RULES WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING BRING REBELLION
I cannot get enough of this series, and as soon as I see a new addition, I must read it. Once again, Ms. Tessa Carr penned an amazing page-turning thriller that continues from the other three stories in the Cape Danger series, The Blue Lion; Danger Comes In Amber; and Shadows of Green. The story has some of the characters from those stories; it is a mystery, romantic suspense, including danger, and more. The fourth story will revolve around two couples, Max and Mellie Lemons from ‘Shadows of Green,’ and Dr. Scott Stone and his wife, Nikki.
The story is full of mystery and suspense that seems to revolve around a seventeenth-century desk that Mellie will buy at auction and sell to Nikki for her office at home. From the moment the desk is in possession of Mellie, and then Nikki, crazy things begin to happen—but not just to them, to any woman who touches or even comes in contact with the desk. They are plagued with nightmares and can hear a voice crying out ‘help me.’ It will also have not one but two men wanting the desk, and what is the reasoning behind it?
The story revolves around the dynamics of both couple’s relationships, which include dominance and submission as well as domestic discipline. It will have Nikki and Scott discussing their D/s relationship, where it is going, reevaluating it, considering some changes, and renegotiating their agreed-upon terms. The story has plenty of angst, passion, power-exchange, mild discipline, and sex scenes, which are never overly explicit. I love the overall dynamics and love you feel with each couple in their marriages. The men are incredibly protective of their wives, and when they disobey, it is no secret that they are facing discipline. Both couples are aware that the other also lives a D/s DD lifestyle.
“Your middle name must be danger.”
The story is full of angst, danger, and unanswered questions that seem to all come back to this desk. It doesn’t take long for Nikki and Scott to realize the desk must be returned, and the desk will go back to the original owner, who had no intention of selling it—but someone else is after it too. What power does this desk possess, and why are two men determined to have it? Learning that it had been a gift from a father to a daughter, makes knowing who should have the desk—discovering she may be deceased, or missing will be the catalyst behind this tale. But even after the desk is back to its owner, both Nikki and Mellie are have daily nightmares– hearing the call for help. How can they let this go?
“You’re safe, he thought. Was she? How could he possibly keep her safe when he had no idea where her demons were coming from?”
The story has mystery, suspense, danger, and life and death moments. Yes, it has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. Will evil prevail and destroy, or will good overcome and win? The story is a page-turner with plenty of suspenseful moments and, best of all, a happy ending. While these stories can read as stand-alone, they are too good not to read all of them. Besides a fascinating mystery, it is also a love story of Scott and Nikki that includes their D/s DD lifestyle.
When you are a dominant and you are in a sane and consensual d/s relation, you are aware of the needs of your submisive.
Well, Scott is not only a great dominant, he is also a fabulous husband. A could not stop reading the story.

Wonderful mystery. Riveting. Mellie buys an old desk from and estate sale and sells it to her best friend Nikki. But before it can be delivered both Mellie and her assistant Sally, hear voices when they get near the desk. Someone saying “help me” and there is something scary and ominous about the desk. When it is delivered to Nikki she feels it too. They find a diary in a secret drawer written in some kind of code. They deliver the desk back to the old house it came from and talk to the owner. He tells them the diary belongs to his daughter Jenny and she has been missing for months and he suspects Jenny’s husband killer her. Now Mellie, Nikki, and their husbands Max and Scot have mystery to solve, and they need to find Jenny. Especially when both women are having nightmares, even though the desk is no longer in their possession. Then other strange things happen, and they know Jenny’s husband is behind it. But there is also something else odd about the desk. It is much heavier than it should be. Is it because whatever is crying out for help doesn’t want the desk moved or is it something else? There are really two stories in this book: Nikki and Scott’s D/s relationship and the mystery of the desk and the women’s terrifying reaction to it. Nikki is dubious about whether she is really a submissive and whether this relationship is working/can work for her marriage, and, as a result, there is a great deal of tension between her and Scott. There’s also a fabulous revisiting of Mellie and Max, as Mellie’s shop has an antique desk that Nikki covets and that Scott buys for her. And it’s that desk that’s the focus of most of this book – and it’s both scary and tense and intriguing. Why are only women hearing the desperate pleas for help? I have loved every Cape Danger book, and this is no exception. And again, Tessa Carr has managed to come up with a totally unexpected resolution and conclusion. I can’t wait for more – believe me, anything else I wrote here would be a spoiler!

