Angry God is the last book of the All Saints High series, a spinoff from my favorite Sinners of Saints series. I was so excited and SCARED to approach this book because it’s about Vicious and Emilia’s son, Vaughn Spencer, and I didn’t want anything tarnishing my love for them. I was praying Ms Shen would do Vaughn justice, but I feel this book has not delivered what I expected . The best parts of the book are all Vicious’ scenes, which at least satisfied my crave for their family interactions.
Vaughn grew up in a loving family, but his innocent childhood was taken away from him, leaving him perpetually angry and ruthless. Lenora was struggling growing up after losing her mother and trying to live up to her father’s expectations. They had so much potential together, but I feel that too much hatred and angst overshadowed their love. Most of their interactions were about anger and revenge, although a couple secret gestures from Vaughn did melt my heart. I just wish there were more chemistry and understanding, less dramas in the beginning and more focusing on their relationship development.
That being said, the first half of the book was quite dragging with over the top and unnecessary high school dramas and bullying (and blow jobs!!!). Sometimes reading YA novels with this type of dramas make me worry about our future generations . The second half picked up the pace much faster and it was more enjoyable. The overall plot is quite similar to Vicious’, but unfortunately it could not reach that level .
On the bright side, the writing is true LJ Shen’s style from her original beloved series, with witty humor, great inner monologues reflecting each character’s feelings, and I did enjoy it a lot more than her last book In The Unlikely Event. I feel heartbroken for Vaughn, and in extension for Vicious and Emilia. I can feel Vaughn’s respect and love for his parents, and Vic’s fierce protection for his family made me love him even more than before . Lenora is not the strongest heroine, but she did her best to stand her ground and learn to protect herself. Overall, it is such a pity that this series is far behind from the original one. Perhaps it is time to move on to the next world with brand new characters !
A solid 4- for me!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Vaughn Spencer. They call him an angry god. To me, he is nothing but a heartless prince. His parents rule this town, its police, ever citizen and boutique on Main Street. If you have read the previous books in this series, I am sure that you are like me and have been extra super curious about Vaughn. I can not tell you how freaking excited I was to get this book in my hands and it did not disappoint. I think it was so much more than I expected and I loved being in the head of the super dark and delicious Vaughn. I too loved Lenora and they together have one mind blowing crazy adventure from the past to the present and into the future. This book is full of angst too and I loved every single second of it and never ever wanted it to end. You know the author is absolutely amazing when they can make you fall in love with the baddest of all the boys.
#1 bestselling book on Amazon!
Angry God is live and free with Kindle Unlimited! This book is a dark, standalone bully romance. Recommended for readers 18+. If you love a good bully romance, look no further.
Vaughn and Lenora’s story is well written, sweet in moments, and beyond anything I thought I’d see in the end of the Todos Santos All-Saints High series!
There were many times I wanted to scratch Alice and Arabella’s eyes out, it’s amazing how Shen can take you back to high school and abandon you there.
I love Lenny and always have, the way she gives zero fu@k$ and gives back as good as she is dealt is a testimony to her inner strength and intelligence.
Vaughn made me want to kill him one minute, and hug him the next. Knowing what he went through doesn’t excuse behavior, but it does explain it.
A brilliant end to one of the best series I’ve read in the last 5 years. LJ Shen’s respect and love for her characters comes shining through, and I absolutely trusted her to give Vaughn and Lenora the ending they deserved.
This is a very hard book to review. This author is extraordinarily talented. Her writing has a special uniqueness and I’m always excited to read her stories. But something about this story didn’t mesh with me. I did not feel the connection between the two main characters, Vaughn and Lenora. I felt the hate loud and clear but I didn’t feel the underlying love that I wanted to draw these two together. I will admit that for 3/4 of the book, I was slightly indifferent.
