When the local authorities ask Ruby Simpson to help them find a thief in the small town of Castle Cove, she doesn’t have much of a choice. She predicted the most recent theft, and the cops have no other leads. There are just two small problems. One, she’s not psychic. Two, she’s not Ruby Simpson.Okay, maybe they’re not small problems. But Charlotte needs a place to lay low with her younger … with her younger sister, somewhere her parents won’t find her and the locals won’t ask too many questions. Getting involved with the cops, especially Deputy “Cute Butt” Jared, isn’t a smart thing for a reformed con artist to do. But Charlotte has to make a choice: raise her little sister on the right side of the law or put food on the table.
What the real Ruby doesn’t see in her crystal ball won’t hurt her, right?

Enjoyably mystery comedy.
All Charlotte wanted to do in her life was to start afresh. She was trying to give her sister Paige a normal childhood and hide away from her con artist parents. Just that things never go as she had planned.
When the money position goes really bad, Charlotte has to pretend to be Ruby Simpson, the psychic. Worse, Charlotte’s psychic predictions come true.
The story was thoroughly enjoyable with enough humour sprinkled all over as we see how Charlotte handles the situations. Loved the cosy mystery/comedy.
An Accidental Con
Charlotte and Paige are starting over but things are . . . complicated! Wonderful characters in a small town short of younger people, well narrated by Leah Casey. I cannot wait for Volume 2!
Not a standalone–says so in ALL CAPS in the description. But, frankly, this was so delightful I didn’t care.
A lovely romance mystery. I’ve never read any books from this author so I didn’t know what to expect. It was an amazingly well put together book, the characters came to life and the storyline made sense. I highly recommend this book.
Not what I expected. But still a lovely and easy read. Sure enough I want to know where this is going in the second book!
I received an ARC for this book. I enjoyed this author Mary Frame’s past books so I was excited to received this ARC.
This story is about Charlotte trying to find a better life for herself and her younger sister, Paige. They left the life they were living with their con-artists parents. With limited funds, Charlotte finds a great opportunity in house sitting and helping set up a new age shop for Ruby while she is out of the country.
Situations happen that Charlotte takes over “temporarily” Ruby’s identity. Shes does this out of desperation and does not intend to hurt anyone. As the story evolves, this intention, of course is tested over and over. She begins to use her skills of observation to help people as they come to seek psychic readings from Ruby’s shop.
The story was easy reading, very enjoyable and humorous. I am so wrapped up in Charlotte and Paige’s life and I want them to achieve a good life in this wonderful quirky town of Castle Cove. This is the beginning of a series, so now I will be anxiously waiting the next book, “A Life Less Extraordinary”.
Short review. ARC review. Fascinating read, so many likeable characters. I feel for Charlotte who is trying to hide her and her sister from her con artist parents and give her sister a normal life. But things don’t go as plan when she takes a job house sitting for a psychic in a small town she gets mistaken for the psychic. She struggles with what to do and if what she is doing is right throughout the book, I kept going back and forth on whether or not Jared knows she’s not really Ruby and if he might know she’s on run from the parents. Yes, the book ends on a cliffhanger but I am looking forward to the second book.
