This book had a lot going on in it. A deceitful mother that hid things from her son. An estranged father who fills in a lot of unexplained voids in Jake’s life. A little girl that looks just like him. A chance to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend who he believes broke his heart. Then there is Kendra. She too believes Jake broke her heart and when she sees him again after six years feels like she has to protect her heart. This is a familiar story line but there is a lot of heart in this sweet Christmas romance. The characters are likable. I was a little frustrated with Kendra and her reactions to Jacob but they are easily explained as her trying to protect herself. But she is almost cruel to Jacob at a most critical time in Jake’s life when he is learning many truths that are life changers. Other than that this was a very enjoyable sweet read.
This is a sweet second-chance-at-love Christmas story. Kendra’s a single mom to 5 year old Aria, who makes a wish almost everyday in the wishing fountain. She refuses to tell anyone, even Santa, what her wish is because she believes if she does, it won’t come true. How’s Kendra going to find out what her daughter’s Christmas wish is? When Kendra’s car breaks down and she realizes she left her cell phone at home help comes in the most unexpected way–Jacob, the man who broke her heart 6 years ago when he left Highland Falls.
There was major miscommunication or lack of communication between Kendra and Jacob all those years ago, but it wasn’t their fault. When Jacob tells Kendra he never received her letters or messages it’s easy to figure out it was because his mother intercepted the letters and lied to Kendra about giving Jacob the messages. Kendra and Jacob had a lot of hurt feelings and misconceptions to work through, and thanks to Aria they had the incentive to do it.
I felt for Jacob when he realized all the things his mother had done that affected his life–keeping his father from him and purposely hidding the letters Kendra had sent him. I was surprised that she felt no remorse or sorrow for what she had done, especially since it kept his daughter away from him. There’s a strong theme of forgiveness and healing in this Christmas story. I really liked that the author included an epilogue so the story didn’t simple end with the proposal.
He left thinking she wanted nothing to do with him. She went through it all alone. All of her attempts at contacting him just broke her heart more with each attempt. Outside forces have kept them at bay for years and now there’s more reason than ever for them to reconnect, Aria. It seems everyone is in on it including him, now all she has to do is get on board. This author does a great job with the angst and emotions without it being overdone and underwhelming. Love these two together and him a man on a mission. It’s a great emotional read and Ms Aria is a jewel.
I enjoyed Aria’s Christmas Wish. It was a sweet and romantic Christmas story of two people reunited six years later for a second chance at love. The little girl, Aria was adorable in this story. I loved her Christmas wish she made after tossing pennies into the fountain.
All of the characters warmed my heart and had me rooting for them to become a family. I also liked some of the surprises in the story. I especially liked the last chapter , the epilogue , and the lyrics to the songs. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A sweet second-chances romance, this Christmas novelette is the stuff dreams are made of. Struggling Mom, Kendra, is doing her best to makes ends meet and trying to find out what her daughter’s secrets Christmas wish is, drives her crazy. Her unexpected meeting with Jake turns her world upside down, but when he starts to hone into the truth about Aria, Kendra’s anger and sense of rejection bubble to the fore. Jake is a big country star, but at heart, he is still the same boy that dated Kendra at school. Joining Aria at the wishing well to throw his penny in, Jake makes a wish and gets far more than he anticipated when the truth about not only Kenda and Aria come out, but his own past as well. The story is sweet and touches the heart, especially with the addition of a cute little girl who is very certain about what she wants in life, the end result is heartwarming and left me with a smile on my face. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Sweet second chance romance with a cracker of a kid
Aria is a five-year-old ball of sweet energy and she was the element that gave me the most enjoyment in this romance set right before Christmas. Aria’s single-minded determination to finagle a successful Christmas wish out of pennies flung in the town’s central fountain is reminiscent of Ralphie’s campaign to get a Red Rider BB gun in the iconic A Christmas Story movie. But this little girl can really keep a secret! And her wish is actually so darling and unexpected.
Her mother Kendra’s life is otherwise pretty depressing until her only love Jacob returns to town. Their second chance romance is sweet and clean with Jacob working his way into the mother and child’s daily life. I also liked the side story line about the hero’s relationship with his clingy mother and estranged father. But, what was Jacob’s secret Christmas wish? Only Aria knows!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
