A very good read.
A Teenage boy solves the murder and starts the book series. This story moved at a good pace and had twists and turns to keep it interesting. Jack Stratton is a 17 year old boy who has had a rough start in life. He eventually lands in a loving foster home with a black family and then is adopted by an equally loving white couple. Jack dreams of becoming a police officer, but to do so he has to stay out of trouble and keep his record clean. His problem is that he seems to always get into trouble while trying to be a Good Samaritan. A young pregnant woman goes missing and Jack is immediately drawn to the case and starts looking for her. He finds her body in a nearby park and wants to help with the police investigation, but he is shutdown down by the less than interested investigating detective. He warns Jack to stay clear of the investigation, but of course Jack does not and he just seems to be getting himself in deeper trouble. The author did a good job in getting into the mind of a teenage boy. There were several potential suspects and Jack solves the murder at the end. This book was written as a prequel to the book series.
This was a very good book -I would definitely read more from this author
My first book from this author, but won’t be the last. I’m not sure why it’s not considered the first of the Jack Stratton series, but it is a stand alone book that the informs readers how Jack grew up to be who and what he is now. At least I’m guessing it is. I just started what is said to be book #1, so guess I’ll find out.
This one held my interest and did so with good editing, excellent spellchecking, and no unnecessary crude language. It IS possible even in this genre. So I would recommend to anyone who wants to start the series for a little background.
I will probably read more from this author
I liked it.

I liked the youthful characters and their determination to solve this mystery. Story took some unusual turns and ending was not too predictable making it a very enjoyable read. I want to read more about the main character as he moves into police work.
A Who-Done-It story
This is the first book in years that I did not finish! Actually read to 52% and could not go on any further. Repetative. Juvenial.
Great mystery I couldn’t put it down
Really enjoyed this book! I’m ready for more Jack Stratton
This book sets the stage for the Jack Stratton Series and his plan to become a detective. Jack is a very likable character with a troubled past and trouble seems to still be part of his life. This makes for an intriguing page turning read. A great story and a well developed character.
The story was good. I thought it was geared to a teenage audience. The main character was a 18 year old. From the book preview I didn’t realize it.
I really enjoyed this book. it is one of those that make you want to read more by the same author. Loved the characters and the story line. Easy to read and enjoyable
