She should be his mortal enemy.Ancient dragon shifter Rhys awoke from his slumber hungry for revenge against the witch who killed his sister. When his hunt takes him to the rebuilding city of New Orleans, he finds a woman he can’t keep his eyes off—but she’s a witch. While Rhys wants to despise all of Dallas’s kind, even he can’t deny that she’s beautiful, kind and…adorable. And her pet baby … her pet baby dragon only increases his fascination with the sexy woman. Protective instincts he never knew he had take over him as they hunt powerful monsters. He’s forced to confront everything he thought he knew about witches as his life is turned upside down.
But he wants her anyway.
Dallas Kinley is used to being hated because of what she is. Witches have always been the pariahs of the supernatural community. Until now, when the world needs rebuilding. Even though she wants to keep her distance from Rhys, vampires and humans are dying in New Orleans, so she vows to help him hunt down those responsible. But finding the enemy comes at a heavy price, because Dallas is hiding a terrible secret. As they race against the clock to find the murderers, she can only hope his need for revenge won’t rip them apart. Especially when he finds out what she’s been hiding from him.
Author note: Book can be read as a stand-alone complete with HEA.

Dallas Kinley is a powerful witch, but more important she’s a caring and loving woman. It bothered me that others judged her for what she was. Dallas lives on her farm away from all the activity in New Orleans. Her companion is her pet – a baby dragon. She needs to keep Willow a secret. This adorable pet stole my heart. She’s so cute. When Dallas meets an ancient dragon shifter, she’s determined that he won’t hurt Willow. Rhys is on the hunt for his sister’s killer who was a witch. Rhys will finally get his revenge. Dallas can help him find the killer. Unfortunately he is attracted to Dallas and to Willow. He’s impressed by her goodness and his feelings grow stronger as he works with this witch. I was surprised that Rhys acknowledges his change of heart. It was romantic to see this big, bad dragon fall for Dallas. The story is intense with dark magic and a merciless evil witch who is power mad. I liked catching up with familiar characters. I really want King to make Aurora his mate. Katie Reus did a great job with this book, Ancient Enemy. It was romantic, exciting and had the cute baby dragon. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in the Ancients Rising series.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
I love this series. As soon as I start reading one of her paranormals, I’m immediately drawn into the story and don’t want to stop reading. It’s always a fast read for me. As always, I love the new characters and enjoy seeing the previous ones. Wonderful emotions and lots of action. I’m ready for the next one!
Ancient Enemy is the second book in the Ancients Rising series and features Rhys, the younger brother of Lachlan from the first book. Rhys has been in hibernation for millennia after being driven to the point of insanity by the brutal murder of his baby sister Eilidh at the hands of Catta, an evil witch who was desperate to gain immortality by using black magic powered by dragons blood. Now he has awoken with the sole purpose of avenging Eilidh’s death by tracking down and destroying Catta no matter the cost to himself. While hunting in the post apocalyptic setting of New Orleans, as a favour to the Alpha in return for being allowed to stay in his territory, he reluctantly agrees to help as and when required. One of his tasks brings him into contact with Dallas Kinsey, a witch who will make him question all his preconceptions and prejudices about witches but can Dallas really be trusted? After all everyone has secrets and hers just might be the biggest one of all.
I loved this book. I’m not generally a huge fan of the PNR genre but Katie Reus has a knack of creating characters and their worlds with a style of writing that draws you in and leaves you wanting to know more. The true star of this book though has to be Willow. I dare anyone reading this book not to fall in love with her and want their own baby dragon. The story itself is one of revenge and ultimately redemption as both the hero and heroine carry their own guilt – Rhys over the death of his sister and Dallas with her tainted bloodline. I can’t wait to see who’s up next to meet their destiny in the Ancients Rising series.
Although part of a series this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger and comes with a HEA so it can be read as a standalone but I’d recommend reading in order if only to help keep all the other characters straight.
Ancient Enemy focuses on Rhys, a recently awakened ancient dragon-shifter who is searching for his sister’s killer, a witch Rhys believes is in New Orleans. Dallas, a witch who is tasked with helping to rebuild the gardens and food sources in New Orleans, might be able to help Rhys find the witch that he’s hunting. But Rhys’s mission is sidetracked when King, the Alpha and leader of New Orleans, sends the pair to investigate missing vampires and humans.
