Some people think that it is imperative to read The Communist Manifesto to understand the full significance of Animal Farm. Parallels can also be drawn between Animal Farm and 1984. I believe the book, Animal Farm, has its own merits even if read in a vacuum.
Here is the premise that simplifies the concept that held Animal Farm and The Communist …

Another must-read for all young adults, revealing the dangers of an “everyone is equal and so they deserve equal shares regardless of effort.” One of my favorite lines of all time is in this book; “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” The purpose of this line and its delivery are arguably perfect, and the impact of …

A brilliant political commentary on the risks to a revolutionary egalitarian society of becoming tyrannical, because of selfishness and misuse of power.

The question was what was the strangest book you ever enjoyed. The use of farm animals to explain government politics is pure genius. It reduced the subject to a common denominator that could be understood by just about anyone. It was written over 50 years ago and is just as relevant now as it was then. A true classic.

An allegorical novella by George Orwell, Animal Farm on its surface is a story about a group of animals who rebel against their tyrannical human farmer in the hope of creating a society of equality, freedom, and happiness. Ultimately, though, the rebellion, led by a ruthless dictatorial pig called Napoleon, backfires as the animals end up in much …

1984 is possibly my favourite book ever, reread several times, yet I had never gotten around to ANIMAL FARM. Did I subconsciously fear it would not live up to 1984 or that it would be too similar? I don’t know. Of course, it’s just as brilliant!
Although I had a bit of a problem with the names at the beginning, remembering who was who, the …

I remember that when I was little, I saw a cartoon of the animal farm. I do not remember much about it, but I do remember that the film was stressful (for a little girl), that the animation was not Disney-friendly kind of animation and that I felt there was more to it than it was.
Now that I have read the book, I can only say that the film did …

Animal Farm is one of the twentieth century’s most influential books. Although it is often read as an attack on Soviet Communism, it is much more than that: a critique of modern politics generally, in which a select group of politicians, or union leaders, or evangelists rise to power by exploiting the hopes and dreams of common people (and …

This is an allegory about totalitarianism, or Soviet-style socialism, using farm animals as the protagonists; I read more than twenty years ago, it is a small book so it was a fast read, I found it interesting and original, I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in thought-provoking ideas.

Animal Farm is a timeless classic filled with wit, depth, and a succinct ability to strike at the heart of the matter. This is one of those books I first read in school and have thoroughly enjoyed rereading throughout the years. Orwell’s portrayal of life on the manor farm and it’s parallels to communism is so cleverly constructed. Animal Farm …

Now a classic in English literature, its anti-Communism and anti-Sovietism is a little out of time. An inventive satire with memorable passages and lines: “Four legs good, two legs bad.” (I always wondered where birds stood in this!) The farm becomes a disaster and somewhat anti-animal, but you could write about that then. Today, I think he …

The term “Orwellian” is thrown around so often in our culture today, but I do not think it is overused. This book is an amazing read and it is astounding that Mr. Orwell could so accurately predict where human nature led.
