An unforgettable novel about finding a lost piece of yourself in someone else.Khaled Hosseini, the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations. In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and … parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe—from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos—the story expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.

An amazing story of the lives of a brother and sister, Abdullah and Pari, and all the other people that intersected their lives. An amazing journey of each character’s lives and how what happens and what they have witnessed affected their lives. It was not only a story of these various characters, it was also a journey across the globe. With every turn of the page, it becomes evident that every character’s part is one way or another intertwined in the lives of Abdullah and Pari. And, after the many years that has passed, their lives, in the end, comes round full circle. I was absolutely taken in with this story.
AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED is an emotional and riveting story of journey, self growth and understanding. When I came to the end of the book, I had to take a moment to just take in the emotional depth that Hosseini’s characters evoked with each turn of the page.
Like his other books, The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns, And The Mountains Echoed is a story of survival, sacrifice, loss, love and family that touches any readers heart. I definitely touched mine.
I love Hosseini books. His writing is so entertaining. His characters come to life and everyone introduced is interwoven with the others. Excellent book to read aloud to a senior who has limited eyesight. The story and the language is superb.
I have read 3 of Hosseini’s books and loved them all! This book, however, was a bit difficult in that it moved back and forth in time AND families. I had a hard time keeping families sorted out and holding the thread throughout the story. Though it was not my favorite of his books, I would still recommend it.
Another beautiful book from Khaled Hosseini that I would highly recommend. He evokes so much feeling with his writing I was hooked from the start, loving the rich descriptions of people and places as I settled into the story which had many different strands to it and all of them dealt with brilliantly. I found it terribly sad in places as the cruelties life deals out to some are revealed and developed as the story progresses but there is also happiness and love in a book that doesn’t always work out in the way that you are hoping for its characters.
Depressing. Unbelievable treatment of women and children.
Excellent writing style.
This book is eerie and magical at the same time. I felt connected and disconnected from the characters. The characters and the story felt so real. I love this author and believe his work is fantastic. Some of my favorite.
This is one of my all time favorite books. The way the story is weaved through families and time is just amazing. Also gave me insight into cultures and ways of life I was not very familiar with.
I love the way Hoseini writes–he’s a permanent fixture in my personal library. He gives great insight on the struggles of the people in these countries but always gives a reasonable ending. This book was probably my favorite of them all. The perspective switches throughout the book but it all ties together in a beautiful way. It’s a great book on lasting familial bonds and, specifically, the bonds of siblings.