I was disappointed that the first half of the book revolved in high school. And I must say, the drama that went on was really hard to believe at times. But it was fiction I was dealing with so I went with the flow. It was all mean girls, mean boy, lots “bj” talk and show. And when the story moved to England, it still didn’t progress as I had hoped. Drama followed them there!! I felt that both Vaughn and Lenny were never really true to themselves during the story. I needed to hear more about the love that was supposedly lying dormant. And all I thought about was that Hate and love walk a very fine line but when the hate is vindictive, malicious and nasty, the love is hard to see and believe.
I kept waiting but it wasn’t till the end that I finally felt a connection and enjoyed the story. I loved Vicious and Emilia, the letter and then the ending which made me feel better about the book. But overall, the book was just okay for me.
Not every story is for everybody. There are many wonderful reviews who loved the story. I’m sure it’s a case of me(too old for this story) and not the book.
Whoa. Wow. Ok. Where do I even start with this one.
First and foremost, I appreciate Leigh’s candidness regarding trigger warnings in her books. By putting a warning on a book, you are immediately on edge knowing something is going to happen. As a reader, you anticipate the storyline a little bit without reading and enjoying in the present. With that said, all I can reiterate is whoa, wow, ok!
I have conflicting angel and devil on my shoulders regarding Angry God. Baron ‘Vicious’ Spencer is a formidable man, which made me super excited to read about Vaughn. Was Vicious Junior as bad as his father or did he exceed him? I think it’s safe to say in this standpoint, ‘like father, like son’.
Vaughn is highly complicated and for the first half of the book you could tell that the boy had issues. The only relationship not complicated was with Vaughn and Emilia. He was a momma’s boy and it was sweet to see this relationship. Vaughn also had a good relationship with his father, since they were of the same temperament.
Lenora (Len/Lenny) was a unique character. She always wanted to be the person that didn’t stand out. She wanted to simply fade into the walls and hope people would forget her. Too bad that wasn’t going to be the case after meeting Vaughn. In the beginning of the book, Len was a little mousy for me. She hadn’t had an easy childhood either, but I wasn’t extremely fond of her. When she went back to Carlisle Prep, she emerged as a different person. I loved it. She stood her ground and didn’t let anyone push her around. She had found her voice!
Despite being told in dual POV, I feel like it mostly is Vaughn’s book and journey to redemption and revenge. Can baby Vicious rebuild a heart that is black and rotten to its core? Can Len heal not only herself, but that wasteland where feelings should be in Vaughn? I recommend this book but will also say it may not be for everyone. So, if you’re feeling adventurous and have your mind and heart open to a wide array of feelings and emotions, then this book is for you.
The end! OMG what an amazing way to finish this serie and world of Todos Santos!
Angry God was everything…Vicious has been my favorite always and now Vaughn it’s righ there with his father.
Lennora is a brilliant heroine, she strong, a good sister and I felt identified with her in more than one occasion. Vaughn was so conflicted and I new there was a reason for that and he did everything to move on and get revenge for himself.
I’m so sad to say goodbye to this characters but at the same time so greatfull that I was able to know them, love them, laught and cry alongside with them.
Thank you L.J Shen for sharing this books with us! You are the best!!!
Where do I even begin with this review
What an emotional rollercoaster of a ride , I’m still feeling a little dazed if I’m honest …
Vaughn you made my heart ache more than any other boy ,
But in the best possible way…
I’m obsessed with angry god…
It was EVERYTHING and not a story I will ever forget,
I forgot the world whilst reading it..
No I mean I really forgot the world,
As a blogger/bookstagrammer your online everyday talking /posting but I didn’t come online for 48hrs .. I needed that time to devour and then replay it all in my head over and over again…( not often that happens and I read a tonne on books)
Even now whilst writing my review I’m still stuck in this world and my chest is achy and full at the same time..
I’m sorry I’ve been absent in the book world for 2 days, but Angry God was worth every minute lost..
Amazing
Brilliant
Achingly beautiful …
ALL the STARS
Vaughn Spencer was an angry boy. The literally copy carbon of Infamous Baron ‘Vicious’ Spencer.
