What an angsty, twisted, emotional and beautiful ride! My heart is still recovering from this masterpiece. Miss Shen, had me curling my fists and clutching my pearls. This entire series based off the Hotholes kids was so gorgeously written. Vaughn and Lenora’s story was not an easy ride. It was bumpy and messy, with deep rooted secrets and life changing revelations. It was EVERYTHING and it got my EVERYTHING!!!!! What an amazing journey this story was.
I was waiting for Vaughn’s book for so long and here it is.
More darker and psychological than I expected, more challenging and interesting story than all my initial theories about his story and his love interest.
I love Vic so much and Lenny and Vaughn are made for each other in every possible way.
ANGRY GOD IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST STORY OF ALL TIME, it got so deep in my soul, reached the most hidden places in my heart and ruined me forever, I still feel it in every fiber of my being. The plot is captivating, gritty, dark, so intense, with such deep anguish that leaves you breathless, wow, I couldn’t put it down.
The characters are UNIQUE! My Vaughn is…, I have no words, his personality fascinates me, a character with so many layers, so complex as I have never read another hero before, his mind is a vast universe full of thoughts that torture him, and he has such a pure heart under his cold outside. Our heroine is his perfect complement, sassy and brave, determined and loyal, she is my author’s FAVORITE HEROINE to date.
Although at the beginning they can’t stand each other, L.J. does a masterful job narrating the evolution of their relationship and the characters, I loved the way in which the author gradually reveals layers and layers in their personalities. Wow! They are the perfect combination, innocent but sexy, vulnerable but strong, hurting but divine.
THEIR ROMANCE IS HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL!! I Ioved their deep and intense connection, their hearts and souls are connected through time and distance! And their scenes dear god, are sooo scorchingly hot, dark but sweet, wow, they took my breath away! Their love story will stay in my heart forever!
And Vicious as dad is the best thing ever!!
The author gives us a masterpiece that is beautifully tragic, emotion overflows in every page, the writing is exquisite, flawless and sexy bordering the dark and decadent. There is something so powerful in L.J. Shen stories, something that mesmerizes you, owns your soul and leaves you speechless. But ANGRY GOD GOES BEYOND EVERYTHING I’VE READ BEFORE, it is an unique experience, a roller coaster of intense and deep emotions.
Get ready to be owned, wrecked and ruinned by L.J. SHEN AT HER BEST!!
To say that Angry God is a masterpiece just feels like an understatement. This book is everything and more!!! From the moment Leigh Shen has been dropping morsels for us in Reckless and Broken Knight, we have been getting to know the elusive Vaughn Spencer, or so we thought. The beauty and tragedy that has shaped Vaughn and intertwines his life with Lenny is both fascinating and horrific. This story is so important. It is not a typical boy meets girl falls in love romance. But Vaughn & Lenny’s connection is one you will not ever forget. I can honestly say for me Jaime Followhill was nominated for Dad of the Year for how much he loved Daria in Reckless and shed many tears. My heart shattered to pieces on the floor for Knight & Dean in Broken Knight and I sobbed a puddle on the floor. But in Angry God, I almost felt unconsolable as the tears seemed to never end with Vicious and Vaughn. My heart!!! Truly this is an epic and unforgettable conclusion to the series. Captivating, haunting, angsty, revenge, young love, empowering, HEA, Easily your next 1 click!!!
There comes a time when you think LJ Shen couldn’t create the anti-hero anymore messed up than the last. Fortunately for Shen, she goes to those places where the heart hurts and the revenge justifies the means. Shen molds the best of love and hate in Vaughn and Lenora…the juxtaposition and motif swirling around their dance is perfection! Then she adds the right amount of justifying a means to an end with Vicious and Emilia, bringing Angry God full circle. Every time I read a work from Shen it takes me weeks to process all the richness of the evils she rights, but she remains the queen of the anti-hero. In Vaughn Spencer and Lenora Astalis, she created a masterpiece of understanding why Angry God acknowledges the need for vigilantes to uphold the moral and ethical rights. Sometimes the law doesn’t serve justice.
Leigh just outdid herself, this book was so much more than what I expected.
Leigh always has a way of making us fall head over heels with not just the characters but also the story. I was on the edge of my seat and nervous about starting this book, when it ended I was just sitting there crying.
This book was about two people who were lost, they both hid something from everyone. Secrets and pain were in them and they didn’t know how to let anyone in.
