I thoroughly enjoyed reading book five in the Indiana Amish Bride series. The story between Susannah and Micah is a bit different than your typical Amish romance stories. Why do you ask? Susannah is recovering from cancer and feels she will never fulfill and Amish man’s dreams of a large family. She has let that color her view of her future and at 25 years old feels like an old maid. Micah is straddling the fence between the Englisch world and his Amish upbringing. At 25 years old he wants to be Amish but at the same time cannot find his footing in the Amish world. He thinks outside the box and sometimes that goes against the stricter views of the Ordung. When they team up together they realize they bring out the best in each other.
An Unlikely Amish Match left me full of smiles. Vannetta Chapman has written another beautiful love story that is sure to bring happiness to anyone who reads her newest romance.
A sweet story you won’t want to miss!
Susannah Beiler is considered serious, cautious and mature for her age. But illness at a young age can do that to a person. Micah Fisher, on the other hand, is more of a free spirit. Maturity and seriousness don’t rank very high on his radar.
Shortly after Micah arrives in Susannah’s community, gossip begins about his bad boy reputation. Susannah tries to not to pass judgment, but she is concerned about him and how his ways will affect her friends, and she makes it her job to protect them. So, when Micah asks her about inviting one of her friends on an outing, Susannah shoots down that idea real quick. She also makes excuses about all of her other friends. Although Susannah had shut herself off from dating, she suggests herself as Micah’s “buddy/companion,” all in the name of protecting her friends. And there begins Susannah’s journey into new and unfamiliar territory.
Things are a little different for Micah. He’s the youngest child and only boy in his family. Therefore, he’s always been coddled and catered to. As a result, Micah struggles with being more “mature and serious.” He enjoys life in the moment, seizing the day so to speak. He and Susannah couldn’t be more polar opposites. Yet, Micah agrees with Susannah’s suggestion of being “buddies,” and thus also begins his own journey into new and unfamiliar territory.
How will these two “buddies” fare in their new journeys? Will Susannah let go of her fears and seriousness enough to begin enjoying life in the moment? Will Micah be able to let go of living in the moment to become more mature and serious? Will these polar opposites be able to see eye to eye?
Author Vannetta Chapman’s An Unlikely Amish Match is a sweet and wonderful story. It’s a story of love, mystery, forgiveness, tenderness, sadness, joy, hope and faith. It will draw you in from the start, keep you hooked, and leave you with a feeling of contentment and a smile on your face. It’s definitely a read you won’t want to miss.
****I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All comments and opinions are my own.
An Unlikely Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman is the fifth book in the Indiana Amish Brides series. Each book in the series can be read on its own. I thought the characters were developed and realistic. I like Vannetta Chapman’s engaging writing style. I was drawn right into the story and just wanted to keep reading to the end. Micah Fisher is twenty-five and has been spoiled by his seven older sisters. He is a rebel with a cocky attitude. Micah is also a hard worker and a quick learner. Susannah told her friend that Micah is “trouble wrapped up in suspenders.” Susannah’s cancer matured her giving her a serious personality. She follows the rules, does her chores, watches her younger twin sisters (they are a handful) and makes beautiful quilts. Micah and Susannah are complete opposites which leads to some humorous and playful moments. I thought it was clever when Micah came up with a way for them to fish at night. There are also some tender scenes that will touch your heart. One of my favorite scenes is when Susannah tells Micah about her cancer and not being able to have children. I like how faith is incorporated into the story. God directs our paths and he puts certain people in our life for a reason. His ways are not our ways. God’s love, forgiveness and prayer are featured Christian elements. We also see that each day is precious, and we should not waste a moment. There is a preview of The Amish Widow’s Hope by Marta Perry at the end of the book. I enjoyed reading An Unlikely Amish Match. I love it when a story leaves me with a smile on my face when I finish it. An Unlikely Amish match is an uplifting story with lively twins, an enterprising Amishman, an earnest maidel, a stubborn grandfather, a compassionate bishop, and surprising situations.
AN UNLIKELY AMISH MATCH by Vannetta Chapman is the fifth book in the Indiana Amish Brides series. It’s the wonderful story of Susannah Beile in an Amish community in Goshen, IN.
