Enjoyed the Ancient Enforcer will read more of Katie Reus books
Really enjoyed this story, and could imagine it making a big block buster movie. Imaginative and fresh world building kept my interest the whole time, and the relationship between the group of characters drew me in as they were compelling. The love story was great, as it was allowed to develop in a very real, believable way. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Oh, I really loved this one and have been waiting for Avery and Mikael’s story! And again for those who don’t know, I ABSOLUTELY LUUUUURRRRVVVVEEEE DRAGONSSSSS!!! LOL. Mikael is an ancient dragon, one of the best known for being an extremely well tracker, especially back in his day and he has fallen in love with his mate, Avery but she has no idea and he does not know how to express it to her, for fear that she will run away. Wow, the amount of chemistry between these two, was flaming, however, it took a while before Mikael realized he needed to make his move, Lol. When he did, Avery mistakenly thought it would be a friends with benefits relationship, well once Mikael understood what she meant, he quickly disavowed her of that idea. Avery had been through a lot and there was a reason for her to doubt that their relationship could last, but in my book, you should never doubt a dragon. Once they are in, they are all in! Filled with actions, past characters, suspense, and my all-time favorite character Prima, made for a fantastic and terrific read! Now the next book, is King and Aurora, and that story needs to be told. I believe it is obvious to both of them that they are mates but there is so much going on with the both of them, we will just have to see if Ms. Reus can get them to see that they truly belong together. 5 FANTASTIC, ROARING-FIRE LOVING, TERRIFIC STARS*****
****I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by NetGalley*****
It was so much fun watching the attraction evolve between Avery And Mikael. This was another great story in the series.
Great series. Loved the chemistry between Avery and Mikael. Action and suspense keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend this book.
My new Author to Read
I love the unique setting this series has; it adds so much interest to the entire plot & story lines!
Mikael is adorable & his fascination with Avery is fantastic. He is the kind of alpha that gives you the warm fuzzies. He is thoughtful, loving and will rip out the heart of willing to do harm to those he loves. Avery is great but a slight mess, she just needs to stop overthinking and feel. I loved the slow path they took to each other. I think it created a better story and I dare to say this is the best book in the series.
The third book in Ancients Rising, Ancient Enforcer, was an engaging read. The character interaction was edgy and entertaining, and the story was dynamic and intriguing. I would recommend this book and series to readers you are sure to love it as much as I did.
Great story line and strong characters. Good interplay of dialogue, actions and reactions. You don’t know how it is going to end until it ends.
3.75 Stars
Ancient Enforcer is the third book in the Ancients Rising series which is a spinoff of sorts from the Darkness series. There are cameo appearances from many of those characters who are the reason I enjoy this author’s books so much. I’ve fallen in love with this paranormal world she has created full of dragons, witches, shifters, demons and other supernatural beings.
Mikael was a honorable ancient dragon who had awoken from hibernation to a new world. When King placed Mikael and his brothers Cas and Ivyn at Avery’s home, he knew within minutes of meeting the beautiful human woman that she was his mate. Realizing Avery had suffered heartbreak in the past, he didn’t want to push so he waited patiently to make her his. Mikael was a great leading man! He was so sweet and thoughtful, and always made sure Avery had everything she needed with work and at home, and made sure she was safe.
Sadly, I struggled with my feelings toward Avery. I’m not a fan of cowardly women who like someone, but play stupid and ignore the signs that show the feelings are reciprocated. Mikael made it pretty freaking obvious he was interested in Avery, and that friend zone she put him in wasn’t fair to either of them. Further, for her to assume he would hurt her the same way her father hurt her mother, was not only unfair but was also insulting to the kind of man Mikael was. I’m probably being more critical here than normal, but I’m over this whole scenario and sick of reading stories with these kinds of women. Plus it took forever for Avery to finally come to terms with her feelings, so there wasn’t a lot of pages left for me to change my opinion of her.
Hunter was adorable! How wonderful it must be to have a pet baby dragon. King’s and Aurora’s book is next and I’m excited to see who finally makes the first move between them. I’m also hoping to learn more about all of Mikael’s brothers and these secret someones they’ve been seeing.
