Enter New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s breathtakingly passionate Guild Hunter world with the story of a woman who isn’t a vampire or an angel…or human… coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.
Now, someone has put a bounty on her head…
Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael’s private guard, and he’s as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly’s. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself—because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening…
No one is safe.

Loved the snarky interchange between the leading characters. An amazing world. First book by this author I’ve read, but won’t be the last.
10th in the series. If you haven’t started this one, go back and start at Angel’s Blood and work your way up to this one. Ms. Singh’s writing is amazing. This book wasn’t my favorite, I didn’t like the main character at the beginning and I wanted a little longer romance but all in all a great addition to the series.
3 stars – I liked it
Holly Chang’s life changed when she was brutalized by an insane archangel. Now she has to deal with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite. But when a bounty is put on her head she finds herself working with Venom to get to the bottom of it.
This book takes place at the same time as the previous book, Archangel’s Heart. Holly is dealing with new side affects of her change but has been hiding them from everyone. When Venom returns he refuses to let her hide anymore. These two have been butting heads since they were introduced but they finally get past that and admit their feelings.
Venom has been one of the characters that I was really interested in learning more about. His backstory was very interesting and unexpected at times. Holly was a character that I didn’t really have strong feelings for before this book but she grew on me. She was strong and determined to win against Uram’s poison.
Overall, these two made a good couple. I look forward to seeing their relationship growth in future books.
A terrific book by a terrific author. One of my favorites in her hunter/archangel series.
Archangel’s Viper is the tenth book in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. This time Venom, one of Raphael’s Seven, is getting his book. I’ve wanted to read his book since he was first introduced in the series. His viper like eyes and vampirism had me fascinated. He ends up with Holly Chang to watch out for her since someone has a bounty on her. They’re not sure why someone would want Holly.
Holly was once known as Sorrow since she was one of Uram’s victims in the series’s first book. She gave herself that name after realizing she was no longer human. She was never the same and is still going through changes after Uram attacked her. Now she thinks she’s becoming something worst.
Something is awakening in her, and she thinks it may be Uram. It’s up to Venom and Holly to find out what is happening.
Be prepared in the beginning to realize that Venom and Holly are not friendly with each other. It’s more of a hate-to-love relationship. There is a reason behind it, though. I could feel for Holly from the beginning of the series, but I felt more for her in this book. The poor girl wants a normal life but knows she’ll never get one now.
Venom is not a softy, so readers should get that out of their heads. He’s not about romance. I did like getting to know his character.
I’m happy though that these two characters find each other because they need each other.
Overall, this book gets four stars, and I recommend it to PNR/UF fans.
I will be diving into the next book soon since I need to finish catching up before Nalini releases the next book in the series this Autumn.
Another great read from Nalini Singh!
This is my favorite Nalini Singh series. I love this series with a passion you would not believe. In fact, it is one of my all-time favorite series EVER. This series has one of my all-time favorite couples, Raphael and Elena. That said, I don’t think I can ever be disappointed by a new Guild Hunter novel. And I wasn’t! Viper and Holly were seriously fun together despite the serious plot, which I think suited Viper perfectly. Amazing read!
3.5 Stars
As much as I was looking forward to Venom’s story, this one was probably my least favorite out of all the side characters.
It was still good and I enjoyed getting to know more about Venom and Holly, just compared to all the others, it lacked something.
I think it was more of what happened to Holly near the end. I can’t speak about it do to being a spoiler but….it was weird. It felt more twilight zone than anything.
Worth the read to get more of all these characters, just not as exciting as the rest.
He may be the youngest immortal in the archangel Raphael’s elite guard, but Venom is just as dangerous as the rest of the Seven. Having been Made by the Queen of Snakes, Venom is a unique and deadly creation. He’s also been a mystery to us and I’m so glad we finally have his book!
I’ve enjoyed Venom’s snarky banter and his ruthless wit throughout the series. He’s forbidden fruit and could tempt the most divine immortals to fall. He may look like a gorgeous supermodel you’d happily be seduced by, but beneath Venom’s skin lies a lethal creature with poison so virulent, you’ll be begging for death.
Holly was just a young and carefree twentysomething when she was kidnapped with several of her friends by a crazy madman. Having been tortured in unspeakable ways, Holly was changed on a fundamental level. Trying to find her new place in the world, she’s starting to be happy again. But she’s hiding a deadly secret. Not only that, Holly’s got this big a**hole with stupid sunglasses who’s made it his life’s work to forever be a thorn in her side. Whether it’s calling her annoying nicknames or making fun of her “kitty fangs,” Holly loathes Venom with every cell in her body. If only he’d find someone else to torture
As with all Nalini Singh books, ARCHANGEL’S VIPER is exciting, thrilling and brilliantly put together! I loved every page of it! Holly and Venom love to hate each other and their constant ribbing had me laughing every single time. The ultimate antagonists, their banter was the comic relief that balanced the heavier aspects of the book.
I love Holly. She’s a survivor and I loved watching her grow into her maturity. She constantly battles adversity and NEVER stops fighting. Holly is a kick-ass heroine and I admired her greatly.
Venom is the same old Venom. He’s infuriating, aggravating and devastatingly sexy. Even though I’m not a big fan of snakes, Venom started to grow on me as the story went on. It was interesting to learn about his past and why he’s become a jaded, cynical vampire.
ARCHANGEL’S VIPER exceeds all my expectations and I never wanted it to end! However, I am looking forward to the next Guild Hunter book. Could it finally be Illium’s book? Or maybe Aodhan? Or maybe a secondary character gets a chance to shine… or it could be another Raphael and Elena book. Whichever way the series flows, you better believe I’ll be a ride-or-die reader until the end!
