In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Neil Gaiman returns to the territory of his masterpiece, American Gods (soon to be a Starz Original Series) to once again probe the dark recesses of the soul.
God is dead. Meet the kids.
Fat Charlie Nancy’s normal life ended the moment his father dropped dead on a Florida karaoke stage. Charlie didn’t know his dad was a god. And he never knew he had a … his dad was a god. And he never knew he had a brother. Now brother Spider is on his doorstep—about to make Fat Charlie’s life more interesting . . . and a lot more dangerous.

Neil Gaiman has one of the most distinctive narrative voices I’ve ever read. He seamlessly blends the real world, and even current pop culture, with fantasy, and in such a droll way–as if, Well, of course you can move between worlds and dimensions. Of course there’s a cave at the end/beginning of the world where the gods hang out. Why wouldn’t …
I first encountered Anansi in American Gods, this book continues with his sons. The mythos is interesting, entertaining, and sometimes scary. (Tiger stories end in blood.) Fat Charlie and Spider are great main characters. Neil Gaiman doesn’t disappoint.
Neil Gaiman always delivers a twist to the story – and the world with his original take on old old stories…and does it with humor and hat-wearin’ STYLE!
“American Gods” was terrific, but this was even better. What would you do it you found out your father was a god? Fat Charlie isn’t sure he really believes it – even after his half brother, Spider, shows up and strange things start to happen, including Spider liking Fat Charlie’s life so much he steals his girlfreind and his job. This isn’t the …
Everybody loves an underdog, and Fat Charlie is no exception. This book is magical and fun, with exceptional characters as usual. I don’t believe there are sex scenes, but there is some talk, some behind closed doors action- for people that want to know.
Gaimon never fails to entertain. He is very original in his stories as well. They are never “same old, same old”. Also highly recommend “Good Omens”.
Awesome novel by one of my favorites. Fantasy at its best
Gaiman is a master.
Reading this book made me realize that I’d found a new favorite author. I’d read and loved Good Omens (written with Terry Pratchett) and American Gods (which I’ve probably read 5 times), but this one just clinched it for me. Great characters, funny writing as well as can’t put it down suspenseful. If you love great fantasy or just great writing, …
I enjoyed the blend of varied cultural beliefs and family dynamics. Tricksters and envy and jealousy and greed and love stories combine. I want to hear Charlie sing!
I’m Neil Gaiman’s biggest fan. I’ll visit his worlds any day
This is not really a sequel to Gaiman’s “American Gods,” though it is advertised as such. Rather, it is a different sort of story, with a different set of characters, set in the same universe around the same time (more or less now).
The story is about Fat Charlie Nancy, who isn’t really fat and whose last name (the rather unlikely Nancy) comes …
just a word of worning. If you need neatly packaged stories that fit into your lifestyle, don’t read this. I loved meandering through Fat Charlie and Spider’s world and let my imagination take over as the events unfolded. I truly enjoyed almost every moment after I let loose!
All his stuff is good.
Brilliantly written!
If you’re hoping this will be a continuation of American Gods, you will be sorely disappointed. Other than a God being in it, there is no connection at all.
It was a unique story. One that I’m still on the fence as to whether I can say if I really liked it or not. It was gripping, with each moment having the reader wanting to understand. There was …
Neil Gaiman once again creates a fascinating world full of complex and interesting characters. The story started out a little slow, but really picks up once all the characters are laid out. Thoroughly enjoyable and a unique read.
I had trouble keeping up with the story line but I still enjoyed it. If you haven’t read this author before you may not quite get this book.
I recommend everything by this author!
Gaiman is a proven author and his books never disappoint.
