Missed the earlier books in the series? Now’s a great time to catch up! Special Kindle Countdown Deals on the first nine books, Sep 4-11, to celebrate the release of the 10th book, Overboard. In Apalachicola, FL, what goes in the river doesn’t always stay there. When some locals find a dead woman in the jaws of a gator, it’s fairly upsetting. When Lt. Maggie Redmond finds lifelong friend Axel … fairly upsetting. When Lt. Maggie Redmond finds lifelong friend Axel Blackwell in the dead woman’s hotel room, it’s a little more upsetting than that.
Axel becomes the chief suspect in his ex-wife’s murder, but Maggie is convinced that he would never harm the beautiful but tragic Marisol Corzo.
As Axel deals with his loss, and the potential loss of his freedom, Maggie works to unravel the evidence, evidence that suggests Marisol brought about her own demise. Drug dealers from down south seek to expand their commerce to the sleepy, coastal town of Apalachicola, FL, and it seems that the dead woman is the one who led them there.
As Maggie tries to understand who Marisol really was, she also comes to terms with who she really is, and with her true connection to town crime lord Bennett Boudreaux.
Told with the dry humor, rich coastal atmosphere, and character-driven suspense for which the series is known, Apparent Wind is the 7th book in the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series. Although the series is best enjoyed read in order, Apparent Wind can be read as a standalone novel.
What readers are saying about the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense Series
Not only does McKenna not disappoint, she exceeds already high expectations with this exciting, well-written sequel. The characters are multi-layered, their actions believable. And as McKenna showed in Low Tide, she can wallop you when you least expect it.
If only Dawn McKenna could write as fast as we can read.
Very few people write southerners well. This author is right there among the very best.
The forgotten Coast series has gotten like a great TV series you can’t wait for the next one to come out so you can see where its leading.
Not just absorbing and full of surprises, but impossible to predict. McKenna has an amazingly fertile imagination.
I discovered this series quite by accident. I love her in-depth characterizations, vivid imagery, and witty dialogue, all reminiscent of James Lee Burke. It’s rare to find this quality of writing on Kindle Unlimited.
The Forgotten Coast series has lyrical writing that is descriptive without going overboard (no pun intended) and a truly thrilling story line with well developed characters.

I absolutely loved every book in this series and felt bereft when I finished Book 10. The chapters are great and each book has a different and suspenseful plot.
I like all of Me Mackenna’s books. They are good mysteries and very entertaining. I like learning about the background histories and geographic locations, too.
I loved this book and all the books on the series. I like the location and can almost smell the salt air and ocean breezes. Of course there is a murder and the question of who did it. Love the characters and their interwoven connections. These books remind me of James Lee Burke with the attention to the scenery and following the lives of the characters.
I first read Dawn’s books when Wayne Stinnett recommended it in his newsletter. I have been hooked ever since.
Just finished Apparent Wind. I enjoyed the story, and was caught up in the twists and turns as it unfolded. Wish I had read some of the earlier books in this series before this one, even so, this was an entertaining read.
good read from a new author for me. I would like to read more from Ms. McKenna.
All the books in this series are great!
This writer makes everything so real, the setting is in Florida and places I have been and can relate too. She makes it a fun read, one of the reasons is because she has a rooster named Stoopid that she loved and writes a lot about. I am on the 10th book of this series and wish there were more.
Love this series. Always looking forward to the next book in the series. Great characters
I liked the book and I found it interesting.
Oh I love this whole series. Good writing, good plots, good dialogue, continuing characters, what’s not to like? Especially NW Florida, really a unique place. I totally recommend these books. The only thing I wonder about is Boudreaux – he is described as the resident criminal, but never says what his crimes are, and he is always sympathetically portrayed.
I truly hate to give this book such a low rating, but I’d read earlier books in this series that were fast-paced with well-developed plots and characters and this book had none of those. The only reason investigator Maggie Redmond’s interminable angst made any sense was because I knew what precipitated it from reading previous books. Readers without that knowledge will find themselves wondering what her problem is.
As far as the plot goes, my only suspense was related to if and when she intended to give the dead woman’s murder anything more than casual attention. When it rather than her personal problems finally did gain her attention (well over halfway through the book), the solution was so lame with so many loose threads that I found it dissatisfying.
Similarly, other previously well-developed characters who added depth to her previous books were reduced to caricatures or cameos,
All in all, this book was a huge disappointment for me because I knew the kind of writing this author is capable of producing. Perhaps lacking that, I would have found it more acceptable.
A great read will read more from this author.
this book in the series kept my interest throughout! Great read!
I could not put it down. She is a wonderful author. I have read all her books.
Very entertaining book, enjoyed it immensely. Great character development. Can’t wait to start the next one.
I like the whole series. The Stoopid parts are hilarious.
i like all books about the gulf coast
Fun to read. Very different.
I love this complete series. Great story lines. Written with no offensive language. What a nice change. Loved the Nanny. She always keeps you guessing and laughing at the same time. Characters well developed. Could not stop reading until every book was read. Highly recommend.
