The Long-Awaited Prequel to the RED RIVER OF THE NORTH SeriesTwenty-year-old Ingeborg Strand is certain she is destined to be an old maid. She’s had several suitors but none she deemed worthy of spending her life with. That is, until she meets a university student from Oslo, and feelings stronger than friendship begin to develop between them. But tragedy strikes, and the future begins to look … to look bleaker than ever.
Grief settles heavily over Ingeborg, and her mother suggests that she leave Norway and start afresh in America, as so many others have done before her. But how will she accomplish that with little money and no one to accompany her?
It isn’t long before she meets Roald Bjorklund, a widower who has been planning to go to America for some time, lured by the promise of free land. He’s a good man, a hard-working man–and he has a young son who desperately needs a mother. He’s clearly interested in Ingeborg, but is he the answer to her prayers? And what about love? This isn’t how she’s always imagined it.
Ingeborg Strand has a heartrending decision to make…

Bought the whole series. Couldn’t quite following the characters and history.
Lauraine Snelling is one of my favorite authors. Her series in N Dakota and the other series in Minnesota are so down to earth, full of history, and most of all the people are believers and she shares their faith and struggles and how they depend on their faith in our Heavenly Father.
unexpected events
great book, I could not stop reading, ended up getting the entire series
Enjoyed this book. After attending several scandavian festivales it was interesting to me to see some of the same dances performed and described in this book. Great read
I loved this book
Great prequel to a fantastic series of books!
An unusual book. Kind of left you needing the next book
I really didn’t expect the way it ended, but the book held my attention from beginning to end. Heart warming, family oriented and it did have a happy ending.
I didn’t grow up in a home with any kind of Norwegian roots, but as the author paints the lush, rural landscape, adds multi-dimensional characters, and describes the lives and loves of skilled, hard-working women and men of the land, in my heart and imagination I felt a connection with these stoic, but big-hearted people. Their vision for a better …
My all time favorite book series is Red River of the North by L. Snelling. This new book gave great insight into life in Scandinavia before their lives as pioneers in the Dakota Territory. I was born & raised along the Red River of the North on the Minnesota side from Norwegian & Sweedish ancestors. Many family stories of hardship, perseverance, & …
This author was one of my first contacts with Christian a Fiction. It was very realistic and the characters so real. They live in my mind as though they are relatives. The story is also very relatable.
I started off with books in the future and am circling back to the start. It is interesting to see how Ingeborg meets her first husband. The narrative was good but after listening to Stina in future books I miss the accents. Cannot wait for more!
If you are a Lorraine Snelling fan you will not be disappointed with this book which begins the Borklund series. The setting is a small village in Norway and the characters primarily the Strand family from which Ingeborg the lead character comes. There are uhhha host of interesting supporting characters, especially Nils Aarvidson, the love …
Entertaining, not the story that you think it will be. Makes you want to read the next book in this series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It makes me think about how hard life used to be for people (especially women) was back then.
I can’t get enough of this series. Excellent character developement. The storms and stuggles of life are challenging but never more so than when you are settling a new land and survival is the threat to your dreams of owning your land. You won’t want to miss a single book in this series.
The author is a wonderful story teller. She developed the characters well and the story is uplifting. Throughly enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend this author and book series.
She writes beautiful stories.
I read Untamed Heart after the first 2 books of the Red River of the North series, but I would recommend reading it first. It tells of Ingeborg ‘s life in Norway before marrying and immigrating to America.
It was informative about the life style in Norway in 1800s. It was romantic and tragic.