When Dallas is called to New Orleans to help rebuild the city, her main concern is protecting her pet dragon. She likes her peaceful existence on her farm but is selfless and eager to help others. She doesn’t plan on helping to solve a case that might involve witches, nor does she expect to have feelings for the hunky dragon-shifter who has sworn to protect her. What will Dallas do when the case, and Rhys’s mission, point toward someone from Dallas’ past?
This is the second book in the Ancients Rising series, and it is just as action-packed and chemistry-laden as the first. With well-developed characters and an interesting premise, Ancient Enemy gripped me from the start.
Dallas and Rhys are both dynamically developed characters. Dallas is a powerful witch who has been a victim of prejudice her entire life. Witches are looked down upon by other paranormals, so she is used to keeping her distance from others. However, once in New Orleans, she finds herself surrounded by paranormals that are vastly different than she expects. Dallas is treated with respect and kindness, and it is great to see her slowly let down her defenses, especially with Rhys.
Rhys begins the story hate-filled and revenge-fueled. Rhys blames himself for the death of his beloved sister, and his only desire is to kill the witch who murdered her. However, as he spends time with Dallas and her adorable pet dragon Willow, he changes. He sees a future for himself, where before he only saw death.
I love that Rhys and Dallas give each other hope and show each other that they have a connection and a future worth fighting for. Their connection is strong, even though they both try to fight it, and their slow-building romance is fantastic! Furthermore, the depth of feelings that Rhys shows for Dallas is positively swoon-worthy! Rhys is adorably sweet when he plays with Willow, and his caring and protective nature when he takes care of Willow and Dallas transforms his broody personality.
We also get to see the sibling bond between Rhys, Cody, and Lachlan, which is fantastic. Though they haven’t been together in centuries, their connection is clear and lovely. I also love that, though these characters have strong sibling relationships, they don’t discount the wonderful family-like friendships that they have. They value their relationships and remain loyal to those that are important to them. It reminded me of the strong connection between Star, Aurora, and the rest of Star’s pack in the last book.
By the way, we do see Star, Aurora, and the crew in this story as well. It’s great to see Aurora gaining confidence and strength, and her slow-building relationship with King is amazing! I love that he has such deep feelings for her but holds back until she is ready. He’s more interested in her well-being than his own happiness and desires, and I love that! I’m totally rooting for this couple and hoping that their love story continues in the next book!
And then there’s Willow, Dallas’ lovable and endearing dragon. I adored her! She has a spunky personality that endears her to everyone, and her playful, sweet personality breaks the societal prejudices surrounding egg-hatched dragons. I love that she and Dallas are the opposite of what people expect, and they both, through their kindness and selflessness, show others that their prejudices are misguided.
In addition to all of the well-developed characters, the story is also dynamic. It’s a world where supernatural beings don’t hide. Recently exposed to the human world, they are adjusting to a new normal and attempting to rebuild the world after an epic battle brought much destruction. I like that in Ancient Protector, we see the destruction and break-down of the old world, the world where supernaturals had to hide who they were, and in this book, we see the aftermath and rebuilding of society. The way that this propels the plot and develops the characters while continually building an immersive supernatural world is impressive.
I highly recommend Ancient Enemy to readers that like shifter romances with unique characters and a fantastic romance. Plus, there are dragons!! Though this is the second book in the Ancients Rising series, it can be read as a standalone.
Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Ancient Enemy is action packed. Dragon shifter Rhys awakes with revenge on his mind. Rhys is determined to hunt down the witch that killed his sister. Dallas has always been hated by supernaturals for being a witch. When Rhys and Dallas team up to find killers will secrets be revealed. Will the truth tear these two apart.
Now THIS is what I’m talking about! Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first novel in the series (Ancient Protector). I don’t like the dystopian genre. But it would be helpful to read that book before you read this one. It lays out the groundwork of what’s going on for the entire series. I didn’t much care for that book, but this one changed it all.
There are two stories in one going on. One is with Rhys and Dallas and the other is between King and Aurora (I want their story so bad!). Rhys is a dragon shifter bent on revenge for the death of his sister at the hands of a witch named Catta. He’s been in hibernation for over a thousand years and has awakened with the intent to destroy Catta, even if it costs him his own life. He’s tracking her down and his search lands him in New Orleans and with another witch who is Dallas.
