#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Debbie Macomber returns with a powerful standalone novel about a woman forced to start her life anew, embarking on the most courageous journey of all—to a place where she learns what love and trust really mean. Shay Benson adored her younger brother, Caden, and that got her into trouble. When he owed money, Shay realized she would do anything to help him avoid the … anything to help him avoid the men who were threatening him, and she crossed lines she never should have crossed. Now, determined to start fresh, she finds herself in search of a place to stay and wanders into a church to escape from the cold.
Pastor Drew Douglas adored his wife. But when he lost her, it was all he could do to focus on his two beautiful kids, and his flock came in a distant third. Now, as he too is thinking about a fresh start, he walks through his sanctuary and finds Shay sitting in a pew.
The pair strike up a friendship—Drew helps Shay get back on her feet, and she reignites his sense of purpose—that, over time, turns into something deeper, something soulful, spiritual, and possibly romantic. Even Drew’s two children are taken with this woman who has brought light back into their lives. Perhaps most important, Shay learns to trust again as she, in turn, proves herself trustworthy to her adopted community.
But Caden’s return to town and a disastrous secret threaten to undo the life Shay has tried so hard to rebuild. It will take the utmost courage and faith if she and Drew hope to find healing and open their hearts to a brighter future.

She is one of my favorite authors, I really enjoy everything she writes. Read this book in 2 days.
Can’t go wrong with this author, always a good read and never offensive. Good Christian morality.
Great plot and good story.
Great book
I took this as audiobook for long drive. I’d skimmed the summary as I’m a therapist and am careful about what I read; don’t need to replicate what I hear in a therapy session. What I NEVER expected was to listen to a story that replicates my current personal life ~ in a new relationship with a pastor; the focus to build this relationship well from the experiences we both have had; to ask myself hard questions about being a pastor’s wife, and to hear in Drews’ chapters some of the same words & thoughts my guy has expressed to me. We both have different histories than Shay & Drew, but the story of their growth as individuals & love story was affirming, encouraging, and real! I loved this book as it touched me right where I am!
In typical Macomber style, you get a good read from this story but I found I wasn’t as in love with this book as others I’ve read. Having gotten use to flying through her novels without losing much interest, I was a tad bit disappointed. I liked the relationship development between Drew, Shay, and the children however but it seemed to lack in someway I can’t quite pinpoint. Overall it was a nice story but not anything I’d recommend when suggesting a Macomber novel.
Debbie wove an emotional tale that you flow along with as the characters story unwinds. It is a must-read for all Debbie Macomber fans.
A wonderful story of redemption and second chances. Debbie Macomber has done a great job of bringing us realistic characters who will touch your heart. Fast-paced and full of tender moments. A widowed pastor with two young children gets a new spark when he meets and counsels Shay. Touching and tender. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
I gave 2 stars for the story line, but the writing was stodgy, repetitive, and boring. It was all “tell, don’t show!” I said… I thought… He did… This was a real disappointment.
The ending…….it was not what I expected.
Have reading all her books for as long as I remember!
Love Debbie McCombre

I love Debbie Macomber’s books. They are such wonderful heartwarming stories.
I love all of Debbie Macomber’s books. The series keep you wanting more and hating to have to wait for the next installment. The stand-alones are always worth it. And the best things is— good clean reading – no cussing, gratuitous sex, etc.
I really liked this book. I felt so sad for Shay and the things she went through. I was glad she met Pastor Drew and his two children. Shay deserved a second chance and this is definitely what this book was about.
Romance readers will love this book just like all this authors books. Always know they will be a good read.
Debbie Macomber has done it again. What an awesome and inspirational book.
I’m having trouble putting into words how I feel after reading this book. It’s a story about new beginnings and God’s love for us all. She is a phenomenal writer of women’s fiction.