I whole-heartedly recommend this and every book by Nalini Singh!
***I voluntarily read a copy of the book in 2017 in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings are my own**
Viper is either a very high four star read or a five star read, so why split hairs?
I’d been waiting for Venom and Holly “Sorrow” to get a book since book four when they were kind of introduced to one another and readers learned more about Holly. This book didn’t really disappoint. I think the reason I’m uncertain about the high rating (honestly, only I give a shit), is because the ending through me for a loop. “Which is a good thing, Courtney!” I love surprises, but I guess I had this idea of what *exactly* was going to happen and when it didn’t happen *exactly* that way, I was just shocked lol.
I’m glad that Singh neatly tied up and explained things, because otherwise readers would be taking a lot of leaps of faith. I love Venom and Holly together. They’re the cutest and I’ll ship them for all my days.
Like I kind of, maybe (?) said before, I really enjoyed Viper. It wasn’t my favorite in the series because it seems like it got off track from one of the major plot lines these books have been following for a bit, but it still kept me reading. I was just left wondering (not for long, because I’m about to start the next book) about that major plot line for majority of Viper.
I love this whole series
*Waves* Hey bookish friends, it’s that time again I am taking over the world, ha ha not really… or am I? one blog at a time… kidding, kidding I was graciously asked to review Archangel’s Viper over here at SROKK, I am Ang; if you didn’t know me I own PNR Book Lover Reviews, I love everything that is Nalini and I adore her stories.
With saying that, it saddens me to say this but, WHERE WAS ALL THE ROMANCE? *insert sad face* seriously the story is good I was surprised I liked it so much, I mean I knew I would but in the end, I was like loving it. I was freaking out when I started, I was having some major character development issues, I knew in my head that Venom and Holly wouldn’t have an insta- love relationship, no one ever does in these series, I was just struggling with the overall story in the begging but around 30-40% I was all in.
This Guild Hunter book is the 10th novel in the series!
For me the overall story captivated me, I needed to know the why’s and the how’s. I was 100% in love with Venom. He was such an interesting character to get to know more, one of Raphael’s seven, and it was his time to shine.
“You make the idea of forever a journey into adventure rather than…”
Holly took a little while to grow on me, but she won me over with her sass. It’s hard to explain who she is without going more into the back story of the series, so NO this is defiantly not a standalone, to enjoy the story more I would say start at the beginning of the series. We meet Holly and Venom so long ago now and have seen snippets of them throughout the series, and now it is time for their story!
I think Nalini is hands down one of the BEST skilled story tellers I have ever read, with every story that captures you in a way you can’t not think, “wow, what goes through her mind writing these stories”
When I finished this story, I felt that we needed more, like once the end came I was dying to see more of their relationship progress. I’m sure we will see them more throughout the series, I really enjoyed the slow burn of their relationship, once I got my head into the game. This couple, though they have already had this amazing friendship over the years so it didn’t feel weird for them to expand on the feelings they have for one and other, I just wish we had more romance and sexy time!
“I’m broken inside”
I know I know I want a lot, I just would have liked more…
Venom is the youngest of the seven, and he is so mysterious, he has the most unique look and is very loyal to Raphael, I think having Holly as his partner in crime was perfect as they were so much alike with having the same abilities. I enjoyed watching Holly grow into her own, she’s had one hell of a ride being turned by a crazy Archangel, having to watch her friends be murdered and tortured and coming out on the other side strong enough to take back her life!
I loved the twist and turns this book provided, oh man! I was on the edge of my seat, up late in the mornings reading the next chapter just to see what was going to happen!
I was so happy to see my fav angels in this one, not a lot but enough to be happy, we have moments with Raphael and Ilium and can I just say I cannot wait for Ilium’s story, I really am hoping it’ll be a mm romance! *PLEASE Nalini, PLEASE*
This was an enjoyable read, it was. I loved the banter between all the characters, the story was fantastic. It just left me a little deflated. Just a lot of mixed feelings from this super fan of Nalini’s.
What I did love, that we learned so much about Venoms past. Who he is, what he is and his unique abilities. I love that he treats Holy as his equal and vis versa. This was one story that has left me confused but it’s not bad thing it was just different to every other guild hunter romance, but man that ending what was growing inside her and wait I can’t continue with this sentence because that is a spoiler! Damn, you guys I was shook with what happened! Slightly grossed out, but I am in awe of the writing and the outcome!
“Drat. I was hoping if I ignored the crawling sensation up my arms, you’d poof back to the hole you slithered out of.”
10 points for the amazing tension between Venom and Holly, it was so good, along with their nick names and so many funny interactions. On that note, I am going for 5 stars, all I wanted was more romance time.
“From the tips of my hair to the tips of my toes, from yesterday to tomorrow and every tomorrow we will ever see…”
My favorite of this series.
I can’t get enough of the hunters guild series.
I love Venom! Every time I think I can’t love the men in the Guild Hunter series more, a new book comes out
This is one of my favorite authors! Her Archangel world is very creative, and her writing is always entertaining, unusual and satisfying!
Incredible, Incredible, Incredible series!. I always eagerly await each new book. Beautiful writing, gifted storyteller, “grabs ya from page 1”. My only complaint– I wish she would write faster!
Love all of Nalini Singh’s Archangle series books and this is another excellent addition that builds beautifully into the overall story. I’m really enjoying getting to know Viper and Holly and am eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the series.
I have been waiting for a story for Venom for a long time, this was wonerful and worth the wait. I totally enjoy this author.
Excellent book like all of the author’s books.
