British period cozy mystery among the upper middle classes, featuring a heroine of independent means who is a bit mysterious herself. Very entertaining to read even when I guessed who did what.
A great read if you’re in the mood for cozy English mysteries with an amateur lady detective. Not quite the same caliber as Agatha Christie, but entertaining.
Just classic who-dunnits, with a heroine who is proper without being stuffy. The series is worth reading, preferably in order, and lovers of crime fiction should be glad to know it has a satisfactory conclusion several books down the line. The author introduces Angela at the most British of events, a house party. The books become more complex, with charming jewel thieves and a backstory for Angela that makes her a more complicated character than she first appears. So glad I found these!
Enjoyed the entertaining characters. Did find Angela a bit unbelievable with her too easy going attitude with her out of control niece. I did figure out early on who all the villains were. It did not keep me from enjoying the books and watching how Angela came to discover who they were.
Love this genre!
I loved Mrs. Marchmont, and the variety of characters with whom she finds herself entwined in these period piece mysteries.
A great series.
great beach reading
a bit old fashioned in style but a good read
so-so

Good characters and good plots. Well written.
Pleasant and not tense
They are fun and entertaining to read. Wii read more of this character and find others from this author.
This review only applies to the 1st book, Murder at Sissingham Hall. Let me start by saying I love English mysteries. I’ll take any time period. I was eager to read this book. I figured out who the murderer was halfway through the book, never a good sign. It only went downhill from there. The entire near suicide plot was ridiculous! This book was beyong disappointing. No way will I read any sequels.
Nothing special but amusing, non dramatic read. Right for the times.
Old fashioned. Reminds me of TV show “Murder She Wrote “. Interesting to a degree. I read 2 of the 3 books I got. After the second book, crimes solved it still went on for several chapters. I quit reading!
Just when I needed a non-demanding English mystery story, I discovered Angela Marchmont!
I regret putting off reading these books for so many years! Now I’ll go find more.
Predictible but characters were interesting!