Vaughn was not the easiest person to love or trying to figure for himself. A Young boy who hates everything on sight.. including Lenora… my fiesty girl… My GoodGirl who love sweet and Brownie. The overall vibes were heavy and complicated. Who would of thought of anger can do so much? I was drawn into hate to love romance. Lenora didnt made it easy for sure. The story was laid out with mixture of emotions.
The evolution of young boy who found his voice and falling in love.
It was very intense and sickening plot-twist. I have enjoyed it the wild ride… after all.. its Vicious Junior
Get ready for one the VERY BEST book hangovers for one of the most phenomenally talented authors of this day and time!!!!! LJ Shen is just brilliant!!!! Angry God is just as brilliant and beautiful as L.J. Shen!!!! You’ll love the book hangover you get from reading this phenomenal book!!!
What a story! I will try to do this book justice with this review, but It’s so hard to do without spoilers. I remember thinking towards the beginning of this book that I’ve read a lot of cold and detached characters but this guy takes the cake. But as you get further into this story and start to understand Vaughn and think about who is dad is and who he learned from and you really start to identify with him and can’t help but love him. I finished this book almost 24 hours ago and I’m still thinking about it.
You know when you love an author so much that you unconsciously decide that you are gonna love every book by that author no matter what? I have a very good friend that’s an author and I feel that way about her work BUT I can assure you that if I found a single thing wrong or something I didn’t like I would tell her and she would take that constructive criticism and thank me for it. I feel like many people will love this book for that very reason and to me that is a disservice to the author. I guess it’s a good thing reading is subjective and this story totally worked for some but it didn’t for me and left me disappointed and feeling slightly bereft for the characters that I had grown to love from Todos Santos.
If not for the last 40% of the book this would have totally gotten 2 stars from me. The first 50% I spent dozing off, playing candy crush and watching tv which I never do. It was toooo wordy, the plot was lost and I didn’t connect with either character. I also felt it was very immature. How many times can you talk about a “blowie” and get one in public! It was completely overdone in my honest opinion. I think she was trying too hard to make this final book a winner and it fell so flat for me.
I had been looking forward to Vaughn’s story since I found out she was writing books about the Hot Holes children. I read PR and BK and they were so well done that I knew it would only be ramped up to nuclear status with the broody black hearted Vaughn.
Vaughn, was a different child from birth, he is after all, Vicious’ son! He experienced something very traumatic for years at the hand of a sadistic dude, whom his mom held in high regard. When he got old enough his vision was blurred by revenge. If you have read Penelope Douglas Kill Switch, you will totally think that Vaughn and Damon are brothers! It was scary the similarities!!!
He met Lenora Astalis when they were 7&8 on the beaches of South France, their parents ran in the same circle. They had a connection instantly. They met again when they were 12&13 at the Carlisle Castle Academy that Edgar Astalis, her father, had started with his cousin Harry. This is where things take a dark turn. Then when Lenny comes to California to attend her senior year with Vaughn at his school.
The level of pettiness with these folks was nuts! It made what Vicious and his cronies did look like child’s play! Vaughn was brilliant and smart but he was a heartless prick. It isn’t until later on in the book that we find out that he is in fact a human and has a heart and has had one the entire time but it has been broken beyond repair (so he thinks).
Lenny is an amazing heroine and I did connect with her more than I did with him early on. She was feisty and had some girl balls that would make some boys cry! She was broken but in a different way than Vaughn. She lost her mom when she was young and she never really recovered from that and her father was just a douchebag! He put his art before her but I think it was because he was so lost. The miscommunication in their little story could have been avoided but Len was a stubborn woman!
The banter and inner thoughts between Vaughn and Lenny did have me laughing out loud at times. His humor was dry and kind of sadistic but it worked in his favor
Harry and Arabella didn’t add a thing to the story for me except a bunch of drama. Harry got what he deserved in the end but I wanted a bigger climax.
