Courtney Baker is ready to put small town life—and the man she can’t have—behind her. Years of secretly crushing on her best friend’s older brother have led nowhere and she’s finally ready to move on. It would have been a great plan had she not drunkenly blurted out all her feelings and kissed him. At least she’ll be able to forget all about it when she leaves town in less than 48 hours. It takes … hours.
It takes a lot to surprise Dean Jones, but a kiss from the girl he’s been secretly attracted to for years does just that. All it takes it one kiss for him to realize he doesn’t want to let her go. But she’s his sister’s best friend and that’s a line he knows he should never cross. Never mind that she seems determined to leave their small town—and him—behind.
When a storm and a broken car stop Courtney from leaving town, Dean sees perfect opportunity to get her out of his system. But can one night ever be enough?

Courtney has had a crush on her best friends brother Dean for years. Courtney life is in limbo her best friend is getting married and she needs to find a new job. She feels like she has to leave Magnolia Sound. Courtney is outgoing and brave. Dean is somber, controlled and protective. Dean is awe of Courtney and maybe a little intimidated. Once she took charge and kissed him his life was never the same. By being with Courtney he is finally doing something for himself. There is light a heartedness with Dean now that Courtney is in his life. Dean thought he was doing ok when she kissed him he knew he was wrong. Courtney turns his house into a home. She accepts him and she is everything he ever wanted. I loved that we got to see Scarlett and Mason again and how their story continues. If you like character driven romances I highly recommend any of Samantha’s books.
I absolutely love this Magnolia Sound series! 5 magnolia’s for this one!
Meet Courtney, her best friend Scarlett is getting married, Courtney is feeling down because she’s lost her job, she’s planning a big move to Raleigh to find a new job. When helping Scarlett the day before the wedding puts her in front of Scarletts brother Dean, whom she’s had a crush on for what seems like forever, can she hold back her feelings?
Follow their story, and yes you will get previous character appearances in this one!
If this were a real town, I’d pack my stuff and move there in a heartbeat! Grab this one asap!
Enjoyable! A sweet, sexy and fun story that keeps you engaged. Courtney and Dean have known each other most of their lives. Courtney is Dean’s sister’s bff and has had a crush on Dean since she was 15 yrs. old. I really enjoyed watching them realize that what they’ve been denying for so long has finally materialized and how perfect they are for each other. There is lots of obstacles to overcome but they learn to do it together. I also got a kick out of the reactions Dean’s family has to him being with Courtney. If you enjoy best-friend to lover romances this story is for you.
This series is one of my all-time favorites from Chase, and I love returning to Magnolia Sound time and again. This time, Scarlett’s brother, Dean, and her best friend, Courtney, get their HEA. Courtney has had a crush on Dean for years, but she’s given up hope that anything will ever happen between them. Not only is he her best friend’s brother, but he’s six years older than her. When she loses her job as a dental technician and her parents turn their house into an Air BNB while they’re vacationing for months, Courtney realizes there’s nothing left for her in Magnolia Sound.
When Courtney has car trouble on her way out of town, Dean rides to her rescue and takes her car to the family’s garage to determine the damage. This begins a scheme by a very pregnant, emotional Scarlett, enlisting the help of Dean and their father to keep Courtney in town so she’ll be there for the birth of Mason and Scarlett’s child. With Courtney staying at Dean’s house and them just beginning to explore their feelings, the tangled web gets even more deceptive.
I was a little surprised by Courtney’s lack of maturity, and this is always an issue for me. I think this character trait can send the wrong message to easily influenced readers and it can come across as rewarding bad behavior. Courtney did eventually learn and grow, which helped to redeem that aspect of her personality. Otherwise, she is loyal, driven and industrious, which I admired a lot and thought complemented Dean really well. Dean had his shakable moments, as well, and the things that were holding him back ended up being much ado about nothing, which I think is an excellent lesson – most of the things we worry about don’t happen, so why waste energy worrying?
While not my favorite couple from this series (Mason and Scarlett will always own my heart) I enjoyed traveling their road to forever with Courtney and Dean. The concept of family is a strong theme in all of Chase’s books, and this one highlights that family is not only blood, but also sisters of the heart. With a nice dose of humor, a bit of drama, a Hallmark rating, and plenty of hits to the heart, Courtney and Dean’s story is a great addition to a phenomenal series.
This is such a good story!
Everything you want in a true romance.
I truly enjoyed reading it
from the first pages to the last.
It’s captivating, funny, romantic & sexy.
Courtney & Dean, have known each
other for years. She’s had a crush on
him since she was fifteen, and he has
always thought of her as a little sister.
Courtney, is ready for a fresh start.
And Dean starts to see her as someone
other than a little sister.
You will simply love Courtney Dean.
Great story & series!!
Every time I read a new Samantha Chase book, I think it’s her best and the couple in it is my favorite. This one is no different! I think it’s because Chase writes such likable stories and characters, it’s hard to pick a favorite! They’re all so good! love this story of Courtney & Dean! They’ve spent years admiring each other but afraid to act on it. When they finally reveal their feelings, there are lots of obstacles in the way with Courtney’s move and family members that may not be supportive. I love how their journey unfolds. Another wonderful couple in Magnolia Sound, the town I wish was real!
Courtney has had a crush on her best friends brother for as long as she could remember. But it is not until she is at a crossroads in her life does a simple kiss at a wedding turn into so much more. Will she risk the friendship she has with Scarlett by risking her heart with Dean? Or will Courtney walk away from her friend and a brand new relationship when a secret is revealed? In true Samantha Chase fashion, once again the reader falls instantly in love with the characters from Magnolia Sound. I was locked in from the opening pages and I did not put it down until it was finished. So happy to return to Magnolia Sound and I look forward to more in the series.
Courtney and Scarlett have always been best friends.
Scarlett, her dad and her brother’s always treated Courtney as one of the family.
Courtney has a secret crush on Scarlett’s oldest brother, Dean.
Since her employer retires, Courtney looses her job and she decides to pack up and leave Magnolia Sound.
After drinking to much at Scar and Mason’s rehearsal dinner, Courtney reveals her feelings to Dean and kisses Him.
Will one kiss change her future?
Best friend’s older brother meets forced proximity!
Courtney is determined to start fresh away from Magnolia Sound and away from her BFF’s older brother, her long time crush. Dean’s always been seen as almost parental by his younger siblings and their friends but Courtney has him experiencing some very non-familia feelings…just as she ready to leave! That is until her care breaks down and he takes her home with him, and sees it as a home for the first time.
I really liked seeing Courtney grow up a bit from her first appearance in In Case You Didn’t Know and that Dean wasn’t a commitment-phobe so much as just cautious. Magnolia Sound is quickly becoming a favorite series for small town romance with just the right blend of steam and fade to black.
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Oh Dean, how I love thee! As Scarlett’s big brother he has never really thought of her best friend Courtney as anything more than just that, his little sister’s best friend. Courtney on the other hand has been crushing on Dean since she was a teenager despite the fact that he always seemed out of her reach.
Well buckle up and hang on as Samantha Chase tells this thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable story of how things finally change for Dean and Courtney. It is equal parts sweet, charming and sexy. I absolutely adore them and their journey to a HEA. I love this series so much and all the characters we have been introduced to and gotten to know. I honestly can’t pick a favorite couple, but rather can say this is just another couple and story to fall in love with and I totally did, head over heels! Can’t wait for more in this series!
