This is a great stand alone story of a retired NFL star and a single Mom. Mitch “Flash” Flashman is 35, has retired at the top of his game with 2 Super Bowl rings and two-time MVP, now finding himself helping out his older brother, Deacon, also a retired by injury football pro, coach his 2A high school football team in small town central Oregon. Mitch is at a crossroads and doesn’t know what to do with the rest of his life now that he’s not playing his beloved football anymore. One of the stand out players on the team is Simon a freshman who’s whip smart and has a smart mouth.
Becca Bragg is a widow and Mom to 14 year old Simon. She owns a Tea Shop on Main Street and bakes delicious sweets. She and Simon have been on their own for 7 years. She has the support of her cousin Nora Nielson who is like a sister, and her mother’s sister Aunt Sue and Uncle Luke. Becca is sure the new “hottie” in town Flash is full of himself but is surprised to find he’s not. She find herself helping him fend off all the single gold-diggers in town and they form an easy friendship. She helps him with the ladies and he’s keeping Simon from skipping classes mentoring Simon on how to say things respectfully. Becca has been a widow for 7 years and still struggles with letting go of her soulmate Neal. This is Ms Harte’s small town storytelling and relationships at it’s best. I find I care about Becca and Nora, Mitch and Deacon. I want Nora and Deacon’s story now, cause no character can be left behind in her story world she crafts so well.
I like the sassy independent heroine who does not fall initially at hero’s feet
Characters were very well written. Her son, Simon, was very much a freshman in high school with some of his characteristics…but yet in other areas regarding his mother, Becca, and her feelings with Mitch were very mature. I enjoyed reading this book and couldn’t keep from chuckling at some of the situations. Read through it in one sitting and it was just a happy book with little drama but a big HEA
I so enjoy reading Marie Harte’s books. They are so entertaining and I keep wanting to turn the page.
Funny tale of an ex-NFL player who must deal with life after his career in a small town with many interested women. He is drawn to helping an awkward teen and to the young man’s widowed mom whom doesn’t appear to care for his type. Fun develops.
Great characters a great story.
What a great book with an awesome story. I loved the fact that all the main characters are good people. Becca is a single mom running her own business, raising fourteen-year-old Simon that is smarter than he should be. Mitch (Flash) is a retired pro football player looking for what to do next in his life. There is lots of snarky humor, but the feelings of love for family are what make this book shine. There not a lot of angst, most are self-doubt about the future and making the right choices. Heart Touching.
It was good enough to make me want to read the next in the series.
Great story! Great characters ! Thouroughly enjoyed this book.
Great reaf
Loved this book from page one.
This book tells a great story and moves right along.
With the gridiron behind him, Mitchell makes an end run for a lovely local baker!

A really cute yet steamy second chance romance for a small business-owning single mother and the newly-retired NFL hunk who has taken up residence in her small town. Becca’s world is her son and her tea shop since her high school sweetheart husband died seven years earlier. She’s a bit prickly and scared of getting too close for fear of handsome transplant Mitch abandoning her for someone better. I liked the independent heroine but I really liked her teenage son Simon who wants his mom to get out there and love again. Mitch is a man of upstanding character and hot as Hades.
This well-written novel has humor, steam, romance, parent-child heart to hearts and some loving matchmaking manipulation at work along with some scary football moms on the prowl. But for some obvious editing misses I can’t think of anything needing improvement. A fun story with a joyful holiday climax and more than a brief nod to the deceased husband/father with a moving little twist near the end.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Love is wonderful, the second time around…4.5
Reminds me of that song. Marie Harte delivers a romantic story of possibilities. Can a widowed single mom open her heart a second time around for another chance at love and happiness?
For Becca Bragg, her world revolves around her teenage son and cafe. It’s been 7 years since her husband passed, but her heart is still bruised from the loss. So keeping busy helps keep the loneliness at bay. No man who has crossed her path has garnered a second look from Becca. Not until Mitch “Flash” Flashman comes into town.
Mitch is a retired NFL player whose brother, Deacon, coaches the high school team in Hope’s Turn. He’s been busy the past 12 years with football and moved to be closer to his brother. Now retired from the game, Mitch finds he’s at a crossroads in his life with very little to do. He’s enjoying helping Deacon coach the team but wonders what else he can do. At a chance to avoid most of the female attention in town, Becca is thrust together with Mitch. And boy, does the crackle and sizzle start quick when they’re together. Plenty of steamy goodness. As they learn more about each other, it’s clear emotions and feelings grow for one another. But Mitch doesn’t want to push Becca until she can find a way to fully let him in her heart.
Any Given Snow Day has characters you’ll love and the internal conflicts with issues about their relationship. It has humor and witty dialogue and a sigh-worthy ending. I voluntarily received and reviewed a copy of this book from the author.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I got into this book, but it was actually a really great read!
The first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t really tied to any of the author’s other universes, which I really appreciated! I also really liked the fact that this was a single mom story with an OLDER child in it! It made the story rather unique for me, despite it being a “sports” read.
Getting to the romance part of the story, my biggest problem was that Becca couldn’t let go of her deceased husband, even though she was fully aware that it was way past the time to move on from his death. She wound up making Mitch jump through a lot of hoops that he may not have needed to in order to wind up with her. While I am sure it was to inject a bit of realism to the story, it wound up growing tedious at times. I did enjoy Mitch’s dedication to her and his willingness to wind up with her in the end. I have to say, though, the ending scene with Becca and Neil’s Memory made me cry, it was that touching!
I loved Becca’s profession though! I would have loved to see more of business in the tea shop, but I did enjoy what I saw of it! Likewise, I loved Simon and Nora, and wanted to see more of those characters! I was rooting for Simon’s relationship the whole time!
I have to say this was an engaging read! I hope that Nora and Duncan wind up with a story at some point!
4.5

