“Honest and moving . . . Her painful tale is engrossing.”—Washington Post Book WorldFor most of us, it was just another horrible headline. But for Deborah Spungen, the mother of Nancy, who was stabbed to death at the Chelsea Hotel, it was both a relief and a tragedy. Here is the incredible story of an infant who never stopped screaming, a toddler who attacked people, a teenager addicted to … people, a teenager addicted to drugs, violence, and easy sex, a daughter completely out of control—who almost destroyed her parents’ marriage and the happiness of the rest of her family.

This was an excellent book. Her parents tried everything with her and nothing worked. Maybe if they had tried spanking her when she was little or slapping her when she was older she may have turned out different. That was something they didn’t do but perhaps would have gotten through to her and saved her. It is amazing how someone so bright …
Sex drugs , and rock , and roll. True story well written by Nancy’s mother. The story comes to.life in this book. I own it , and will read it again. Wish it would’ve ended different for her .
Very sad but a compelling story.
Reading this gave me a whole new perspective on this tragic tale that I thought I knew about. Really shocking what this poor family went through. I have a whole new perspective being a parent. Its amazing the things you THINK you know.
When you think of Nancy Spungen, you don’t really think of how her murder by Sid Vicious affected her family. Written by her mother, it tells the story of Nancy’s life long battle with mental illness and the hardship on her family. Very informative.
I felt it could be “tightened up” as it was at times redundant and went on too long.
I hope it was therapeutic for the mother to share her heart-breaking journey and noble of her to attempt to spare others similar fates. Unfortunately, there are no firm answers and often not enough well-trained personnel to adequately help people with psychiatric …
It was so honest and raw.
A lot of it was hard to believe, esp. how parents seemed to let a child get away with so much stuff. I don’t want to judge but it seemed like the parents had never established any control.
I got so bored by the self-absorbed ramblings of this author I did not bother to finish this book.
I have an autistic son, so I could relate to some of the experience’s she went through. Reading this book can help you have compassion for people going through things you don’t understand
Interesting to read Mother’s perspective of daughter and get a peek into the family dynamics.
What a horrible story for a mother to have to tell. My heart goes out to her.
Well written first hand account of a subject I am very familiar with.
Very sad story of mental illness and the family dealings with the fallout. My heart goes out to them all.
I expected to really connect to the author, a mother with a mentally ill daughter who is murdered very young by her boy friend. Instead, I felt like she wrote the book simply to make excuses about how her and her husband dealt with her daughter’s problems, to gain sympathy for herself. I do have empathy for her when her daughter was a minor. How …
WONDERFUL LOOK INTO THE LIFE OF NANCY Spungen, girlfriend of Sid Vicious. She suffered from mental issues and drug abuse.
the mother in this story was quite self-involved
Gave me an idea of the world that punk was. This author did her daughter a great service by being honest and forthcoming. Great book.
Such a tragic life for both the daughter and her family. Its a good read. Will definitely keep your attention.
What a tragic life for this entire family. Very well told facts of a family having to deal with a mental health system that wasnt helpful and how they coped and stuck together through “the thick and thin” of living. Powerful story. Thank you for sharing it.
