Cass Clereaux is good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third–but not because she wants to be good at hiding. Cass is a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon’s soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet–she has the power to find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals. But it doesn’t … come without a price–stealing powers requires that she kill, and others would destroy her if they discover what she is. In a world full of magic, hiding her powers is the only way to survive. Finding magical artifacts is the only ways to pay the bills. But it’s a dangerous job when you can’t use your magic. When Aidan Merrick, the most powerful shifter in the city, hires her to find an ancient scroll, she doesn’t want to take the job. His immense amount of power reminds her of too much of murky memories from a past she can’t remember. But she has no choice. The scroll will reveal what she is. And if anyone finds out, she’s dead.

**Read as a Prime Reading book.
Ancient Magic is book one in the Dragon’s Gift: The Huntress series by Linsey Hall. This is my first taste of Ms. Hall and I enjoyed! Ancient Magic was a good introduction to the world and characters.
We are treated to a lot of different magic, shifters, creatures, and mixes. Cass, Nix and Del are rare FireSouls with the ability to steal powers and if discovered they would be imprisoned. They have been hiding from something or someone and the world for 10 years now, but that’s about to change.
Cass is our lead in Ancient Magic. She’s been pretending to be a Mirror Mage, but hiding is about to get even more difficult when Aiden the most powerful shifter approachers her and ask her to find a scroll that details all magical creatures. She doesn’t want to do it, but this scroll is a danger to her and her sisters. Cass is tough, but she fears her powers. She is going to need to learn about her magic and fight to protect those she cares about.
Aiden is powerful, more powerful then we are let to believe. Cass intrigues him. He can senses she posses magic, but doesn’t understand why she doesn’t use it.
The author takes use on an adventure that puts Cass and Aiden in precious situations. We travel all over on this hunt and learn that Aiden isn’t the only one searching for the scroll, something evil and from the sisters past is after it too.
The world building was nice, but I had questions and hopeful they will be answered as the series progress. The plot and action kept me intrigued and I’m curious as to what happens and how Cass will fair. As for the sisters; Nix and Del, we don’t get to see or interact a lot with them so, I’m not sure what their roles will be.
Ancient Magic was a delight to read. Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy. I’m looking forward to continuing.
Rated: 3.5 Stars
I adore Linsey Hall’s Dragon’s Gift books. So much fun, great characters, and non-stop action! With a side order of slow-burn romance. Yes please!
Ancient Magic is book one in Linsey Hall’s Dragons Gift: The Huntress series. It’s been five years since Hidden Magic the prequel and the girls Cass, Del and Nix are doing well, their business is booming and life is great, they have friends and apartments. This book is filled with so many different types of magic, shifters and demons. It’s action packed and full of adventure.
Cass, Nix and Del are rare FireSouls (they have parts of a Dragon’s soul) they are sort out by Order of the Magica or the Alpha Council cause of their ability to steal powers from other Supernaturals. They have been hiding from something or someone for 10 years, with no memory of their lives before the day they wake in a paddock at the age of 15, except for an urgent need to run and hide. Now the girls run a store called Ancient Magic which specialises in selling power imbued replica relics that Cass retrieves. When Cass is hired by a powerful Supernatural to retrieve a scroll that could jeopardise their lives and possibly get them exposed and imprisoned.
Cass is our lead in this series with appearances from Del and Nix. Cass is a powerful Mirror Mage but she has no control over her powers, so pretends she is weak as well as hiding the fact that she is a Firesoul. But hiding who she is is difficult when she is working close to the powerful hybrid Aidan who can sense her power. She doesn’t want to be near him or work with him as he makes her feel things but she must retrieve this Scroll as it details all Magical Creatures abilities and powers, which put her and her sisters lives in danger.
Aidan is a very powerful shifter, Elemental Magika plus more. He is powerful, rich, handsome and very intrigued and interested in Cass. Aidan wants to explore what’s going on between him and Cass but Cass is so scared of who she is that she wants to find the scroll and be done with him before her secret is revealed. Aidan can sense Cass posses strong magic, but doesn’t understand why she doesn’t use it, he is constantly asking her to use it, but she refuses.
I really enjoyed reading this and getting to go on this adventure with the characters. I read this book in one sitting and was hooked from the very beginning. I can’t wait to see how things heat up between Cass and Aidan now that things have been revealed.
The series of “Dragon Gift” is the best book to read in my opinion , I think that anyone that loves reading mystical, fantasy , romantic, and comedy would love this book. Has awesome page turner great switch from one book to the other and a great grab on the characters emotion. The book is not able to bore you. Thats my review, what will yours be….
good read. Hard to put down.
3 girls wake up in a field with no memory of who they are or where they come from. What happens next is a wonderfully weaved tale of them learning to hide in plain sight and thrive. That is until Cass takes a job that threatens their safety and lives. And who is this strange man that awakens things in Cass that terrifies her. I love the characters and the storyline and can’t wait to see where this series goes. There is excitement, intrigue, some stuff blown up and more. A true page turner in a way that only Ms Linsey can do!
Hidden Magic by Linsey Hall is a prequel to the Dragon’s Gift: The Huntress Series.
An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review and I did so voluntarily.
This is a quick little novella that gives us insight into how the three deirfiúr came to be, move to Magic’s Bend and meet up with Clair and Conner. A great addition to a wonderful series. This series is an urban fantasy that is geared towards young adult readers and incorporates aspects of the paranormal, action/suspense and a titter of romance. While written more for the young adult readers don’t let that stop you from reading it; this series is fabulous and will appeal to all ages and readers alike.
It’s a great story leaves you hanging till the end. I can not wait to read the next book to find out what happens in there next adventure, dose the shadows get defeated.