Vaughn is someone I had been curious about since Pretty Reckless and especially since he’s Vicious’s son. Let me just say, Vaughn is so much more than Vicious, he is here to leave everyone with their jaws on the floor. Lenora was the QUEEN, gosh was she amazing. Lenny hasn’t had it easy but she never gave up and fought and kept her head held up high. These two will own your heart, the chemistry was off the charts. You will cry, laugh, swoon. The way these two characters grow and fight is what makes this book be everything.
This deserves way more than five stars, this is a book AND series that will stick with you for a very long time.
An amazing finale for the series, so unexpected that surprised form the very first moment.
He took a step toward me. The never-ending tango of Vaughn Spencer and Lenora Astalis.
I’ve started reading Lj’s books exactly a year ago. To say Vicious and all the books in SOS series hooked me it’s an understatement and I just couldn’t expect less with their kid’s stories. ASH series were totally different and special in a way I can’t even start to describe it.
We had Daria’s story, the Queen bee being bullied, Knight, the popular jog hiding all his pain toward booze and drugs..which leaves us Vaughn, this cold-hearted boy who dreads being touched.
What can I say about this book? If I have to be honest it would take me the whole day to express my feelings to what I feel toward it. It’s my favorite book of the three, it’s the most unexpected story and everything I thought I knew before I read it was wrong. I was so wrong and I think we all were.
The story is dark, so intriguing and it captivates you from the very first moment. Such a beautiful soul Vaughn is, he has so much of his parents, the facade and the love for art, he doesn’t care for materialist things and it’s far from wanting to be recognized. He just is and that’s what makes this character even more spectacular. Such a peculiar guy chased with a moment from his past who molded him on who he is now and made him into a justice, brave and zero fucks given persona.
Lenora, duh, we all knew it was her. Her character is amazing and one of my favorites from the whole series. She’s so unpredictable and raw, and just like him, something was taken from her. She had to grow up and fast. She loves art, and she’ll make everything in its power to get what she wants, even if she has to suck it and face her worst enemy to do it. The banter she has with Vaughn is FIRE, even hot and cold at times..this is what makes their relationship so interesting. They are different, (or so that”s what they think) yet so alike.
Shen’s writing is excellent as always, her snarks and jokes are hilarious and she has these little details that make her books so exceptional, just like no other.
I think it was the perfect finale for a series I’m sure I’ll reread many times and I can’t wait to know what’s coming next.
I do not even have words to describe the masterpiece LJ Shen has created! This book is so different from her other stories and so unique. I have never read anything like it before. There is something so dark, twisted, seductive, and vulnerable about Vaughn and the heroine’s relationship. They understand each other at the most primal of levels, a place deep within one another that no one else can see but the other. Like holding each other’s beating hearts within their hands, because without the other their hearts don’t beat inside their chests, it’s just an organ taking up space. Together their chemistry is explosive and volatile.
I’m quite in love with the heroine. She might be this good girl to outside the world, even covered in head to toe black, but to Vaughn she is so much more. I fell in love with her spunk, her take no crap attitude, her passion and drive. She was the epitome of the perfectly imperfect heroine and I loved every minute of seeing the story through her eyes. And Vaughn…this beautiful Angry God. Vaughn was an enigma, a character that kept me guessing, kept me thinking, and kept me wanting more. This beautifully dark man, who really does take after his father (Vicious <3), that through the course of events throughout his life has led him to where he is, glory, downfall, rise-up and all. When Vaughn and the heroine are together there is no denying the intense connection between them, love or hate. Because regardless of what is going on around them, they are in a universe of their own making, completely captivated with one another.
This story was beautifully dark, twisted and regal. It created this flawless picture for readers to lose themselves in. Every step of the way, LJ Shen allowed me to see everything that was happening, to feel like a part of the story. Like a shadow following the characters as they lost themselves and found themselves too. This story was brilliant in every sense of the word! You could feel the blood, sweat and tears that went into creating this masterpiece of a story. It was flawless perfection!
I need more stars for this book!
I wasn’t prepared for Angry God. I wasn’t prepared for Vaughn. I thought I was but I really wasn’t. I went into this having already made up my mind that Vaughn was not going to win me over. There was maybe a 1% chance he was going to do that. And when I started this it seemed like I was going to be right. Vaughn can be a bit of a prick, he’s really not an easy person to like in the beginning, he’s everything I dislike in a person. He’s mean, cruel, selfish, manipulative…but is he really? This guy messed with me good. I disliked him with a passion at first but there was always something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on that kept drawing me to him. I needed to know more, to know who he really was. The more I got to know him, the easier it was to understand why he’s the way he is. That 1% chance he had of making me like him? I think I severely underestimated Vaughn Spencer because he’s somehow ended up as my favourite All Saints High character and believe me no one is more shocked at that than me.