Loved this book. It’s a story of two couples, Mellie and Max, and Nikki and Scott. Nikki and her husband have a D/S relationship to improve their marriage, but things don’t seem to be working. They discuss their feelings and try to work on their relationship. Mellie finds a desk at an auction, that has a strange affect on women who are close to it. Nikki loves the desk and Scott buys it for her. The desk is the focus on most of the story, it’s quite intriguing. This story is well written, with mystery and suspense, and I loved every single page of it.

This story is about two couples, Nikki & Scott and Mellie & Max. Mellie found a desk at an auction that Nikki fell in love with. But, there is something strange about the desk and only women are affected by it. We also follow Nikki and Scott as they reevaluate their D/s relationship. Scott doesn’t think that Nikki is happy and he wants her to be. Maybe submission isn’t right for Nikki? I liked the openness that Scott and Nikki had. They spoke openly to one another to see how each of them feel. I haven’t read the other 3 books in the series, but I think I’ll go back and check them out. Great story teller
This fourth book in the Cape Danger series by Tessa Carr was definitely a hot romantic suspense story with a heavy touch of domestic discipline life thrown in for good measure. A most entertaining and enjoyable aspect of the book was the suspense-filled adventure part of searching for the missing Jenny as well as dealing with the “ghostly” pull of the desk. Another of the things I have enjoyed about this series is the way Ms Carr has portrayed the dom/sub relationships between her main couples as loving and caring along with a whole lot of hot sexual activity, while at the same time still enforcing rules on the women with often painful consequences for violating them. I hope this is not the last book in this series, as I have enjoyed getting to know all the major characters. This is a voluntary review of this book from Booksprout for Blushing Books.
I began reading the series with ‘Ancient Gold’ and was not at all lost in the plot or characterization. Ms. Carr does a fabulous job jumping right into the heart of the story and at the same time keeps the storyline alive. The suspense level runs high with what was going on with the ‘haunted’ desk, and I had to keep reading well into the night to see where she was going with that plotline as well as seeing what Nikki and Scott would decide to do within the confines of their marriage. Will they continue to live a D/s lifestyle?
I’ve only read one other book in this series and although there are characters reappearing, these books can be read as standalone. Scott and Nikki are working through some issues in their marriage and look to D/s dynamic to help solve that problem. Then there is the mystery of “the desk” (scary music). I think the interesting thing for me about this book is that no relationship is cookie cutter, even D/s. It’s what works for the people involved. The book is a well paced, page turner from start to finish. Solid Read

This book brought me back to so many of the things I adored most about the first book in the series. What I was especially excited to see return was the heart-pounding suspense and creepy psychological thrill factor that made me fall in love with The Blue Lion. That this story is able to take scientific theory and turn it into something that more closely resembles paranormal events was an extra dash of spice to the mind-f*ckery of this plot. Their relationship, even though it’s already well established since Scott and Nikki are married, is shown to us in almost painstaking detail. There are discussions, and safe words, and negotiations to determine what works best for both of them. I loved that we get to see Scott and Nikki being open and vulnerable while discovering the right balance. I was particularly moved by the scene where Scott doesn’t know how to handle the instance where Nikki’s disobedience saves a life. As a doctor and a dom, he recognized that he sometimes has conflicting imperatives. I was quite impressed with how the situation was handled. This book has renewed my interest in seeing where the rest of the series will take us.
