Missed the earlier books in the series? Now’s a great time to catch up! Special Kindle Countdown Deals on the first nine books, Sep 4-11, to celebrate the release of the 10th book, Overboard. In Apalachicola, FL, what goes in the river doesn’t always stay there. When some locals find a dead woman in the jaws of a gator, it’s fairly upsetting. When Lt. Maggie Redmond finds lifelong friend Axel … fairly upsetting. When Lt. Maggie Redmond finds lifelong friend Axel Blackwell in the dead woman’s hotel room, it’s a little more upsetting than that.
Axel becomes the chief suspect in his ex-wife’s murder, but Maggie is convinced that he would never harm the beautiful but tragic Marisol Corzo.
As Axel deals with his loss, and the potential loss of his freedom, Maggie works to unravel the evidence, evidence that suggests Marisol brought about her own demise. Drug dealers from down south seek to expand their commerce to the sleepy, coastal town of Apalachicola, FL, and it seems that the dead woman is the one who led them there.
As Maggie tries to understand who Marisol really was, she also comes to terms with who she really is, and with her true connection to town crime lord Bennett Boudreaux.
Told with the dry humor, rich coastal atmosphere, and character-driven suspense for which the series is known, Apparent Wind is the 7th book in the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series. Although the series is best enjoyed read in order, Apparent Wind can be read as a standalone novel.
What readers are saying about the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense Series
Not only does McKenna not disappoint, she exceeds already high expectations with this exciting, well-written sequel. The characters are multi-layered, their actions believable. And as McKenna showed in Low Tide, she can wallop you when you least expect it.
If only Dawn McKenna could write as fast as we can read.
Very few people write southerners well. This author is right there among the very best.
The forgotten Coast series has gotten like a great TV series you can’t wait for the next one to come out so you can see where its leading.
Not just absorbing and full of surprises, but impossible to predict. McKenna has an amazingly fertile imagination.
I discovered this series quite by accident. I love her in-depth characterizations, vivid imagery, and witty dialogue, all reminiscent of James Lee Burke. It’s rare to find this quality of writing on Kindle Unlimited.
The Forgotten Coast series has lyrical writing that is descriptive without going overboard (no pun intended) and a truly thrilling story line with well developed characters.

One of my favorite authors!
I saw a bit more romance here than suspense, but it didn’t ruin the book. The relationship with Boudreaux was well written. I hate spoilers, so you’ll have to understand once you read it. Kudos to author, Dawn Led McKenna, on another Maggie winner.
This was an intelligent, twisty and entertaning read.
I like this character
I highly recommend ANYTHING from D. McKenna. I love her books and have read all of them.
All the Dawn Lee McKenna books are great
I love Dawn’s books and characters and am looking forward to the next chapter!
The reason that I rated this book as Dissappointing was because if it is read as a stand alone, much of the missing personal information leaves gaps in this story’s enjoyment. Example: Lt Redman’s husband has died: how/why/when. It seems to have been only months ago, but she ends book engaged to the former Sheriff. Must have been estranged, since we’re told he was living on his boat-not with his wife and kids. The former Sheriff is now the “Information Officer” with no explanation if this was his choice or if he was demoted or not re-elected. Lt Redman is having major issues having recently learned that her dad isn’t her biological father and is angry at both her parents and the bio dad. Apparently she learned this when her cousin raped her, without him knowing there was a connection. (Tired yet?) And let’s not forget the new Sheriff whom no one likes and who forces the arrest of the murder victim’s ex husband simply because he was in the vicinity. Most of the book revolves around these people’s interactions not the purpose of a police procedural. The murderer is caught, but not very satisfyingly. The actual murder and police work of this book seemed to be an afterthought to be thrown in as a conveyance to the character’s interplay.
Loved the mystery, and the well crafted glimpse into the part of the Florida coast.
I have read every book in this series and am waiting on the next one to come out.
Actually, I have read all of Wayne Stinnett’s books and am waiting on the next one in all his series. He just cannot write fast enough! Loved every line. Kept me sitting on the edge of my seat and out of my bed as could not put these books down. Loved every line.
I just like Dawn’s writing style, thoroughly enjoy this series.
This was another Entertaining Maggie Redmond novel that keeps your interest.
Liked it very much. The setting was good as well as the well-rounded characters. Will go back for the other books in the series as the author is a great storyteller.
I really enjoy the Forgotten Coast Florida series. Great characters.
Somewhat entertaining, but not the best written material I’ve read.
Love the series!
I just love ALL of Dawn Lee McKenna’s stories! They are fun, easy-reads with great characters and suspense.
This is the third book I have read in this series. I like the main characters, it’s easy reading, and best of I know the area it is set in. Kind of like going on vacation.
Love this series. Look forward to more of the same. Great characters and lots of real emotions.