Lenora was amazing and I loved her from the start. There’s one scene in particular that I absolutely loved and that had me bouncing with excitement over what was about to go down. I didn’t see it playing out the way it did and that made me even happier (when/if you’ve read this you’ll know what scene I’m talking about). Lenora is not the kind of girl to take things without retaliating and when she does she does so in style. There’s nothing about Lenora that I didn’t like.
Vaughn’s story isn’t an easy one, your heart is going to break for him. I went through every emotion reading Angry God. There are so many twists and turns. I was thinking there’s no way LJ Shen can bring it all together and answer my many questions but she somehow managed to not only bring it together, she made it even better than I ever expected. Highly recommend this book.
My mind has been blown, my nerves obliterated and my heart completely and utterly shattered.
This book is everything if you look up the definition of masterpiece angry god will be in big bold letters!
Passionate, intense and electrifying!
I’m STUNNED SPEECHLESS! Angry God will leave your heart clenching in agony! IT SLAYED MY HEART AND SOUL! The writing is sublime and the storytelling is perfection. There are truly no words to describe the perfection with which L.J writes.
Emotionally gripping, masterfully written, Sheen has officially crafted the best contemporary romance of 2020!
I’m completely enamored and infatuated with angry god.L.J weaves this story so beautifully! This isn’t just a book it’s a work of art!
“10 masterful Stars!”
Uncompromising and broken— Vaughan is an angry young man, and in Lenny he finds his equally uncompromising and broken match.
It will come as no surprise to the fans of this series to know that this book, in particular, is dark and emotional, and the actions of the MCs are not always honourable.
The author has skilfully written a story which acknowledges the fact that we live in an imperfect world and most of us living within it are equally flawed, but no matter how damaged the characters, love can still flourish.
Look elsewhere for hearts and flowers—within these pages there is fierce loyalty, raw passion and the slow but steady rebuilding of what seems to be irrevocably destroyed… I received an advanced copy from the author.
A hauntingly unforgettable story of vengeance. It will consume you. Two people struggling with loss and pain that find one another. Their connection cannot be severed. Their bond will teach them how to love and be loved. At some point you have to choose between love or revenge. Which would you choose?
I went into this story reading nothing but the blurb. I like going in blind and living the story page by page. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the story unfold.
Vaughn is complicated. He’s a dark and broody artist. He’s emotionally withdrawn and introverted. He’s cruel and manipulative. He’s also an amazing talent, incredibly gorgeous and unforgettable. He seeps into your soul and takes hold.
Lenora is a good girl. She follows the rules, gets good grades, works hard and stays out of trouble. But she hides her darkness. After losing someone close to her, she wanted to change who she was. So she embraced her dark side.
They met as young teens but never forgot each other. Their first meeting left a lasting impression. Now it’s senior year of high school and they are both in Todos Santos. Vaughn doesn’t do feelings of any kind. So tormenting her any way he can becomes his only focus. Lenora doesn’t let the haters phase her. She has grown a backbone and no longer backs down. He tries to make her life hell. She fights back every step of the way.
The rules do not apply to Vaughn. With a daddy that could buy and sell the town, he can do whatever he wants. Lenora survives him but could not wait to head back to her home country and chase her dream. An artist herself, she has been fighting for an internship at her father’s exclusive art school for a long as she can remember. Her biggest competition is Vaughn.
The two end up together once again. Sparks always fly when they are together. She doesn’t believe in love. He doesn’t know how to feel anything. This is a story of self-discovery. Together they will fight through their past.
I had no idea what to expect and this final book of the series was dark and delicious. Vaughn will make you angry, get you HOT and bring you to tears. Your heart will ache for him. This story is heavy and complex. You’ll read of pain and loss. Ultimate betrayal and acts of defiance. And the ANGST will overwhelm you at times. You’ll embrace the thirst for revenge. And the Spencer’s will once again remind us why we love them all. It’s always hard to see a series end and letting this one go is the hardest. The series came full circle and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
5/5 STARS
I’ve been waiting with so much anticipation for Vaughn’s story!
I’ve been loving him since Ruckus Epilogue, when he was just a toddler, and I kept loving him through the previous books in the All Saints High Series.
His personality, his “aura”, his hostility, were already too much enticing, appealing and intriguing
I needed to know what was lurking behind all his coldness.
And you know what? L.J. Shen did what she always does: she went far and beyond my (very high) expectations, my theories and my usual comfort zone.
Vaughn and Lenora’s love story is really dark, raw, unconventional, heartbreaking, often emotionally challenging, but above all the darkness, the low blows, the back and forth, I also experienced the most beautiful, powerful and pure emotions.