Rhys hates all witches because of what happened to his sister, but he soon discovers that judging everything or everyone based on the actions of a few is foolish (we should all learn that lesson) and he is seriously attracted to Dallas, but keeps it under wraps as long as he can.
He escorts her around the city, looking for garden plots, as per King’s request, when vampires and humans start disappearing. King moves them to find out what’s happening to them, especially since Dallas is a witch. King doesn’t like witches any more than Rhys does, but he knows Dallas is different.
Dallas…just wow. I felt so bad for her. She knows everybody hates witches and she’s been abandoned and hurt by past friends and lovers because of it. So now when she meets people for the first time, she announces she’s a witch so people will leave her before she gets attached to them. She’s isolated herself on her little farm where she has goats, plants, and trees and a little dragonling named Willow.
Oh, everyone hates dragons, too because they destroyed the world with The Fall. Very few are welcome in New Orleans and Dallas goes to extremes to keep Willow hidden from everybody. I thought the scenario was just sad. Dallas is trying to do good. Some people are more accepting than others. She was just as attracted to Rhys as he was to her, but she knew once Catta was dead and he found out who Dallas really was, he’d leave and never want to see her again and she would be alone…again.
I actually shed a few tears while I read this. It was so easy to get caught up in the relationship between Dallas and Rhys and even Willow, who acts more like a dog than a dragon. It’s so cute to watch her with Rhys, who is teaching her how to be a dragon and she adores him. I thought that added some emotion to the story. I digress. There were some great feels, a few chills, some tense moments, suspense, some pretty toasty love scenes between Rhys and Dallas, and it was just an all-around great read.
I alluded to the secondary plot of King and Aurora. It’s tricky to keep two plots going on in one book without one overshadowing the other. This was done perfectly. I got what I wanted with Rhys and Dallas and the author left me wanting more of King and Aurora.
Fantastic read!
This is book two in The Ancient’s Rising series and it is Rhys and Dallas story and WOW what a story it is. Rhys is searching for the witch that killed his sister and he goes to New Orleans to start his search. Dallas is a witch and she has a pet dragon and she is used to people disliking her. Rhys and Dallas have a chemistry that is so strong between them that cannot be denied but there are evil forces killing others and they will have to work together to try and protect and help others. There are so many twists and turns along the way but you have to keep turning the page’s to see what will happen next and I couldn’t put this book down. Katie Reus is an amazing author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy of this book.
ANCIENT ENEMY (Ancients Rising Book 2) By Katie Reus
This is book 2 in the new Ancients Rising series. This one is as good as the 1st book. I love a dragon shifter. (Maybe because my high school mascot was a red dragon?) Rhys is newly awakened from his hibernation and now is on the hunt for the witch that killed his sister. He finds that things are not always as they seem. Dallas has a great heart and doesn’t have an evil bone in her body. Willow a baby dragon, almost steals the show in this book. I loved her and everyone in the story did too. Rhys and Dallas are a great couple. We get to visit with old friends. This is a 5 star read.

Ancient Enemy by Katie Reus
2nd book in the Ancients Rising series. Better is read in series order but can be read as a stand-alone. Paranormal romantic suspense.
The world changed when dragons decided to take over the world. After the battles were over, paranormals greatly outnumbered humans and now rule the government and the rebuilding cities.
Rhys is searching for the witch that killed his sister. His plan is revenge and death even if he doesn’t survive. Dallas left her coven years ago because she didn’t like the lies and dark magic. They work together to help rebuild New Orleans and track down the missing humans and vampires.
Fast moving and suspenseful. Great chemistry and sexy interactions.
Love dragonling Willow. So adorable.
I appreciated and enjoyed the “play” time they all engaged in. Realizing your troupes need down time just as much as discipline is critical .
Excerpt:
“He’d never seen this ridiculously playful side of her before, not fully. And he liked it. Despite the tension that seemed to live in his shoulders, he couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face.
“Is King turning down a challenge?” Marco, one of his youngest wolves, walked out of the shadows in human form, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He was a warrior, not a beta, but he wasn’t challenging King.
“I’m pretty sure he did.” Aurora’s grin was infectious.
Sighing, King stripped off his jacket and tossed it to Marco. “Let’s do this.”
“So what’s the challenge?” Marco asked.
