An unforgettable character beloved by generations of readers Redheaded orphan Anne Shirley longs for a real home, somewhere she can truly belong. When she first arrives at the Green Gables house on Prince Edward Island, it’s everything she ever imagined. But to stay, she’ll first have to convince Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert to adopt her. And that means controlling her temper (even when Gilbert … Gilbert Blythe calls her “Carrots”), staying out of trouble (and away from hair dye), and not getting too carried away with her daydreams (though she would make the perfect Lady of Shallot floating down the river). Anne might not always get it quite right, but she does keep things interesting…
Through Anne’s eyes, the ordinary world becomes magical and every day is an adventure. She inspires the dreamer in all of us, never hesitates to say the things we wish we could get away with, and makes us cherish every kindred spirit we meet. It’s no surprise Anne is loved around the world by generations of readers.
This new edition lovingly restores the original, unabridged text and includes an all-new, exclusive introduction with special memories from L.M. Montgomery’s granddaughter.

Re-reading this book after 50 years was much like meeting an old school friend I had not seen in 50 yrs. I loved Anne Shirley and her indomitable spirit. Life had not been good to her, but she found a way to cope and still managed to attract friends and people to truly love her.
It was fun reading about some of her picadillo’s she got into again and the fact that she reminded me that at times it is best just to apologize and move on with life rather than let anger simmer and a misunderstanding grow into a lifetime of hate.
My suggestion is to take a relaxing afternoon and enjoy the life of this engaging orphan that will make even the crustiest person fall in love with her.
I read it so long ago, I don’t remember much about it. I’m just not interested in reading it again a this time.
A classic that is just as enjoyable now as when it was written. I’ve read the entire series and loved every minute of it.
Anne is an adorable child. A fun read!
L.M. Montgomery was a wonderful writer.
Enid blyton in a longer version
I read the entire series long before e-books were even a possibility. I love Anne and her “attitude” that keeps her from getting hurt (or at least she hopes it does).
Read and reread many times. First time as a ten year old and last time as a senior citizen. Will surely read it again. Anne Shirley is a delightful character who will take the reader on a journey of laughter, tears, and imagination.
Wonderful Classic
This is one of my all-time favorite books! I have read it over and over.
I read it as a child; it was one of my great favorites.
Great classic!
Absolutely love Anne of Green Gables. Till the day I die and beyond
Like so many other people, the characters in this book captured my heart! Anne (with an ‘e’ on the end) had an incredible soul. Her constant appreciation and joyous perception of the world is an example for everybody! This is the kind of book I love to read.
One of the best children’s book ever written. Anne is a wonderful girl with a great sense of humor.
An oldie but very goodie
Perhaps one of my favourite reads of all time. Decades later I still love “that Anne Girl”.
I love this book! The characters have become like a part of my family after having read it many times since I was very young. Beautiful.
Sweet books good read for all ages
I thought I had red Anne about 75 years ago, but I sure didn’t remember any of it — and Anne just pulled me along, Loved it – and so will you I bet.