This is a phenomenal series. Mikael lost everything thousands of years ago. He and his brothers are ordered to live with Avery and her brother. Avery agrees to take them in and help but she never expected to fall for the sexy dragon shifter. In a world of chaos and threats will Avery and Mikael have a chance at love.
Ancient Enforcer is the third book in the Ancients Rising series – Avery and Mikael’s story. Although each book can be read as a standalone, the characters and overarching plot carry through the series, so they’re much better read in order. I love Katie Reus’s world-building – shifters, vampires, witches, and more – this book doesn’t disappoint in delivering romance & adventure.
Mikael and his brothers have been in hibernation for thousands of years. What happens when a dragon wakes from hibernation to life in the modern world? A world he finds that has changed and is in complete turmoil. Avery, a human, is helping King and others to rebuild New Orleans and has caught Mikael’s eye. With super naturals and humans living among each other, there is a world of different characters as life has changed especially for Mikael and his brothers. With suspense, drama, a burgeoning romance, and a real page turner for paranormal romance readers, “Ancient Enforcer” can be read as a standalone, and is one not to be missed. 4.5 Stars!
**I was gifted “Ancient Enforcer” via NetGalley and leave my review based on my reading.**
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Mikael is starting over with some people he knows and others he wants to get to know better. Avery has learned the hard way that she needs to fend for herself. I liked how the author made her a little gun-shy around Mikael so that she could build her story.
I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense the author started building at the beginning. I felt like I was watching a symphony being created. It’s like there were four parts that she was taking me through. It’s been a while since I read a paranormal and it must have been I was just waiting for this book.
We have the real mixed with the mystical. We have humans mixed with others. We have the plausible mixed with the unexplained. Part of why I love the paranormal is going back to my childhood growing up watching Star Trek. It showed that you just never know what is out there. Same with my love of mythology.
I loved the thrill that this gave me because I couldn’t figure out what was coming next. There was no second guessing what our author had in store for her characters. Our adventure is set in New Orleans. It seems as if that city is the mecca for the paranormal. I can see taking a vacation and having this book with me so I can experience this story in a more personal way. At the end, Avery gave me an idea as to the music I will have to have with me as I stroll down the streets. I’m looking forward to see what our author, and her characters, have forthcoming as this series continues.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Another wonderful book in this series! I am totally loving the world the Katie Reus has created and can’t get enough of these stories and characters.
Avery is strong, fierce, and in charge, but guards her heart. Mikael is an ancient dragon shifter who knows what he wants – and that would be Avery…except he knows if he pushes too hard, too fast, she’ll run. These two seemed like an unlikely pairing to me at first, but watching them form such a strong bond, first as friends (even though Mikael knows she is his!) and then as more, it was easy to see how well they fit together – even if Avery is in just a wee bit of denial about how deep her feelings were! And once Mikael finally acts on his feelings, I love how he was so candid about what he wanted and loved watching Avery’s startled reactions!
I loved the family dynamic that existed between Avery and her two brothers, who are human, and Mikael and his brothers, who are ancient dragon shifters. They have all suffered loss and seem to quickly form a family bond, which, when danger comes at them, only brings them closer together and stronger.
I absolutely love this world that Katie Reus has created. There are so many different types of supernaturals and I love how she weaves them all together to create this new world that is being rebuilt. I love when previous characters show up, and I love how the core group of characters in this series keeps expanding and becoming even more interesting. And I can’t forget to mention the dragonlings – I just love them!!
This is a book and series that I would highly recommend! Looking forward to the next one!!
An Outstanding Paranormal suspense Romance . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy through Netgalley of Ancient Enforcer .
This story is a fantastic paranormal suspense Romance . It’s full of sexy and strong shifters
both male and female and their perfect matches mates . This story is action packed , suspenseful and full of romance . Who doesn’t love shifters . This is Avery and Ancient Dragon Mikael’s story . Mikael and his dragon brothers live with Avery and her human brothers .Avery doesn’t trust love to last but she has deep feelings for Mikael . He has feelings for her knowing she is his mate . They struggle till they have to battle an ancient dark enemy from Mikael’s past . I could not put this story down . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
The third book in the Ancients Rising series focuses on Mikael and Avery.