I look forward to reading more from this author.
If you’re a fan of small-town romance, you’ll love Hope’s Turn, Oregon, complete with memorable characters, the ultimate mean girl/football mom and a sarcastic fourteen-year-old boy who’s smarter than the adults. Becca has finally settled into life since her husband died seven years ago. She’s content to run her tea shop and raise her son, Simon, until Super Bowl star, Mitch Flashman, comes to town and shakes things up.
This author won me over with the first book in her New Veteran Movers series (you should definitely check that out!) and I plan to work my way through her contemporary romance back list. I’m a sucker for small-town romance, but add in a retired football hero and a single mom of a teen who’s too smart for his own good, and I’m absolutely on board. There’s a nice dose of humor and steam, with a poignant undercurrent that really tugs at the heart.
I adored Mitch, who is certainly not the typical bad boy player, and has a heart of gold and great sense of humor. Anyone who has siblings will appreciate his relationship with his brother Deacon. Becca was also beautifully done, and her struggle to let go of fear and embrace her future was realistic and touching. And her son, Simon? Aside from his thinking he knew everything while still managing to learn a few things, his shining moments were upstaging the adults and providing some pretty hilarious comedy. My only regret is that this wasn’t the start of a series, because I can easily see the potential for more from Hope’s Turn. There’s definitely a story with Deacon and Becca’s cousin, Nora. For a standalone it hits all the right notes, is an excellent read, and totally worth a 1-Click.

Any Given Snow Day by Marie Harte was a very fun book to read. For a change it was about the mom of a teenager rather than some sweet young thing. There was, of course, the ex-pro football player but why not? Mitch has been helping coach Becca’s son, Simon’s, high school football team. Becca is not overly impressed with him: she thinks he’s arrogant. Most of the other women in town disagree: married or not, they think he’s hot and available. They develop a friendship based on mutual need: Simon needs help and Mitch needs to get one particularly aggressive mom off his case. Things develop. Mitch is happy; Simon is happy; Becca is scared. What is going on with her? With them?
This is a very pleasant romance. Unlike many books, there are more points of reality in this story. The characters are relatable, if not stereotypical. Everyone knows a Linda Madison, cougar on the prowl, and Simon, boy needing a father. There’s the snarky sister and the brother who’s been hurt. There are a million single moms out there, some looking, some, not. Good characters, good plot. A must read if ever I saw one.
The received a free ARC of Any Given Snow Day in exchange for a fair and honest review.
If you love small town stories, and a sweet though at times heartbreaking romance , this one is the one for you. Add a wealthy former NFL player, a strong woman who became a widow too young, and a sweet and funny 14 year old boy, and you know you have a winner.
The story centers around Mitch Flashman/Flash and Becca Bragg. He’s in town to help his brother coach a HS football team and also find a purpose for his life after football. While all the moms are trying to get his attention, the snarly one with an attitude is the only one he wants. But Becca has loved once and the pain of that loss is still with her.
Will Becca let go of her fears and allow them to have their HEA? Read the book and find out !
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Any Given Snow Day was totally different from what I was expecting (in a sports-related romance) and more than I could have asked for. The excerpt online for the book intrigued me enough to decide to read and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
From the start, like page one, it made me laugh-snort. The heroine, Becca Bragg, is witnessing grown women trying to catch the eye of our hero, “Ex-NFL star” Mitch “Flash” Flashman, while he is helping his brother’s high school football team. Let’s say that she has an opinion of how these women are acting and has a compadre in snark crime, her cousin Nora. Annnnnnnnddddddd she is not at all impressed by Mitch, thinking he’s just another famous ex-jock and jerk. Since I was sorta expecting that as well, I am happy to say we were both wrong.
I loved Mitch’s character. He was really a lost soul, at this point in his life, but he is loyal and real. His relationship with his brother, Deacon? Hilarious. I’d call him an all-around good guy. He takes it upon himself – well, maybe with a bit of pushing by his brother – to try to mentor one of the boys on the team, Simon…who also happens to be Becca’s son. I really liked how Mitch didn’t talk down to Simon, or use him to get close to his “prickly” mom, and thoroughly enjoyed watching these three work out life, to really become a…team. And yes, Becca is prickly! She’s been alone a long time but still grieves for her deceased husband, well, just a bit. Loved how the author wrote her character as complicated and conflicted…and how Mitch’s character helped to break thru her barriers. And let’s not forget those grown women/mean girls from that first scene…
Simon is a character – he even gets to play matchmaker for his mom. And if she ever finds out, she is gonna smack him! Fun story, I really liked it, and it made my evening.
