I enjoyed this book much more than Calypso. The narrator seems to have found a good pace for telling the story. This book was full of action, good vs evil, a bomb, and plenty of shooting. It’s more of an adventure novel than a mystery novel. The characters are well developed and some characters from previous novels reappear in this story. I liked the ending and the justice served. Good book.
Author Blair Howard is back with Harry Starke. If you’ve read any of the Harry Starke novels, you know Harry is an ex police officer, sometimes “retired” private investigator with a very beautiful and pregnant wife, Amanda. Harry comes with all of his friends/associates that we’ve come to know and love, and a few we’ve learned to hate. In this 13th novel you will go up and down with Harry as he fights his inner demons and some old fiends from his past, as always trying to keep his future open. A few surprises in this one, not your typical Harry Stark mystery, more of a Harry Stark Thriller. Come along for the ride, you won’t be disappointed. One of the nice things about the Harry Starke series, even if you haven’t read all of the books, you get enough back ground throughout each one to figure out who is who. As an ARC reader for author Blair Howard, I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Did not predict the ending. Can hardly wait for the next book to see what happens. I like the arrogant Harry Starke.
This book was a bit different from the other Harry Starke novels. Part of that is due to Harry making concessions to Amanda as to how much trouble he will allow himself to get into since he is due to become a father shortly. Then this book was more of a thriller than a mystery and I’m just a little more partial to mysteries. There were the usual twists and turns in the storyline but some parts just were a little out there. I do still recommend reading the book if you are a Harry Starke fan.
WOW!!! This one was different alright. Different in a good way. I’ve read a number of the “Harry Starke” books and have enjoyed them all. It is my favorite genre but this one went somewhere else and I followed willingly. Now I’m waiting for Blair Howard to get to the next because there’s much more I’m waiting for Start writing fast!!!
My heart rate is still elevated, what a thriller! The storyline never let’s up and the characters are raring to go face harm at every turn.
Harry is contacted by an acquaintance in the FBI, seeming his help to track down terroists with a nuclear bomb. Harry promises his very pregnant wife he will not get involved beyond connecting the FBI except to track down the man helping the terrorists. Of course he jumps into the fray with both feet.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Apocalypse is gritty thriller that builds to an incredible ending. Although this book is the thirteenth Harry Starke novel it can be read as a stand-alone. In a race against time Harry Starke and his team need to do anything and everything they can, lives depend on them. This is an action thriller rather than a mystery and it is definitely explosive. I have to read the next book in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.
