Look out Christian and Gideon….Alexander Avery is in the house
Kahlen Aymes has hit it out of the park again! I LOVED this book! Thirty-two year old Alexander Avery and twenty-eight year old Dr. Angel Hemming are drawn to each other by a force far bigger than themselves. There is no denying there is an instant chemistry from the moment they see each other. This book was a fun, sexy, smart and all around great read! I couldn’t put my book down. Angel is a strong, beautiful and intelligent woman who gives the sexy billionaire Alex a run for his money. The chemistry between these two is instant and gets stronger and better as the book goes on. The banter back and forth made me laugh out loud at some points. I don’t know what Kahlen has in store for these two but I was left wanting more and can’t wait for book two, Confessions After Dark!!
I have had this book since it released and I don’t know why it took me so long to read….this book was Fantastic. I loved The Remembrance Trilogy by Kahlen Aymes, but this story is so different from that story. I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book….I just knew that I loved the authors other books and the blurb sounded interesting. Let me tell you this book is so totally opposite from her other books, but just as engaging. This book kept me intrigued and turning the pages all the way through. I love Kahlen’s writing style…she has a great ability in creating a story that just sucks you in. I thought this book was flawless….the storyline was unique and the flow of the book was great. I am excited to read the next book Confessions After Dark to see where Alex and Angel’s story will go.
Alex and Angel are such different characters then Ryan and Julia….we are talking like complete opposites. Alex and Angel are two very career and goal orientated people. They weren’t going to let anything derail them from their true goals in life were…..especially not something like love or a relationship. Angel has to be the strongest heroine I have ever read about. She had some bad stuff happen to her in college, but instead of breaking her, it made her stronger. It made her create walls around herself to help protect her. That is until she meets Alex and he pushes his way into her life and tries to break down those walls. Alex is the type of man who doesn’t believe in love or feelings so his past relationships have been based on being purely physical. But he isn’t a true player like you would think….he is always monogamous and is always upfront with what he is expecting. That is until he meets Angel and she unknowingly test all of his beliefs. I loved these two together….they have great chemistry and the way they would banter had me giggling more then once. Their relationship was a fun and exciting game of cat and mouse, to see who would crack first.
I also really liked Darian, Becca, And Jillian. They were fun characters and added something special to the story.
This is a book I would recommend to everyone. This isn’t just a love story….this was a book also filled with some mystery and suspense. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the next book. This book didn’t have a cliffhanger ending, but it is a To Be Continued ending. Alex and Angel end at a good place, but you know there is more to come because things were left unanswered in this book. Don’t miss out on this book….You WON’T be sorry!!!!
Another great series from Kahlen Aymes! Angel and Alex are a favorite of mine!
3.5 Stars – Good book with some flaws
I am torn between liking this story and being annoyed by it ‘ at least at some parts.
The writing wasn’t bad but I was annoyed at the constant repeat of ‘Uhhh’ and ‘Ummm’ and ‘Unnng’. I also had to get used to the writing in general. The constant change of POV’s was irritating. I don’t know the right description of this but google said it’s called an omniscient narrative perspective. Everything’s revealed and you don’t have to wonder what he’s/she’s thinking because you get everybody’s perspective. No place for the reader’s imagination.
The Story:
Dr. Angeline Hemming, short Angel, gives every Friday night advises to women on the radio. She thinks those women are prey for men and they are stupid for falling for men which are obviously not relationship material.
When Alex talks to Angel on the radio, he is intrigued by her charm, humor and wit. When he finally meets her, he can’t believe it. She is the full package. Beautiful and intelligent. She has it all.
He wants to get to know her better while she tries to keep her distance from him because she knows men like him and that she would get burned in the process of getting to know him.
Angel knows how awful men can be because of her work as a criminal profiler and that it’s better not to get too involved with them.
Likes/Dislikes:
While I had really high expectations of this book because the blurb sounded oh so good, I was disappointed by the first half of it. It sometimes felt a bit dull.
It’s too much insta-love/attraction for me especially because both have been living their lifestyles for too long to change it in such short time for someone they hardly knew. Angel thinks women are stupid for falling for awful men but in the end she isn’t so much different than them. She herself falls head over heels for a guy that is exactly one of those types she warns other women of. Ugh!
I liked it nonetheless but had some troubles with a few bits and pieces. Though when the threats started and it got really interesting I couldn’t stop reading. It sadly ended really abruptly and I wish I could continue reading.
I loved Alex’s character. He was caring, passionate, loving, and just irresistible. But I think it’s still strange that he and also Angel turned 180° in a few minutes because they both wanted different things when it came to relationships and suddenly they can’t think about anything else than about each other and being with one another.
Despite some troubles I had in the beginning of the book, I want to read the next book because I so wanna know what happens next! I believe there will be a HEA in the end which is fine by me but I especially want the gooey parts. I loved the sex scenes. They were hot! And Alex is so worried about Angel. I loved this about him even though we don’t know a lot about him yet.
Wow! Angel and Alex will keep you on the edge of your seat! I loved the whole push-pull connection that they have and cannot wait to see where their lives go in the next book!