I loved this one! It’s so funny reading these characters knowing they are in love with each other, but THEY don’t know. Mikael and Avery are so obvious it’s just endearing.
I really enjoyed this storyline. The showdown scenes were compelling and action packed. It probably helped there was a movie playing in the background of some intense fighting scene music and WOW it just made it even better. Avery is MUCH stronger that you think.
This entire series is rooted in family and it really comes into play in this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
I hope this series goes on forever! Always so much action, adventure and emotion. I love the characters. This is a great addition to the series. I really enjoyed Avery and Mikaels story. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
The third book in the Ancients Rising series, Ancient Enforcer focuses on Mikael and Avery. Mikael is an ancient dragon shifter new to New Orleans who falls in love with Avery, a human charged with looking after Mikael and his newly-awakened brothers. As Avery and her brothers help Mikael and his brothers acclimate to the modern world, their friendship turns to more. With enemies old and new threatening them, their family, and those they love, Mikael and Avery will do whatever it takes to protect them and each other.
Mikael and Avery have a wonderful friends-to-lovers romance. It’s pretty clear that they care for each other from the start. However, both resist acting on their feelings for fear of ruining the friendship as well as the friendships that have developed between their respective brothers. I like that Mikael and Avery don’t act selfishly or impulsively, and they respect each other and the friendship they created. They have a deep and lasting bond.
I also love the other dynamic relationships in the story. From King and Aurora to King’s relationship with his people to Avery’s strong friendships, the author does a wonderful job of highlighting the importance of love and family throughout this series. Mikael and his brothers, for example, lost most of their family centuries ago. However, they are warmly welcomed into the family by Avery and her brothers. They all develop a strong bond and begin to see each other as brothers. I love how loyal and dedicated they are to each other, and they prove that family is what you make of it.
Something that continues to amaze me in this series is the author’s skill in creating a unique and vivid world filled with a wide variety of supernatural beings. In Ancient Enforcer, much like Ancient Enemy, the people of New Orleans continue to rebuild after the global exposure of the supernatural. New hierarchies have been established, and it is interesting to see how humans, dragons, vampires, witches, and more figure out this new normal.
Speaking of new normal, we have another baby dragon! Hunter is the newest addition to the super-fantastic, charismatic, and lovable baby dragons, and he is a little ball of happy energy! I love Hunter and his playful antics. He is so lovable and silly, yet he shows such bravery and determination when it matters most. I adore the pet dragons and hope to see more in future books!
Finally, I just have to mention King’s story, which continues to intrigue me. He is a fearless and honorable leader who garners respect from the entire supernatural world. King’s relationship with Aurora is the slowest-building romance ever, and I’m totally here for it! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for King, Aurora, and all of the other characters in the series!
I highly recommend Ancient Enforcer to readers that enjoy urban fantasies with unique characters, a ton of pulse-pounding action, great world-building, and a fantastic friends-to-lovers romance. Plus, there are dragons!!
Though this is the third book in the Ancients Rising series, it can be read as a standalone. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Ancient Enforcer is the third book in the Ancients Rising series. The ancients in question are dragons who have been asleep for thousands of years but have now awakened into a post-apocalyptic world where paranormals are now the superior species on the food chain. Warrior Mikael and his two brothers have been billeted with human Avery and her two brothers. Mikael soon realises that she is his mate but before he can claim her he must first find out why she has been drawn the attention of a dangerous vampire.
While I like this series there are a couple of things that niggle at me. First of all, the dragons, supposed all alphas themselves are happy to take orders from a wolf with no hesitation – that just makes them seems a bit docile to me. Who knows – maybe they’re still half asleep! Also, with this book itself I felt there was a lot going on in the background where things were hinted at but not fully explained such as where did both sets of brothers keep disappearing off to? And also the story behind the key. Perhaps these things will be fully gone into in future books. These points didn’t stop me from enjoying the book but I just felt we only got half the story. I do love how the series focus’s more about friendships and loyalty rather than material things but I wish King would man up and tell Aurora how he feels even though his new baby dragon Hunter – who is probably my favourite character in this book – might not be too happy at having to share his affections.