“It’s not actually a challenge,” Aurora said as they started across the lawn where various shifters were patrolling or just relaxing. “He’s just going to deflect my lightning bolts with his magic sword to blow off some steam.”
Marco let out a low whistle. “Oh, hell yeah. The whole pack will want to watch this. I’m gonna take bets on how many he can hit.”
“You gotta do better than that,” Aurora said. “It should be more along the lines of how many he can hit per minute. Otherwise that’s just sad because you know he’s going to hit all of them.” “I’m right here!” King said, even as he fought another grin. When he was around her, he felt decades younger. He didn’t have the weight of his people, his city, on his shoulders. He was just King.”
Excerpt from Ancient Enemy by Katie Reus
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.
Rhys thinks he needs a Dallas for revenge. These two have instant, intense chemistry. There’s still much unrest in the city. Rhys and Dallas work together to help King. Lots of action and intrigue. Omg, I want my own Willow!
Rhys is an ancient dragon shifter, recently arisen from a centuries long hibernation following the murder of his sister. Intent on vengeance against the witch who killed his sister, his hunt leads him to New Orleans where he will have to confront everything he thought he knew. He is tasked by King, the Alpha of New Orleans, with protecting the witch who will help develop additional gardens to keep the population fed. His agreement is hesitant but he knows he owes it to King.
Dallas is used to being judged for what she is. Born a witch, she has always kept her distance from others, though she is known for her ability to nurture a garden. She is determined to do as little harm as possible. When King asks for her help in setting up neighborhood gardens throughout New Orleans, she reluctantly leaves her little haven in order to make sure the people around her have what they need.
Dallas and Rhys explore New Orleans, they find themselves also searching for whoever is behind a rash of human and vampire murders. Working together, they each have their own agendas, but the secrets they keep may rip apart the peace they have found working together.
I quickly fell in love with both Rhys and Dallas, and Dallas’s pet dragon, Willow. I loved the addition of Willow, a true dragonling, and the preconceived notions her presence in the story forced the characters to address. Rhys is determined and rigid, but he is also loyal and invested in protecting those around him. Dallas has a kind-heart and would do anything to help her neighbors. The two of them working together was a recipe for success as they would go to all lengths to make things right.
This came at the perfect time for me. I loved the diversion of PNR and shifters. This story stands alone nicely, though there are returning characters from Ancient Protector. The return to this version of New Orleans is a perfect blend of post-apocalypse, paranormal, and romance. I cannot wait for more from this world, and am most excited to learn more about King, the alpha of New Orleans.
ANCIENT ENEMY is the second instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult ANCIENTS RISING erotic, paranormal romance series. This is ancient dragon shifter Rhys of the Donnachaidh clan in Scotland, and witch Dallas Kinley’s story line. ANCIENTS RISING is a spin off from the author’s DARKNESS but you do not have to have read the original series to follow the current time line.
Told from several third person perspectives including Rhys and Dallas ANCIENT ENEMY follows in the aftermath of The Fall in which a group of dragons made an attempt to destroy the world but in doing so revealed the existence of the supernatural to humankind. Following a thousand years in hibernation, ancient dragon shifter awakens and goes in search of the witch who killed his sister thousands of years earlier only to discover his attraction to a woman who should be his mortal enemy. Enter powerful with Dallas Kinley, and the woman with whom Rhys will fall in love. When a number of vampires and humans go missing, Dallas and Rhys go in search of the truth only to discover the truth hits too close to home. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dallas and Rhys, and the potential fall-out as the witch Rhys seeks continues to wreak havoc on the world of the paranormal.
The relationship between Rhy and Dallas is one of immediate attraction but Dallas has no idea that Rhys’ dragon has found his mate. Unable to stay away, Rhys becomes guardian and protector of the witch he has sworn to hate, a witch whose own past is has been marred by dark power and hate. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and supernatural secondary and supporting characters including New Orlean’s alpha wolf King, and the phoenix Aurora; wolf Darius, snow leopard Bella, lion shifter Axel, tiger Harlow, Lola, and tiger Brielle; half demon Cynara; Rhys’ brothers Lachlan (and Star) and Cody, and of course Dallas’ ‘pet’ Willow.
