In this enemies-to-lovers regency romance by USA TODAY bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, an independent woman and a rake in love come to realize that the heart will not be denied…no matter how ill-advised its desire may prove.CHRISTINE DANSBY never wanted marriage. While love and passion certainly seem appealing, they more often than not burn out, turning into resentment … into resentment and animosity. No, Christine definitely doesn’t want marriage. Love and passion without marriage however…
Indeed, there’s one man in Christine’s life whose overbearing attitude and maddening opinions have never failed to make her heart beat faster. The moment they step into the same room, they cannot help but snap at one another, and yet, the fire in his blue eyes makes her seek his presence again and again. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Christine delights in the fact that he wants marriage even less than she does. Does that not make him utterly perfect for her?
WESLEY EVERETT, brother to the EARL OF HARRINGTON, never wanted marriage…at least not until he meets his new sister-in-law’s sister. Although every word to leave Christine’s mouth riles him, Wesley cannot stop thinking about her. Passionate and headstrong, she is a far cry from the dull misses who seek his attention, hoping for a proposal. Awed by her daring spirit, Wesley finally realizes that he cannot allow her to disappear from his life again.
And so he proposes…and she says ‘no’, ready with a proposal of her own. One he can never accept.

Bree’s books are always charming and this one is no different! Perfect to while away a scorching hot afternoon in the shade or a cold winter night in front of the fire.
This was such a cute book! Truly an enjoyable read.
An other great fun romance from an eccellent writer
This book had me in stiches from beginning to end. The back and forth banter between the main characters was delightful. Bree Wolf female characters are usually strong, independent women, who refuse to be any man’s property. Usually they have the means to avoid conforming to conventional norms. In “An Unwelcome Proposal”, Christine Dansby has met her match as Wesley Everrett has no intentions of conforming either. Everything about him irritates her ,and she drives him crazy. Thus the hilarious insults covered in sweet charm they toss about. Yet, in true Bree Wolf fashion, the insults hide a matching passion for each other. Only Bree Wolf can make me believe that two such strongly mismatched individuals can come to love each other forever. But then with Bree Wolf, love always finds a way and there is always a happily ever after.
Christine seemed to me to be totally infuriating. But that seemed to be the one reason Wesley was most attracted to her. It’s a good thing because her infuriating personality created the situation to not only allow her sister and her husband to fall in love again but also led Wesley to realize his deep love for her. I loved that he remained steadfast and didn’t give up on her no matter how much it made his heart hurt.
An Unwelcome Proposal is another outstanding historical romance by Bree Wolf. I’ve had some of Ms. Wolf’s book buried in my Kindle for quite some time. And once I read one, I was happy to find more squirreled away on the e-reader. I’ve become a fan. An Unwelcome Proposal is a well-written book. Ms. Wolf has a way with characters and this cast of characters is outstanding. Christine is summoned to her twin’s side when her brother-in-law is injured in a riding accident and has lost 5 years of his memories, including being married. Wesley will do whatever it takes to help his brother, including helping Christine with her madcap plan. Wesley and Christine’s story is loaded with drama, humor and sexy bits. I enjoyed reading An Unwelcome Proposal and look forward to reading more from Bree Wolf. I already have my next book picked out and moved to the head of my reading lineup. An Unwelcome Proposal is book 4 of the Forbidden Love Novella Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
4 stars
I received a free copy of the historical novel An Unwelcome Proposal: A Regency Romance (A Forbidden Love Novella Series book 4) by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
An Unwelcome Proposal completes the fourth and last of the Forbidden series novellas and relates the rocky love story of Wesley and Christine. The story begins as The Forgotten Wife did with Wesley’s Brother’s riding accident and Christine’s call to her sister’s side. In an Unwelcome Proposal, the events are told from the view of Wesley and Christine. Wesley, the playboy, has trouble convincing his Sister in law, free spirited Christine, that marriage can be rewarding and not restricting. The story that unfolds is at times sad and other times humorous but ultimately has a heart warming and happy ending. While well written, I would have liked this story better if it was a stand alone or if it did not cover the same time frame as The Forgotten Wife.
Poorly written, lacks any references to life in that period except in the most cursory way. Plot is not well developed, nor are the characters. I couldn’t recommend this book.
I found this book to be trite and uninspired. I would skip it!
There are so many words that could describe Christine Dansby – stubborn, cynical, high spirited, inventive and rebellious. However, at heart she is compassionate and kind. She just does not believe in marriage for herself. She’s not even a “glass half empty” girl. In her opinion, the glass is doomed to be empty as she doesn’t expect anything good to happen in life unless she has full control over every situation. In an attempt to assist her sister after her husband’s accident, Christine concocts a plan that puts her in Wesley Everett’s orbit. He has been attracted to her ever since he met her, but Christine is very firm about letting him know that his chances of marriage to her are non-existent, given that marriage is another of those institutions she does not believe in. It takes making a plan such as Christine would concoct, for Wesley to finally get her attention and make her second guess her outlook on life. Although a clean romance, this one is far from sweet as Christine is hardly the kind of woman to engender sympathetic feelings. I enjoyed Wesley’s character, his firm stand with Christine and his honourable nature. Although this book is part of a series and some of the characters in previous books appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
We met Christine and Wesley in the 3rd novella of this series and I am totally amused at the reversal of roles where the male wants to get married and the female is adamant that she does not. This was such a brilliant concept and so unusual that it had me chuckling most of the time.
Bree Wolf has once again written an brilliant story.
Did I enjoy the it? Most definitely!
Would I recommend it? Again, yes, most definitely!
So if you want a really great read with lots of fun moments and a terrific story with really strong characters and a wonderful subject matter then you must read this novella (but I would suggest that you read the 3rd one first so that you get the full picture).
I read a free copy of this book and this my voluntary and unbiased review.
