An unforgettable character beloved by generations of readers Redheaded orphan Anne Shirley longs for a real home, somewhere she can truly belong. When she first arrives at the Green Gables house on Prince Edward Island, it’s everything she ever imagined. But to stay, she’ll first have to convince Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert to adopt her. And that means controlling her temper (even when Gilbert … Gilbert Blythe calls her “Carrots”), staying out of trouble (and away from hair dye), and not getting too carried away with her daydreams (though she would make the perfect Lady of Shallot floating down the river). Anne might not always get it quite right, but she does keep things interesting…
Through Anne’s eyes, the ordinary world becomes magical and every day is an adventure. She inspires the dreamer in all of us, never hesitates to say the things we wish we could get away with, and makes us cherish every kindred spirit we meet. It’s no surprise Anne is loved around the world by generations of readers.
This new edition lovingly restores the original, unabridged text and includes an all-new, exclusive introduction with special memories from L.M. Montgomery’s granddaughter.

This is the book that changed my life. Read it at any age and I promise you an enchanting experience and a life-long relationship with Anne with an e.
Family is family, traditional or not
I had seen the show and wanted to read the book. I’m glad I have it to read over again.
As always, re-reading this book was fun. It is interesting that now as I am likely older than Anne’s guardians I have a new perspective!
Anne of Green Gables is as wonderful now as when I was in elementary school! The characters are well developed and grow throughout the story. I recommend this book for ALL children (10+) and every parent/grand parent!
This series is one of my all-time favorites.
Excellent family read. Should be required book for every sixth grader.
It’s a great book for readers of all ages
One of my favorites. A great book for any age.
There’s a reason Anne has been popular for more than 100 years! You are immediately drawn into Anne’s world and begin cheering for her.
First time that I hav e read this classic. Wonderful characters and an enchanting story.
One of the wonderful classics I skimmed through in high school just enough to pass the test. I particularly enjoyed this book since my mom was an orphan in this same time period and had a similar personality to Anne. I felt as though I could have been reading her autobiography. I can’t wait to read the sequel.
I enjoyed the character of Anne. She was the book.
Brought back happy Memories. You will enjoy too.
One of my all time favorite stories <3
always reread it every couple years. Love it
I read Anne of Green Gables years ago when I was in the 6th grade. I’m 64 years old and I recently reread it. I love this book, Times were simpler and people civil, even when disagreeing. Anne is such a fire cracker and an optimist. I wish more people would look at situations with a glass half full attitude and a more open mind.
I don’t know if young people these days could relate to Anne and her life. It may seem much distant and unrealistic given today’s Values.
A very entertaining story to the last word.
How did I miss this one as a child? I do remember seeing a version on TV, but it was great to read it. I enjoyed it very much!
I have read this book many times and have seen the PBS movie with Megan Fellowes which is very true to the original book. Truly a good story and the whole series is definitely worth reading.
