It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Marie Harte and with Any Given Snow Day she’s given me another favourite, will definitely be read again story!
As you would expect with a book from Ms Harte, there was humour, an great story, good character development and a lot of heat! Read in a day, I could hardly put my kindle down.
I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Becca and Mitch and Simon, Becca’s son was a sweetie. He seemed to know before his mum that Mitch was interested in her as more than just a friend and he was worried that his mom would never move on from the loss of his dad, even though it had been years now that had passed.
Mitch was nothing like Becca (or I) expected and they were both really good for each other, I was rooting for her to realise she needed to get on with living her life and things to work out for her and Mitch.
With a great cast of supporting characters Any Given Snow Day was an entertaining and engaging read and one I’d definitely recommend you check out.
Hopefully there’ll be more visits to Hope’s Crossing to come.
A very enjoyable, feel good, seasonal flavoured read with interesting, likeable and more importantly, believable characters.
Life decisions to be made, romance to be pursued with a widow and her teenage son.
I loved how Mitch related to Simon as a separate person and kept him part of but separate of his romance with Becca.
All the additional characters in this story were enjoyable, apart from some certain women.
Will be happy to read the next book if there is one.
I have re-read this as Ms Harte has made a series with these lovely characters.
I first gave an honest review of this book but I have now bought it and enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
This is a fun, sexy and very real life kind of romance. I absolutely love these characters and their wit, sarcasm and easy banter. Mitch and Becca are great together and you love them more with Becca’s 14-year old son, Simon, Becca’s cousin Nora and Mitch’s brother Deacon. The sense of family and unconditional love that is obvious with their interactions is special and endearing.
The loss of Becca’s husband is a sensative topic. The acceptance and understanding from Simon in regards to his dad is tenderly written and the way Becca comes to terms with moving forward with Mitch is emotional and realistic. Ms. Harte handles this dynamic with care and sympathy.
The struggles that Mitch experiences after playing professional football is surprising to me. It never dawned on me that someone could be so lost as to what makes them happy and is fulfilling. It is a journey and an awakening that I found to be inspiring.
I totally recommend this beautifully written romance that takes place in a small gossipy town through the holiday season.
A wonderful feel-good story perfect for the holidays!
Becka Bragg could be your friend next door – single mom raising her now 14-year-old son on her own. But she’s way more than that. She’s a young widow trying to make ends meet while running her own business. She does have her cousin Nora who’s as close as a sister (who is so full of spunk and is hilarious) to help keep her going. Becka has a busy, full life raising her son, Simon, and running her business which doesn’t leave time for much else.
Mitch Flashman has left the NFL having won two Super Bowls and has followed his brother’s footsteps to a small town in Oregon. His brother, Deacon, coaches the local high school football team and Mitch has stepped up to help out with the team. Simon is one of the students on the team. This is how Mitch and Becka meet.
And let me add here that Simon, Nora and Deacon make GREAT supporting characters! They really add humor and depth to the story. Simon, in particular, shows wisdom beyond his years.
The dynamics between Becka and Mitch are enjoyable to watch unfold. Unlike other women in the community, Becka is not impressed by Mitch’s NFL history nor his bank account. She’s very cautious in whom she chooses to date and, although it’s been 7 years since her husband’s death, she’s not dated that much since and when she finally accepts Mitch’s invitation to get together, she proceeds cautiously…at first.
Mitch finds Becka a refreshing change from so many of the women he’s dated and the women in town who blatantly chase him. That’s part of the attraction. She doesn’t seem overly impressed by him, nor his wealth. She’s also very dedicated to her son and yet can stand on her own two feet; she’s not looking for a handout. Now Mitch just needs to get Becka to see him for who he really is.
The characters felt very genuine, and I admired how strong Becka was – very sure of herself even as she deals with all that she has on her plate. And when the sparks begin to fly between them, it is Becka who takes the first step. Mitch is in awe of her sexy self-assuredness in and out of the bedroom!
Mitch’s character shows that even if you’ve literally been at the top of your game in one profession, there can be an adjustment in figuring out what you’re going to do when that part of your life is over. There’s some very poignant moments where Mitch and Becka have such honest discussions about their lives – Mitch, trying to decide what he should do next in his life and Becka, still struggling on some levels with the grief over losing her husband.
It is in watching both characters face these challenges that the reader is drawn into the story. Add in the great supporting characters, the sexy times for Becka and Mitch and the holiday season – it all adds up to a winning story!
If you want a feel-good holiday story with down-to-earth relatable people then this is the book for you! The laugh out loud moments are plentiful along with the constant smiles at the snarky nature of these wonderful characters. This is an endearing story that will catch your interest from the first page and keep you enthralled in the unfolding romance until the very end. The love of family and sense of obligation and duty is strong throughout the entire read and the easy banter and wit keeps the story flowing seamlessly combining family situations and struggles that let you easily connect to the characters. Becka and Mitch are great together and there are just no words for her son, Simon. He is a 14-year old wonder. The thoughts constantly running through his mind and situations he puts poor Mitch in are funny and charming. You can tell he really loves his mom and is looking out for her. For a wholesome, heartwarming story this was a touchdown. Make sure to add Any Given Snow Day to your holiday read list. You will not be disappointed.
