Excellent book about Hurricane Michael when it hit the Florida Panhandle. This book is well written by Michael Lister who actually lived in a town affected by the storm. The story combines a series of events including murder, kidnapping and the destruction of lives and community. The book uses names of people that all Lister readers are familiar with if you follow the author. John Jordan has his job to do and protecting his town is falling in his hands . Many events lead him to let us live through the hurricane and aftermath through the eyes of John Jordan and Michael Lister.
This is an edge-of-your-seat mystery murder mystery set in the Florida panhandle just as Hurricane Michael hits. The book begins with a diary entry “I’ve decided to kill somebody”. Detective John Jordan is called in on his day off to investigate the murder of a retired Catholic priest whom he had worked with in the correctional system. Father Andrew was a bit odd but kind and wise and always in the company of his huge mastiff. Who would want to kill him and how did he die? Meanwhile Hurricane Michael is ready to make landfall and John’s wife is preparing to evacuate. A friend is keeping their daughters while she gets ready but they disappear with the friend’s father. John heads south, right into the hurricane, to try to find them, Hurricane Michael was a major character in this book. it was almost like I felt the barometer dropping as this monster approached. Kyle Tait did an excellent job narrating especially in the storm section of the book. I found the main characters well developed even though this was my first John Jordan book. Their actions and feelings were realistic given the circumstances. The solving of the murder case was interesting but felt anticlimactic for me after battling the storm with John. I am looking forward to starting at the beginning of the series and getting better acquainted with John
Would be better without all of the bad language
The section about living through the hurricane was very good. The rest was a little slow
Like the author
I have read many of the previous books in this series and as always became quickly involved with the main characters and the devastating storm that dominates them.
I lost interest and did not finish this book. What I did read was well written.
I enjoyed every Michael Lister book I’ve read…you become attached to serial characters.
A good one from Michael Lister.
Enjoyed
enjoyed the whole book, really different concept.
I have read several of this author’s books and look for more of them.
A very disappointing read for me. The first few pages got my interest as I thought this was a murder mystery. however at the start of chapter 2 the story unfolds about a hurricane and which takes up a few chapters and to me had nothing to do with the murder. I skipped these pages and finished the book. Besides those unwelcome chapters the story was good and at the end a definite “Oh my gosh is that who did it??”
The story was fast paced but I felt there should have been more character building. I didn’t feel like I really got to know them or their relationships. Still a very good read.
The descriptions of the storm–wow! Loved the determination as well as personal honesty of the main character.
A world filled with people of honor and love who face life and horrors with grit. Loved it
Very good place, character development. A real page- turner.
The book was actually two mysteries in one. A major hurricane is due to hit and a murder investigation of a former priest. The book starts a bit slowly, but once the storm hits your blood will pump and you will ask yourself if you would go that far. After the storm there is cleanup from it and the murder investigation. The characters are good, loving family and community but not too much investigation. More of a family drama and by the way there is a murder to investigate.
Another great book by Michael Lister. Lots of twists and turns in this page turner!
Didn’t finish it. Not my style.