Having survived cancer, but losing the ability to have children and the man she loved in the process, she thinks she has nothing to offer in a marriage and destined to remain single. How can she ask an Amish man not to have the joy of a family when most Amish have large families? Plus her pain of rejection from the last man in her life causes her to be leery of men in general. When Micah Fisher comes to town, with a reputation to boot, she is determined to keep him away from the young unmarried girls in town, even if it means sacrificing her time by being his pretend date while he’s here.
Micah was the baby of the family and maybe babied too much. Never having had any real responsibilities, he always had a way of finding trouble. As a way of trying to get him to grow up and act like an adult, his father has sent him off packing to his grandparents to see how real life is hoping that some hard work will finally make a man of him. Micah can’t figure out what Susannah’s problem with him is or why his grandfather seems to automatically look at him as a failure, but he agreed to a 6 month stay on the farm – so here he will stay.
Taking Susannah on her offer to be his “date” while he’s in town, he’s determined to make the best of it and see if he can turn her around in the process. However, he’s leaving at the end of his time, so he needs to remember that no matter how cute she is. At least in her company, he can have a little fun in town. Can he tear down the walls around Susannah’s heart? Does he want to? Can he prove his reputation wrong and be seen for the man he wants to be? Will Susannah start to see another side of Micah? Will her duty to spend time with him turn to attraction? Must she guard her heart knowing this is only a temporary stopover for him? Can she get over her fear of the cancer coming back or that she’s unworthy of a happy future with a man in her life?
AN UNLIKELY AMISH MATCH is a fabulous inspirational story of faith, trust, hope and love. It shows us we have to have faith that God has a plan for us, trust that God has us in his hands, believe and have hope for the future and to open ourselves up to love – from God and our fellow man. While everyone had Susannah and Micah’s characters pegged a certain way, we are shown that first impressions are often in error. That the true character of a person is through their actions and their feelings of the heart and not as dictated by others or gossip. Although part of a series, AN UNLIKELY AMISH MATCH can most definitely be read as a standalone book. It’s a book that will having you shaking your head at two opposites that can’t see what a perfect couple they could be. Then it takes you through the obstacle course that each think they have to travel only to find out that things aren’t as they sometimes seem. And then it will have you smiling happily by the end of this feel good book full of faith and romance. A big FIVE STARS reading!
Micah Fisher has come to stay with his grandparents. Their neighbor Susannah Beiler thinks Micah could have a bad influence on other girls, so she insists he spend time with her instead. He good-naturedly agrees, and, inevitably, they start to grow closer. It was interesting to watch their relationship grow and how he interacted with her young twin sisters. The endearing story wraps its words around your heart. You can’t help but root for both main characters to find God’s best for their lives. The author always spins a great tale and creates realistic characters that are easy to relate to. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Thank you in advance to the author, Vannetta Chapman, as well as JustRead Publicity Tours for providing a complimentary copy to review. A positive review was NOT required, and all words are my own.
Not only is Amish Romance a fairly new genre to me (this is the second Amish romance book I’ve read); but the author, Vannetta Chapman, is new to me as well. In addition to writing Amish fiction; the author also writes:
* Amish Cozy Mysteries (these I would LOVE to find out more about)
* Romantic Suspense (one of my FAVORITE genres)
* Contemporary Romance (another favorite)
* Christian Dystopian
As far as the book …
Eagle-eyed readers and fans of Harlequin’s lines (any of them), will notice the cover change. With the other series, the logos were reduced and markings were placed on the left side. This series got a more simplified “banner” and looks like a blue spine color. In months past I saw red, pink, maroon, green, and blue spines. So, I guess this is a move to make a more standard color for the series.
Anyone who has read my blog, or knows me, knows I don’t read Amish fiction. I don’t dislike the genre; I just haven’t read much of it. My only encounter with Amish romance (or rather romantic suspense) was Witness (1985) with Harrison Ford. My how that barn dance scene stands out. And, yes there was some controversy with the film.
Anyway …
Right off the idea of a “bad Amish boy” has me interested! And, after getting to know Susannah and why she was the way she was – my heart broke for her. The idea of pretending to date Micah to keep him away from the other girls was adorable. Already this book mixes humor, sadness, and a bit of fun together.