ANCIENT ENEMY is a story of betrayal and vengeance; power and control; family, friendships, relationships and love. The fast paced premise is energetic and entertaining; the characters are dynamic and powerful; the romance is sexy and sweet. ANCIENT ENEMY is a wonderfully, exciting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This story had it all, dragon shifter, witch, baby dragonling, unicorn and more shifters! I have to say baby Willow, the pet dragonling just about stole the book but definitely the readers’ hearts. There is so much in this story to enjoy. It’s such an interesting story and we learn more about New Orleans after The Fall.
Rhys, brother to Lachlan from the first book in this series, has arrived in New Orleans a year after he’s risen from hibernation after being overwhelmed for revenge for his sister Eilidh’s murder. He’s after the witch that tortured his little sister and killed her fully expecting to die in his quest for vengeance. He finds himself drawn to New Orleans tracking Catta through his sister’s blood scent. King, alpha werewolf of New Orleans gives him the job of protecting the witch Dallas Kinley as she searches for garden plots within the city to provide food for King’s people. She’s an earth witch who uses her magic to enhance the growth of plants helping produce more yield from them. Rhys is hoping Dallas and her task will help him locate Catta.
Dallas has a pet dragonling, Willow who is just plain cute. She steals everyone’s heart that meets her. Historically dragons (not shifters) are dangerous creatures but Willow breaks the mold wanting to herd goats and flying around crookedly while she grows into her wings. Dallas is also hiding the secret that Catta is her birth mother who is everything Dallas isn’t. Catta is evil and Dallas left her as soon as she could and has been keeping her distance ever since. In this story we find out just how powerful Dallas has become and the power of teamwork to bring down evil. Rhys finds that love is more powerful than vengeance and evil. What an awesome story. I can’t wait to find out more about King and Aurora’s story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the second book in this series and is a spin off from the darkness series This is Rhys’s story he is the brother of Lachlan who starred in Ancient Protector the first book in the series and this picks up almost from where that book ends.
Rhys has awoken and he is determined to find the witch that drained and killed his sister he has centuries to stew on his thoughts of vengeance which has led to a hatred of all things witch He is inexplicable drawn to New Orleans where they are trying to rebuild the city Once he arrives he meets Dallas and is instantly attracted but she is a witch the one thing he hates but he has been tasked with helping her and soon his protective instincts kick in Can he realise that not all witches are evil and give what he and Dallas have a chance You will have to read to see But I can tell you one thing you are going to fall in love with a little dragonling called Willow who almost steals the entire book.
If you are already into or want to dip your literary toe in the romance waters of dangerous drama filled paranormal shifter romances, special ops, and/or private security themed tales, Katie Reus could likely really rock your world, folks. Especially if sizzling hot instant attraction, alpha possessive, protective heroes and perfect for them sassy heroines float your boat, as well. Those are common elements in all her books.
In this particular case and series, dragon shifters rule the roost. Well, with a lot of help from their old and newly acquainted shifter friends (witches, vampires, lions, tigers, and bears..Oh, my!). Each book is a steamy stand-alone but connected to the same on-going, world upheaval conflict.
Rhys, the hero, wasn’t looking for love, but it sure found him. In fact, his dragon heart was brimming over with a searing to the soul, unquenchable thirst for revenge, leaving no room for anything else. However, one look at Dallas, the knocked his scales and socks right off, gorgeous, powerful witch, and he was the one done for. Even the big secret between them did not phase him when push came to shove. Yeah, there was no knuckleheaded thinking, hesitation, or moments of doubt on his part, my fellow romance book loving friends.
Dallas did a time or two question their future together. Mainly because she just didn’t quite give this dedicated dragon his full due. Steadfast and loyal seemed to run through his veins as pure as his dragon blood. He always had her back, right from the get go. Sacrifice and a strong will to see good triumph over evil were some of Dallas’s driving forces.
Oddly, despite everyone cooing, gushing, and loving on Dallas’s baby pet dragon, Willow, I struggled with trying to capture a realistic mental vision of that fictional creature. I think it all started when it was compared to a rhinoceros. For some reason, I couldn’t get that image out of my head. I kept picturing a huge, awkward rhino with small bat like wings! Yeah, color me crazy, but I didn’t think it was scripted to fit the cute as a button image meant to be portrayed. Since it was mentioned a lot, it irked me I wasn’t enchanted by the supposedly little, big guy. Ultimately, I had to create my own version in my head and just roll with the general concept.
What I do know is this author never seems to fail to deliver me likable main couples I can’t help but root for. Here’s to hoping this review has been helpful to you in some way and that you’ll feel the same.