I was so upset by the way Emilia had acted at one point. I was screaming “what happened to that spunky girl, who is this woman??” I was also so mad that Vaughn thought he couldn’t talk to his father about what had happened to him. We know Vicious would have rained down hellfire for that boy!
At a little over the halfway mark the book took a turn for me for the better, Thank God! We finally get a glimpse of the V that would do anything and everything to protect his son, the Emilia that would go to the ends of the earth for her only child, and the Vaughn that let Lenny mold his heart back to the blood pumping organ it was. It was at that point that we get a love letter from Vaughn and I had a tear in my eye. The end and the epilogue were good but this is the end of the series ffs! I wanted more.
So, as you can tell this was NOT my favorite book from this author. It was hyped up so much that my expectations were through the roof and I was let down in a big way (same thing happened with TKT). However, this author happens to be a favorite of mine, she writes brilliant, real, raw books and characters. This will in no way keep me from reading anything and everything she writes. Like I said, this book will work for most but for me I didn’t get it.
I try not to ever post spoilers but in this case I think i had to in order to get my point across. I did not think it was as dark as everyone else thought and I also didn’t think that trigger warnings were necessary because we knew something bad had happened to Vaughn.
My heart is broken that I’m giving this such a low rating because I wanted so bad to love this more than all the other books. But I also pride myself on being honest.
3 I was let down and needed more stars.

BEAUTIFUL. BROKEN. HEART ACHING.
All Saints High is a spinoff series from the Sinners of Saints Series. It follows the children of the Hotholes. Though this series could be read without the prior reading of Sinners of Saints, but it is recommended to read Sinners of Saints first.
Angry God is the last book in the All Saints High Series and it is the story of Vicious and Emilia’s son Vaughn and his love interest Lenora. As this is the story of Vicious’s son, expectations for this book were already so high and without a second doubt can I say that LJ surpassed all those expectations.
LJ Shen is one of those writers that get better and better after every book they write. AND GODDAMN can she make you cry with her writing. There were parts of this book where I was left in awe and there were parts where I wanted to pull my hair and scream. The fact that LJ can make you feel such strong emotions still blows my mind.
Vaughn Spencer is NOT your typical bad boy. He is angry, ruthless, heartless, and twisted. His character has an ugly past, which is the reason why he is angry. One second you will hate him for what he does and the other second all you want to do is hug him. I can’t say I am not biased because I do love his father, Vicious, so that does automatically make me love him just equally but I have to say his character has this effect on me that I don’t think any other character has. I think the best part about him is the way he loves, which by the way is something he definitely inherited from Vicious. I could definitely see parallels between Vicious and Vaughn’s love story. They both were in love without realizing that they were and when they did realize that, their love broke all boundaries.
Lenora Astalis is completely different from what you would imagine her to be. She is totally badass and does not take any shit from Vaughn. Her character has gone through so much and yet she is so selfless and loving. Through the book, you will see how her character grows and it’s honestly the best thing.
You will see why Vaughn and Lenora were always meant to be from the start. Their chemistry is out of this world. They aren’t your typical Good girl bad boy couple. They are dark, messy, and literally all over the place. Their bickering to their jealously to their possessiveness, I loved every single bit of them. The book is slower compared to the other books LJ has written but I am telling you the end is so worth it.
The book has been written with so much thought and emotions, I’m left speechless. LJ Shen always manages to surprise me. I don’t think any words can do justice to her and her work. With that being said I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I know a lot of people will be having mixed feelings about this book but that’s because this book is not ordinary, it’s written by LJ and is twisted in its own ways. If you are in the review section wondering if you should buy this book or not, let me tell you to stop and just give it a shot, you will never know whether you like it or not unless you try it yourself.
This was the book that I didn’t know that I was missing. After finishing Angry God, I expected to feel this emptiness that these stories were over, but I honestly felt whole. We’ve come full circle from the first books in the Sinner of Saint series, to their babies in the All Saints High series. And LJ left no stone unturned and gave us an ending that was beautiful and well deserved.
