3.5 star from me.
I liked this but didn’t love it, it didn’t fully capture me but deffinently worth the read has everyone is different.
this book was really great! a little strange for me. they been friends for years. now he sees her with blood on herself and being thrown out. now she is back and he wants her but the laws dont permit it. read to find out what happens.
I have been waiting a long time to read this book, but I knew it was going to be one that I needed to take my time with. It is dark and disturbing at times but once I finished I was so pleased that I read it. It makes the reader think and maybe cringe just a bit, it also absorbs the reader and places you right into the story to the point where you will feel captured and included in the story.
This author knows how to write and I was surprised at how much I felt a part of the plot, involved with the characters. I was fighting and loving right along with them. I did have to take a few breaks because there are parts of this story that are heavy, but it is so worth the read.
The characters are well defined and realistic. I both loved them but don’t want to meet them in an ally at night, if you get what I am saying, LOL. I enjoyed the connection the two main characters had with each other, it was different but it worked so well for them. I highly recommend this book and thin that others will enjoy it, just know there are a bunch of triggers that need to be heeded before jumping in!
Wow.
Can anyone say Stockholm syndrome to the extreme. This is a book that takes abuses to a new level. The writing is great and detailed. Well done but not for everyone
OMG what a book
This was an exceptional read. It has a twisted plot that involves abuse, brainwashing and violence but it’s all so believable as its centred within a religious cult. Amazing characters and overall gripping read. I definitely recommend
Knowing no other way Zebadiah and Laurel Ann live a sheltered and deeply religous life that to them is normal. It’s the Philistines who live beyond their gates that have it wrong by worshipping their false gods instead of the one true Zaaron. Laurel Ann is cast out for disobeying The Prophet, her husband at thirteen. Punished by having to live in a world of sin can she stay pure?
A chance encounter twelve years later with Zebadiah is her saving grace. He offers her forgiveness and a way back to Zaaron. Their connection is still as strong as when they were kids, if anything it’s grown over the years. Thier blind faith in Zaaron and The Prophet ,who is now Zebadiah, is natural and never to be questioned. She wants more than anything to be cleansed of her sins and welcomed back into the gates of the anointed but will it be enough?
It’s an emotional whirlwind of an adventure. The characters have such depth, and being able to feel their struggle to live up to Zaaron’s rules connected me to them in a real way. It has it’s dark moments but they just add a realness to the story. The passion between Zebadiah and Laurel Ann burns bright and with each brush of skin sparks fly. The temptation of their flesh is hardest sin to fight, they give in to the pleasure and know that nothing has ever felt more right. There are so many layers to this story and it unravels in such a beautiful way. I was hooked from the start and never wanted it to end. It’s so much more than a cult story, it’s about survival, perseverance, and an emotional journey taking you to places you never saw coming. I got lost in the pages of this book. The world was created in a way that I truly felt the weight of living under Zaaron’s hand.
I honestly don’t even know how to begin this review. This book is the type that will stay with you long after your finished with it. This is a book of a love that runs so deep and shows that you can’t always help whom you fall in love with. The book has become one of my favorites of 2018 and there haven’t been many. I can’t wait to read what she had in store for us next.
I’ve read this one twice…I initially thought it was going to have a dystopian twist, but no…it’s full on demand of one man having power and totally cultish. My second read through allowed me to grasp what all of the children were going through as children, and as adults. I love how the main characters work together….puppy love as children, willing to keep secrets when she becomes a woman (her period)…..to so many years later when she’s lived in the forbidden world and brought back. Truly kicking on the rightness of Zeb having the law contacted and having the cult taken down after he learned that it was all a lie. Not trying to give away spoilers so all I’m going to add is if you like a freaky romance, this is your book! Enjoy!
A new standalone book taking place in a cult.
I am not going to say anything about the story because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I loved this book. I got sucked into the story from the first to the last page.
It is an amazing and very intense read and it gave me goosebumps while reading. Charity B. created an amazing and very detailed world of the Antoined, it was creepy.
You won’t regret reading this book if you love dark.
Just like my creepy interest in serial killers (shout out to Joe Goldberg!), I also share a creepy interest in cults. How people get brainwashed, how they are willing to sacrifice their children to the cause; it’s all so intriguing.
Anointed is one such book. Our Hero and Heroine are Zebadiah and Laurel Ann, both children living in this polygamous cult. It’s very similar to the FDLS, in that there is a “Prophet” who speaks directly to their god, forcing young girls to be “wives” before the age of consent, and they eschew technology or anyone outside their cult.
Parts of Zeb and Laur’s story was so hard to read; so painful. The author did a great job at facing the darkness head on. Despite it’s darkness, I was addicted. I couldn’t stop reading; I had to know how it ended.
It was so hard to like the characters. Zeb was at times brutal and uncaring, while Laur was naive and foolish. Anointed was a whirlwind of emotions that I couldn’t control. I don’t know how Charity B. did it, but I got so invested in these characters and their lives. Highly recommended.
This book is not your normal book, beware this is a book about the cult world. With that said I really loved this story the writing was so good, the way the story is written has me in awe. Loved the way some of the characters are bad and super evil. And how how even some of the main characters you want to strangle sometimes for their actions. There will be times you want to cry and just scream at the characters in the book other times you want to laugh and feel their love and pain.
This is a story about a young girl and young boy who are raised in the world of the anointed and are told since birth everyone living outside their land are evil and are heathens. They are raised to get married once the young girls get their first period and they don’t get to choose to who they marry or at what age. In this story we learn about Laurel Ann and Zebediah. How they’re world will turn upside down. How they handle everything that is thrown their way. There are plenty of other characters in the book you get to meet. Some of them are funny and others you will feel their pain I don’t want to give away anything about this story. It’s a must read I highly recommend it to anyone who loves dark romances it’s so good. 5 star review.
A heartbreaking conflict of conscience and faith!
This is a fascinating love story set against the back drop of religious fanaticism and tells the story of Zeb and Laur who whose relationship is in direct conflict with their faith. I was intrigued but very conflicted by this story. I had to keep reminding myself these characters were raised in a religious environment that dictated every aspect of their lives. It was just so difficult to fathom and had me very deep in thought. Given the same circumstances would I choose faith or heart? I would hope that my heart and my conscience would win out but given the extremism at play, I understood the characters choices and the difficulty they had coming to terms with them.
Although this story wasn’t exactly what I expected, I was invested throughout. I can’t say the characters were exactly relateable but given the circumstances, I felt as though I understood them well. My biggest wish was to have more from them after the fall, after their conscience rammed into their faith leaving both in rubble. To me that would have been the bigger story. Who knows maybe it’s a story yet to be told.
This book was sooooooo good! I went in blind, just going by one of my favorite author’s reviews, and it turned out to just fanstatic. I mean I really got into this book, finished in a day! The ending of this book blew my mind, wasn’t expecting it!
