ANGEL’S BLOOD is the first installment in Nalini Singh’s exciting and dangerous Guild Hunter series. This is also a deadly world full of blood and violence that may make some readers uncomfortable.
The book is set in a world where angels and vampires roam free. Where the other worldly beings are ruled by the Cadre of Ten. Ten archangels with unimaginable powers; their beauty unmatched by any mortal and often looked up to as gods. Yet to encounter an archangel ensures an almost certain death, to cross one holds a fate far worse than death.
Elena is a guild hunter, a member of an age-old organization who tracks and returns vampires who’ve escaped their service contracts to their angels. Elena is also hunter born, a mortal with extrasensory skills that help trace vampires. It also leaves them vulnerable because vampires have an infinity for sensing and being drawn to the hunter born. Elena is one of the best guild hunters in the world and she is really wishing she wasn’t when finding out whom has contracted her skills for the next assignment: The archangel of New York.
This book was unbelievable! The plot was engaging and entertaining. The characters are exquisitely crafted and each one vital to the storyline. I have devoured the book several times and after my umpteenth re-read, I figured I should put some words to page about how awesome the story is and how much I adore the author!
It was the characters that made the story for me. They were multi-faceted and easily relatable. I love how each one is a mystery just waiting to be discovered. Elena and Raphael were magic together. The pairing seemed unbalanced because Raphael is hundreds of years old and a cruel being full of immense power, and Elena a hunter born mortal who’s lived but a speck of time.
Elena is a honed blade, sharp and deadly with an inner strength, fierce loyalty and pure of heart. I honestly thought she was too good for Raphael.
This is an awesome beginning to the series and I HIGHLY recommend ANGEL’S BLOOD to anyone who likes their paranormal romance dark, dangerous and deadly.
Words cannot express the depth of my love for Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series, but I’ll try.
So many of the tropes of urban fantasy seem endlessly recycled, so when you come across a series that is truly original in more than one way, it’s worth talking about. That’s the primary reason I love pretty much everything by Singh and this series in particular.
Check out the tagline: “Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael. But this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.”
If that doesn’t hook you, let me tell you Elena just might be your all-time favorite vamp hunter. She’s well-trained, strong-willed, and well-armed, just like the rest, but Elena has a couple of talents you won’t find in any other series–not to mention a backstory so bloody and terrifying, you’ll literally cringe in your seat (in the best possible way). I won’t spoil it for you, but you simply must go on a hunt with Elena.
Did I mention the angels and archangels yet? They are truly Singh’s best creation. Immortal, inhuman, and mind-bogglingly powerful, the archangels rule our world from within their individual domains, served by legions of angels, vampires, and humans. North America is ruled by the Archangel Raphael from atop Angel Tower in Manhattan.
Of course, Elena and Raphael are on a collision course, and if you can predict where this story goes, you’re a better storyteller than me. Enter a truly original world of angels, archangels, assassins, vampires, hunters, and monsters, and ride along with the one woman who isn’t afraid to face any or all of them. Fair warning: once you start this series, you won’t stop reading, so clear your calendar for a little while.
Audiobook, borrowed through Audible romance package.
Second read through and I stand by my original four star rating. Thoroughly enjoyed stepping back into this series and enjoying Elena’s badassery all over again. Elena and Raphael aren’t really my favorite couple in romance, especially in this start. BUT, all the action and side characters help make this book fabulous.
And, as I’ve already started listening to book two, they grow better over time. I feel my main issue with them as a couple is Raphael’s drastic change from wanting to kill her to falling in love. I think it’s because they seem to be “fated mates” but there’s no mention of that. So the transition on Raphael’s part lacks a real explanation.
Anywho, super pumped to jump back into (and hopefully finish) this series! The auidobooks are awesome and I LOVE the narrator. More romance books should be read solely by women, k thanks.
I picked up Angel’s Blood thinking it was an urban fantasy, but I’d say it falls solidly into the paranormal romance category.
While this book was more of a romance than I generally read, the writing was solid and the characters compelling. Nalini Singh certainly knows her craft.
Elena has a strong personality that lands her in plenty of trouble, and a complicated past that gives her depth.
Raphael is hard to get a handle on, until Elena humanizes him for us.
Together they strike a volatile balance that propels them through the story. Though, the plot mostly exists to support their developing relationship, which is the true focus of the book.
New take on vampires, with the twist of angels.
This book is about Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux that hunted or tracked vampires that ran from their masters and returned to them to their masters. Elena works for the Guild that gives her a Licensed to Hunt Vampires & Assorted Others. This makes it so she is know to be the best born hunter and that makes her what is need to hunt what the Archangel Raphael needs to hunt. Elena did not like to work for the Archangel because she just did not like him. Raphael was intrigued with Elena. I will be getting the rest of books from this author.
Love the author and this is the first of a great series
I’ve had this book on my TBR shelves for years, finally got around to reading it, and oh boy, am I glad I did. Raphael and Elena heat up the pages. Miss Singh has a way of sucking you in and not letting you go. I found myself reading this book every spare second I had. It’s well developed, the characters have such depth, and the romance is addictive, though I’m not really a romance reader. I can’t recommend this book high enough.
I’m a massive fan of everything Nalini Singh writes but this series, starting with Angel’s Blood, is my favorite. Complicated heroes and smart, capable heroines are my catnip and both are standouts. Go get it!
Such a great story. Ms. Singh continues to write really good stories that keep the reader entertained and coming back for more.
I read the guild Hunter series many years ago but was a great addition to my book collection. Great characters and world they were set into. Really recommend reading this series of you enjoy fantasy.
Love the Guild Hunter series. Keep waiting for more stories and haven’t missed a single one. Looking forward to more and more. Great series if you love action, romance with paranormal skills and very strong heroine.
For paranormal romance, it doesn’t get better for me than Nalini Singh. An epic, gritty, action-packed series. So much love.
A must read! A wonderful collection of unique characters.
Audiobook review: Angel’s Blood is about an archangel, a hunter, and a rampaging bloodlusting crazy archangel. Death is around each corner and the dynamic duo, who are searching for the crazy archangel, also have the hots for each other. The story is interesting and kept my wayward attention. The story had an interesting twist T the end and I’m looking forward to seeing how the series expands. The narrator did a good job.
Love this author. Love this series
Very few books do I read over and over again, but Angel’s Blood is right there at the top of the list.
An original world with great depth to the characters. Love it.
This is another series by Nalini Singh which I’m never disappointed in. Her worlds are just a bit more interesting and creative than many fantasy/paranormal ones but easy enough and real enough to grasp.
It was great
A worthy addition to the Guild Hunter series by Singh!
