An unforgettable character beloved by generations of readers Redheaded orphan Anne Shirley longs for a real home, somewhere she can truly belong. When she first arrives at the Green Gables house on Prince Edward Island, it’s everything she ever imagined. But to stay, she’ll first have to convince Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert to adopt her. And that means controlling her temper (even when Gilbert … Gilbert Blythe calls her “Carrots”), staying out of trouble (and away from hair dye), and not getting too carried away with her daydreams (though she would make the perfect Lady of Shallot floating down the river). Anne might not always get it quite right, but she does keep things interesting…
Through Anne’s eyes, the ordinary world becomes magical and every day is an adventure. She inspires the dreamer in all of us, never hesitates to say the things we wish we could get away with, and makes us cherish every kindred spirit we meet. It’s no surprise Anne is loved around the world by generations of readers.
This new edition lovingly restores the original, unabridged text and includes an all-new, exclusive introduction with special memories from L.M. Montgomery’s granddaughter.

While it was a good story, I thought it could have been more concise. The story seemed long and drawn out to me.
It’s a classic; how can you go wrong ?
Don’t know how I missed this classic until now, but really enjoyed it!
As a parent of adopted children I found this book a heart warming story of the love of these children for their adoptive parents and the love of their parents to their new daughter. This relationship is developed in a witty way with humor and challenges. The success of the relationship is mutual. I loved this story.
Just read it after watching PBS 100 Best Novels. Trying to work my way through the list. Sweet story about an orphan growing up with an elderly brother and sister (not hers) who took her in. She worms her way into their hearts.
A classic I will always enjoy, more so as an adult.
A classic! Read at any time of life.
I read this again. Such a good story. Great for young people to read.
I will possibly finish this one day just to say that I did. I never read this as a child or teenager, But Anne is so dramatic – I can hardly get through the early pages. It’s almost smothering, but I will try to press through it.
One of my all time favorite stories! My youngest daughter is even named Anne (with an E) because I wanted her to be as smart, funny, witty, and brave as Anne!
A classic! Wonderful book, ought to be on every 12-ya bookshelf.
A classic! Such memorable characters and setting.
Read this because I never had, and it’s one that always comes up in conversation. I really enjoyed this read and how the author brought Anne to life. I smiled many times throughout the book. Would recommend it to young girls as well as adults who missed it like me.
A clasic.
This is a great story that every young woman should read.
Had forgotten this Youth Novel. Still worth reading

She is a great character. I know this is a classic and now I know why.
Enjoyed . Love books about previous generations
I recently re-read this book. It was just as entertaining to read as an adult, as it was when i was a kid. I love this series of books.
