Margaret Simon, almost 12, has just moved from New York City to the suburbs, and she’s anxious to fit in with her new friends. When she’s asked to join a secret club she jumps at the chance. But when the girls start talking about boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret starts to wonder if she’s normal. There are some things about growing up that are hard for her to talk about, even … even with her friends. Lucky for Margaret, she’s got someone else to confide in… someone who always listens.

This was a favorite book for me as a child.
This usually isn’t a book I would like. But this book is a pretty okay book to read. I wouldn’t put it on the top of your must read book list but it is pretty realistic. And Judy Blume is a pretty popular author. It’s good to read popular authors because then you’ll have something to chat about with people. This book had a couple jokes in it and you can relate to Margret the main character. But it is just one of those friend dramas. But one of the okay ones.
Sincerely,
Sour Pickle.
(P.S. I’m a picky reader and if you liked this just know I’m very hard to please! I need the best book and I’m all set.)
Teenage transformational
I love this book I want there part 2
Read this book several times. Margret is blooming into a young lady. She starts to notice boys and wants Mother Nature to hurry along. She learns the truth about her best friend who turns out to be a liar and she finds out that life is an adventure for a young girl coming into her own.
Timeless tale from, I think, the 70s. It is beautiful and insightful and when I read it again feels like comfort food. It is amazing that she can back so much truth into such a little place. This book is simply a classic. It may not make sense to somebody else, but I feel like Judy Blume has made up part of my heart.
I read this when I was a young girl and loved it and still do.
This book just took me back to my childhood of reading this book. I still enjoyed reading it. So much of the pre-teen years I just remember going through! It is a great book for pre-teen girls!
I loved this book just as much as I did the first time I read it. Margaret is such a good sweet character. Her journey through being a girl is so relatable.
Was sooo much fun reading this as an adult! I had two other friends read it at the same time and we had a book club meeting about it … We even brought out Boy Books! Ha Ha … We all had Philip has our number one … SO GREAT!!
This book and the writing project we did with it in school were both great memories! If your kid’s didn’t get to do this in school, its a great project to teach them how to write a real letter! Happy Reading!
Read this in fifth grade. Traumatizing, lol.
For a juvenile reader, this is good.
Great book about getting your first period.
Every girl about to, or experiencing their coming of age needs to read this.
One of my favorite books when I was a kid
The is a wonderful middle grade novel. Perfect.
Such a classic, coming-of-age novel for preteens. I read this dozens of times, skimming over the “church parts” to get to the “good parts,” where Margaret was developing and wishing her body would mature faster. What girl couldn’t relate to that, while worrying excitedly what would happen at her first boy-girl party? 9-to-12 year-old girls will love this timeless book.
I think girls this age should know that it’s not just them thinking about that.
Great read for early adolescent girls! I ate it up at that age and still recommend it.
