Falling in love with her sister’s suitor had never been part of her plan. After losing her parents, Elizabeth Watts and her two sisters are taken under the care of their great-aunt, who has promised them her estate upon her death. From a young age, however, Elizabeth has learned not to expect to keep things that can be taken away. An unforeseen change in the will reveals that Elizabeth and her … reveals that Elizabeth and her sisters may have the estate, but only if the eldest weds Dr. Luke Pembroke, their great-aunt’s beloved physician, who needs the estate just as desperately as they do.
Knowing her sister to be in love with another, Elizabeth is appalled when she begins courting Dr. Pembroke, intent to sacrifice her own happiness. Nothing if not determined, Elizabeth makes plans to sabotage the courtship. With her schemes underway, she quickly learns that her sister’s suitor is nothing if not clever—nothing except, perhaps, handsome, kind, and infuriatingly charming. When the feelings between them become impossible to ignore, Elizabeth discovers that love has a scheme all its own, and it might just be the most determined of all.

This story, simpIy, is beautiful. Elizabeth is funny, loyal, full of mischief, and an easy heroine to root for. I’m crossing all my fingers that Ashtyn chooses to write books for Martha and Luke’s sisters, even though this is a part of a series with 3 other authors.
What I liked – I like how Elizabeth grows as a character. At first, she is very juvenile. Her mischief is very juvenile and she keeps getting caught in her lies. Yet, she persists. Fortunately, she eventually learns her lesson and asks for forgiveness. I also like Luke. He’s smart, determined, and a great book boyfriend. There are also several scenes that are quite funny.
What I did not like – I’m not a fan of the first person narrative. I felt that this slowed down the book for me. I kept wondering why it took me so long to read and I’m guessing this had something to do with it. I feel that the first person narrative makes it difficult to know the other characters. I also wasn’t too big of a fan of the ending and how the conflict was resolved. In fact, Elizabeth asked the very question I was hoping would be the resolution. Yet, for some reason, the author solved it a different way.
In the end, I liked the general plot and storyline, I just wasn’t a fan of how it was delivered.
Romance – PG / kissing
Language – PG / clean
My rating – 4 stars
An Unwelcome Suitor is a true delight to read. I loved the main characters! Luke likes matching wits with Elizabeth who is determined to stop his courtship of her eldest sister. The responsibility shown by the eldest siblings and the closeness of the siblings adds depth to the book. The plot has some twists and turns. There is a great HEA. I would recommend this to historical romance readers, clean/wholesome romance readers, and to Regency romance readers. I got my copy through KU.
This book was good, though it was hard for me to get into. I have no idea why it’s referenced as “Christian” in any shape, form, or fashion. To me, faith is exactly what was missing from the book, though it was a good read. I’m giving it four stars as it really didn’t hold my interest, as it moved a tad slow. Maybe it was just me, since I really don’t like first person narrative, but it definitely wasn’t “Christian” fiction that I’m used to. It was a sweet/clean read, which I appreciate, but saying that everything is left up to “fate” or “luck” is not Christian in my book. If you’re looking for “Christian” keep looking, there are plenty out there. If you’re looking for sweet/clean, this is for you.
Wonderful story! I loved the characters and their individuality. They are very well written. I love the sweet, clean, and unexpected love story. The love of family is so important in this story too. The ending is perfect! I definitely recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
Super fun story full of mischief and mishaps all in the name of love. A dose of wit and charm mixed with a double dose of romance. Excellent story!

I loved this story. The characters were very likable and the moral about love and sacrifice was believable. Eliza and Luke were perfect for each other. Duty was keeping them apart but a miracle can bring everyone happiness. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing
This is one of those times that I know authors would say, “sorry not sorry” because you stay up until 5AM reading their book all in one sitting.
I loved the witty banter between Elizabeth and Luke, and the mischief she got into was hilarious. There was a great chemistry between them, and they played off each other well.
On the serious side, this book also focused on being selfless and giving up someone you love because you were obligated to help your family. Your decisions do not only affect yourself.
I was worried with how things would wrap up in the end, but I was very happy with the outcome.
An Unwelcome Suitor is part of the Entangled Inheritance series. Each book is written by a different author and is a stand-alone.
I’m a lover of innuendo and this story fulfills that love. Poor Dr Pembroke had his hands full with Elizabeth and her schemes. I love how cleverly he gets her to get tangled in her own web of tricks. This book was funny and will keep you reading. I totally enjoyed it.