This book was heartbreakingly beautiful, and if there were a picture next to the word anti-hero in the dictionary, it would be of Vaughn. He was one of the most complex characters, much like his father. He seemed as if he didn’t have a care in the world, but deep down he was vulnerable and Lenora helped show him that being vulnerable around the person you love doesn’t make you weak.
As for Lenora, I don’t think that LJ Shen could have written a better match for Vaughn. She was smart, and didn’t take crap from anybody. She stood her ground, and became stronger because of it. She was the perfect fit for Vaughn, and the love that she showed to him was beautiful. These two together are an unstoppable force.
I can’t leave a review for this book and not talk about Daddy Vicious and Emilia. Honestly, I think that is the part of this book I was most excited for, was seeing Vicious and Emilia, as parents, and they did not disappoint. They are fiercely loyal and the love they have for their son was palpable. When puzzle pieces started falling into place for them, you could feel it. You could feel their emotions; honestly, LJ absolutely killed every part of this book.
Overall, this was one of the best books I think I have ever read. This book was an emotional rollercoaster with twists and turns thrown in that I didn’t see coming. LJ handled the darker moments with a respect and care that you can’t ignore. One of her best books to date, and one of the best books I think I have ever read.
Hands down this book is worth every single 5 stars, what a read!! Vaughn is alot like his father but not, he has his own demons and quirks, Lenora (Lenny) has her issues and the way Vaughn and Lenny dance around/with each other at first will frustrate you..I mean something has to give, right? Alot of twists and turns in this story and when things start falling into place so doesn’t Vaughn and Lenny, such an explosive couple which I adore so much, dang I loved their story!!
Not gonna lie when they book was first announced way back at the beginning of the series I was scared to see what made Vaughn such an Angry God. Emilia and Vicious have just been #goals for so long I didn’t want anything to ruin them for me. Well have no fear they are still EVERYTHING and more as parents. Vaughn is 100% Vicious’ son and that family dynamic was never in doubt.
Lenny, oh my Lenny. I love her so much. She was such a bad*ss and I don’t think anyone else would have had the b*lls enough to give Vaughn as good as he gave as her.
Angry God is going to be L E G E N D A R Y. It’s the crème de la crème of angst romance. It’s utter perfection in writing. It’s a story about acceptance, about hate, and about love. This book was my most anticipated read of this year and to say it exceeded any and all expectations I had would be downplaying it.
Leigh’s plotting skills are R E M A R K A B L E! She must have had Angry God all mapped out before even writing the previous books. My mind always gets blown away by how she twists the story around so unexpectedly, but Angry God is her best work so far. I was not prepared for what she had in store for Vaughn and Lenora, not at all. Saying Angry God is an intense book doesn’t even begin to cover it. It’s a very fierce story, perfect for everyone who loves a good angst and enemies-to-lovers plot line in a school environment.
The characters are U N I Q U E and R A R E. I will be honest with you, I was team Poppy rather than Lenora. It took about two pages for Lenora to become one of my favorite female book characters ever. She is such a profound character – very deep, very unexpected. She got layers of protection and it was so beautiful to read as she shed them and blossom. And Vaughn…Vaughn is a jackass that you can’t help but to love. However, once you get to know him you understand that everything he does is for a reason. He plans. He calculates. He is ruthless, but his past made him that way. He has some really nasty demons that he has to conquer on his way from hell.
Together, they are gravitate towards each other like a moth to a flame. They are inevitable. They bicker, they fight, they do nasty things to one another – some that made me laugh, some that made my jaw drop. They are simply superior, god and his goddess above the mediocracy. We did get to see Vicious and Emilia, Jamie, Knight and most importantly – Hunter. Leigh is setting us for her upcoming book The Hunter and The Prey and I already can’t wait. The secondary characters in this book were also quite interesting and I’m glad we got to see more of Poppy as well.