Blurb :
She should be his mortal enemy.
Ancient dragon shifter Rhys awoke from his slumber hungry for revenge against the witch who killed his sister. When his hunt takes him to the rebuilding city of New Orleans, he finds a woman he can’t keep his eyes off—but she’s a witch. While Rhys wants to despise all of Dallas’s kind, even he can’t deny that she’s beautiful, kind and…adorable. And her pet baby dragon only increases his fascination with the sexy woman.
As they race against the clock to find the murderers, she can only hope his need for revenge won’t rip them apart. Especially when he finds out what she’s been hiding from him.
My review :
Will his need for vengeance come between him and a brighter future …
After reading the previous book, impossible to miss the next and those to come after.
There is everything here to keep you on edge, dragons, tigers, wolves, lions, witches, vampires and so on.
From sexy shifter dragons to their mythical animal counterpart, to a powerful witch linked to her land, then a surprising alpha wolf manipulating magic, or a lion testing everyone’s patience, this book is a nonstop adventure with plenty of sexy or fun times.
Rhys has been for so long driven by his need for revenge he forgot everything else. His family, his clan but also he does not know anymore what it is to live.
Until a young witch awakens feelings and sensations deeply buried. If he will see past her specie, he will learn there is much more to her than he always thought about her congeners.
Dallas has lived with this hate against her own all her life, as if her lot wore the blame of the world.
If so, religious people, politicians should be hated or to follow this series plot, dragons and dragon shifters.so it is understandable, she prefers to keep to herself or loneliness than deception and betrayal when people turn their back to her once they know who she is.
So the encounter of Rhys and Dallas is like mixing fire and oil, it is to be explosive. Yet, they are no immature younglings, they take the measure of the other and are able to accept when they were wrong. Up to them to be more if they can let the past go.
5 stars
Can’t wait for Avery and Mikael story and later King and Aurora’s.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

An Amazing and Outstanding Paranormal Romance . I absolutely love this story . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Ancient Enemy through Netgalley . I couldn’t put it down . This story is book two in the Ancient Rising series and these series just get better and better .
Ancient dragon shifter Rhys awakes just as angry and vengeful as when he was before hibernation . He arrives in New Orleans and meets the beautiful and kind witch Dallas Kinley . Rhys is searching for the witch who betrayed and killed his baby sister . Dallas has secrets that could destroy the growing feelings between her and Rhys . Dallas and Rhys are in for the fight of their lives . The story has everything I look for in a paranormal romance action , suspense , close ship bonds , strong heros and heroines . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
Ancient Enemy (Ancients Rising #2) by Katie Reus…. I’m loving this series..this second book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Rhys(dragon shifter) Dallas (witch) he is seeking revenge against the witch who killed his sister. Dallas doesn’t belong to a coven..she is a farmer and loves the land. There is danger, evil, shape shifters, and a strong attraction between Rhys and Dallas that can’t be denied. There are some old friends we meet again and plenty of steam and angst to get us to a very HEA. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I strongly advise reading Ancient Protector. I can’t wait for Ancient Enforcer.
Ancient dragon shifter Rhys has awoken from his century long hibernation. Time has not dulled his thirst for vengeance against the witch who killed his sister. He tracks the witch to New Orleans but instead finds himself enthralled by a beautiful woman, who is also a witch.
I quite enjoyed this book. Rhys was mentioned by Lachlan in the previous books but he was still hibernating at that point. Rhys is a protective, angry, and arrogant dragon shifter who falls for the enemy. I really liked him and his determination to avenge his sister. I really loved how he took care of Dallas and protected her. He makes sure she doesn’t forget to live and spend time with her friends while trying to find the evil witches. I just loved how caring he became towards her.
Dallas was a fascinating witch. I wish we could have seen more of her abilities because she was very powerful. She was a kind, generous, but protective woman. She has spent so much of her life alone that she doesn’t even realize how lonely she has been until she meets Rhys. I just adored these two.
My favorite thing about this book though, was Willow. Willow was an adorable baby dragon who just kept being adorable. I loved how she helped out on the farm and protected her family. She was just a perfect animal companion. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, which I hope will be King and Aurora’s book.
**ARC provided by Netgalley for an honest review.**
Great second story in the series. So looking forward to the next book.