This book was really hard to put down. And it’s such a bittersweet feeling, having to close it and say goodbye to both the Sinners and HSH Series…
But the journey was worth it.
ANGRY GOD was the story I hoped for Vaughn, and so much more.
A consuming love story, where Vaughn and Lenora bring the most beautiful emotions from the darkness of their own pasts, from the darkest depths hidden in some far away castle…
Sometimes, the most beautiful things come from destruction, loss and ugliness, the light shines above the darkness that one day marred our souls.
Thank you, Leigh, for this unique love story.

Well, The stories of the hot holes and their tot holes have come full circle and left me basking in the afterglow. With the end of anything great, my heart is left full to bursting and slightly broken. I’m so sad to see these characters and stories end, but what a spectacular end it was.
In my opinion, Shen saved the best for last when she gave us Vaughn and Lenora. These two were like fire and gasoline. They burned brighter, hotter and more intense because of each other.
There was so much mystery building up to this story. Admittedly, I was hoping for Vaughn’s girl to be the sugary sweet Poppy. But, What the heart wants and what the heart needs are two different things. Vaughn needed someone to go toe to toe with him, to challenge him and stand up to him. Lenora was his perfect match in every way. The only partner worthy of an angry god is an unyielding goddess.
Every emotion with these two was amplified. The hate, and attraction ran deep. They were dark and a little twisted, but both were inherently good at the core, which still shines through even when they are at their worst. It’s so effortless to create an attachment to them while reading. This story was full of heartbreak, but the light at the end of the tunnel was well worth the darkness you experience along the way.
Shen has an almost supernatural ability to give complex backgrounds and incredible depth to her characters. Their stories are all so uniquely different yet equally interesting and lovable, even when they want to make me destroy my e reader with their antics.
No one writes the antihero like Leigh. Slow clap to her. She certainly set the bar high with this one.
Oh my word, LJ Shen has done it again! This book will absolutely sweep you off your feet! I’m not usually a big fan of bully romances, but this one was different. A little bullying, alot of angst, some dark heartbreaking details thrown in….you won’t be able to put this book down! I don’t want to give anything away, so let me just say, you need to read it! You won’t regret it!
Somehow LJ Shen manages to get better with every book she writes, even though you think she can’t get any better!
OMG firstly thank you for sending me an ARC! I almost cried!
Secondly What an amazing book! I already new before starting that Vaughn was going to be take over Penns spot in my heart and he did. LJ‘s writign is just phenomenal and I don‘t know how she pulls it off!
I was sitting on the edge of my seat all througout reading this book. You never knew what was coming next and I honestly never thought that Vaughn had such a fucked up past.
Lenora is an amazing heroin and I loved how she didn‘t take shit from anyone who stood in her way. I also enjoyed the dynamics between her and Poppy and it was great to see how differently both of them were and still loved eachother fiercly and stood by eachother!
What else could you expect from an LJ Shen book? Her books get better everytime she releases a new one and I can‘t wait to hold this one in my hands.
5+++ out of 5
I only wished there would‘ve been more of the Spencer Family together maybe we could get a bonus story?
5 “Before everything, there was you” Stars!!
I have tears in my eyes writing this review not because I’m sad but because this story is so emotional. I fell hard for Vicious so I had no illusions about how hard I would fall for Vaughn. What I didn’t anticipate was how much he and Lenny would own me completely. I think he has come the closest to dethroning his father.
“Heartbreak had a taste, and it exploded in my mouth every time I tried to smile.”
Lenora is a mix between a nice sweet girl and a rebel. Pure but strong and not willing to back down. My heart beats for Vaughn, he is destructive cold and vengeful. Both are talented outcasts and some would say they are dark twisted and broken but I just call them undeniably beautiful. I’m not talking about their looks I’m speaking of their souls, minds, and dare I say, their hearts.
“We were an unfinished business, personal and always walking the tightrope between love and hate.”
I highlighted almost 85% of this book. Every word was breathtaking, intense and fierce. I didn’t think I could love Vicious and Emilia anymore than I all ready did but seeing them as parents proved me wrong. Vicious is still vicious in every sense of the word. I could read about the Sinners and the Saints for the rest of my life and it would never be enough.
“I was born with an insatiable appetite for destruction.”
This book titters on the edge of darkness. It is deep, raw and unfiltered. I wouldn’t classify it as a dark romance, although there are some pretty dark subjects contained within the pages, but it’s definitely not a sugary sweet, fluffy read. I have always been drawn to the dark so of course I highly recommend this book and series! Pure perfection and phenomenal, Angry God consumed my heart and soul.