To sum it up, this book is so much more than you could imagine. I was honestly not ready for the pure raw emotions pouring from the pages. Angry God is E X C E P T I O N A L in every single way. This book deserves to go down the history. If I could, I’d give this book all the stars in the universe, but I have to settle for five for now.
„We weren’t coincidence. We were fate.”
I’m floored. With my heart bursting at its seams, mind completely blown away and tears leaking from my eyes, I can honestly say that I got so much more than I expected from this story. Angry God was a ride full of emotions, tension and angst. It’s a heated and passionate novel that gives such an emotional rush that you can literally feel your heart pounding. I was absolutely engrossed in Vaughn and Lenora’s story. This jaw-dropping plot grips you from page one and never lets go!
I knew that Vaughn would be a complicated young man. He comes off as this callous, cruel and unattainable guy and on some level he is exactly like that. But at the same time he’s so much more. His cold exterior hides a heart that in spite of appearances still beats and loves. He’s misunderstood, wild and haunted by the past. There was nothing more beautiful than watching him lower his walls. I love this tortured boy with my whole self.
Lenora turned out to be such an unique heroine! I loved her ability to find beauty in ugliness. I adore her sass and her attitude. But most of all I admire her loving nature. She’s a walking contradiction, who just like Vaughn hides emotions under the pretense of not caring.
The dynamic between Vaughn and Lenny leaves you wanting more after every page. More banter, more heat, more feelings. The evolution of their relantionship was such an experience that I want to sob and smile at the same time. There is no other couple like them. Their chemistry is something out of this world. You could feel the pull between these two even when they were apart. And when they were together? Calling it combustible is an understatement of the century.
This book is the true definition of a page turner. Leigh’s an outstanding storyteller, who knows how to draw the reader in and keep them hooked. With her constant twists and turns and all the surprises that you just don’t see coming she makes you totally addicted to her books. Angry God owns me fully- mind, heart and soul. LJ Shen ended All Saints High series epically. I know for sure that this series will be the one that I’ll revisit over and over again. And even when I’m saying goodbye to Todos Santos with a heavy heart, I’m ready for the new world that’s coming!
Title: Angry God (All Saints High Book #3)
Author: L.J. Shen
Genre: Contemporary
My Rating:
If you’re averse to dark, angsty twisted characters with heart..this book isn’t for you.
Book #3 has plenty of the aforementioned in DROVES. Major shards of dark all over the place that’ll only make you crave more. At least was the case for me.
Blew me away.
I thought Knight and Luna gripped my heart, but they pale in comparison to Vaughn and Lenora. Don’t get me wrong I still love the ‘treehouse’ duo. It’s just now my affinity for Vaughn and Lenora are cemented forever in my heart.
This final installment was hard to say bye to. We meet Vaughn, Vicious’ (dark) obtuse son whose got more angst in is system to set off an atomic bomb. He doesn’t do niceties. Warm fuzzies. Or heartfelt expressions. He’s a god alright; a fallen one. Dark. Demented. Manipulative. But it’s all for a greater purpose… seclusion. He’s protecting his heart. The brooding artist has all the ‘bells and whistles ‘ one could ask for: wealth, affluence, good looks. But somehow that’s not enough. And when a (good) girl who’s meek, and kind, and more relatable than he can stand, shapes a world he didn’t know needed shaping. Brings him to his knees. Turns earth on its axis. Is that enough for the ‘Angry God’ to lose himself in…in order to find himself again?
How much can a good girl take? Hurt, rejection and the ULTIMATE betrayal? Is that enough to push Lenora away…for good? Will she be able to forgive the volatile apparition and let down the walls she’d built as a point of defense? Find out yourself with this awesome read! I suggest starting with at least Broken Knight although this book can be read as a stand alone. Whichever you choose you won’t be disappointed. All-in-all a FANTASTIC read. Two thumbs all the way up, Shen!
*I received this amazing ARC in exchange for an honest review *
