies, The Zombie Mafia and innumerable other supernatural beings in and outside the Two-Six. I just wish they’d brought more coffee.
Vick’s world building, characters, flyting, humor, dialog, story and pace only gets better with every book I read. (Hint: I’ve read them all and put them on my TBR-Again shelf. Right next to Stephen King.)
Vicks’ imagination and story-telling border on the supernatural themselves. You just can’t go wrong with any of his books. Check out his Blood of the Isir series and the Bloodletter Saga.
DISCLOSURE: I received an advance reader’s copy of this book for no charge. This review is entirely mine and voluntary.
Episode 2 of Claw and Warder by Erik Henry Vick starts off on a roll and just keeps on going. This time Dru and Leery are stuck investigating the zombie mafia for arms dealing–as in literally dealing in arms. Gross! I don’t think there is enough coffee in the entire locus for Leery to deal with this one. Add some bad jokes, and you’ve got the makings of one really great read. I enjoyed the characters, was engrossed throughout the story and was definitely left wanting more!
I thoroughly enjoyed the war of the preternatural beings. Zany zombies, trolls, unseelie trying to outwit the Claw and Warder duo and their allies in their quest for arms was a laugh riot. The graphic description of each of these otherkin and their exploits as well as the rip roaring action make this a very enjoyable read.
This is the second installment in this series and it was a great read! I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters and delving deeper into this world. I highly recommend it!!