It is part of the “Indiana Amish Brides” series, though it completely acts as a standalone, so you don’t have to read the other four books. I might go looking for them down the road though.
There is such a conflicting honesty about this one – and, we learn that from Micah. He has an “Englisch” (not a typo, they spell it that way) phone and wants to connect to the Englisch world, but does enjoy the simplicity of his Amish life/roots. He is a rebel because he doesn’t understand certain things or why they are in place. Nor does he feel there should be the rules. He is also not “committed” to the faith, whereas Susannah is.
Micah’s grandparents are very strict and in one scene this is shown by his grandfather (daddi).
Susannah has little to no interest in getting married, partly because of her medical past. This is the second Love Inspired (with even a Heartwarming one in there) book that deals with “CANCER”. As much as I hate adding a spoiler, those who are fighting it or knows someone who is might appreciate the warning.
She does act like she is damaged goods, but yet isn’t treated as such by the majority of people she is around. She also has the common fear of a relapse.
Amish language is used. The author appears to use what looks like a cross of Pennsylvania Dutch and perhaps another one mixed. As my grandmother’s family once settled in Pennsylvania Dutch country (which explains a spelling in their surname), I guess I inherited some ability to understand and be familiar with Pennsylvania Dutch. Given the content of the sentence – it was easy to figure out who was being referred to and what was being said, and almost the pronunciation as thought I could hear it.
Despite Susannah being the front character, I really enjoyed Micah’s journey more. I enjoyed watching how he matured and after a tragedy he stepped right up to “be a man”. It also broke my heart to see how his grandparents, particularly his daddi, treated him. However, I am sure that as an Englischer looking in, it would seem strange, if not cruel. So, I have to remember to keep the context when I am reading.
Even though this was a “Love Inspired” book, and Susannah’s father was the bishop, I found this was lighter on the faith presentation than usual L.I books. That didn’t bother me one way or the other.
As with most of the Harlequin books I’ve read (Love Inspired, Love Inspired Suspense, Heartwarming, and Intrigue); this was hard to put down. I was halfway into this one, and almost dozing off to sleep before I could summon the willpower to put it down. Needless to say that the writer’s style was one that allowed the story to progress naturally and keep me (the reader) interested – perhaps too much.
This book was an absolute delight, and definitely made me see Amish romance in a new way.
Who is Susannah Beiler? What about Deborah? How do they know oneanother and where are they from? What is Susannah great at? Who are Sharon and Shiloh? What medical issue did Susannah go through that we learn about? Who is Micah Fisher and where is he from? Why is he here? Who is Samuel? What do we learn about him? What happens when Micah keeps seeming to make all the wrong choices? What do his daddi and mammi say and do? What happens on the day that Micah, Susannah, Shiloh, and Sharon go to the river? Why do they go? How does what happens to Micah chance the course of his story, more than once? Read and see what happens!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
The author gives us a story of an Amish man who is not wanting to leave his faith, but really not ready to embrace it either. He is sent from his home in Maine to live with his Grandparents in Indiana, with the hopes he will grow up, and at 25 is he running out of time.
I liked the character of Micah, and even if he is still sewing his wild oats, he seems to have a good heart.
We also are offered a young woman who has not had an easy time, she has dealt with a hard time in her young life, but has persevered and love how she goes about her journey, and being the Bishops daughter she does a good job.
Can these two opposites get together? Will Micah’s grandfather accept him as he is? This is a read that will make you think, and be careful and don’t get too comfortable there are some wild obstacles that appear!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin. and was not required to give a positive review
An Unlikely Amish Match was a really good story. I enjoyed watching the romantic relationship develop between Susannah and Micah, two people who definitely seemed to be opposites at the opening of the novel.
The author did a very good job of helping me see the real Susannah and the real Micah. They were both nice people, yet Susannah had faced challenges that forced her to grow up and make some decisions earlier than Micah had to. But Micah finally had the chance to mature and to take responsibility for his actions after moving to Goshen. I enjoyed their story so much.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Vannetta Chapman has written many lovely Amish stories, and I’ve enjoyed all of them. Susannah’s story, however, touched my heart in a special way.
Sometimes our past can keep us from moving forward into the plan that God has for us. This was true for Susannah, with her recovery from cancer. Since she could not have children, she sometimes felt that she was “damaged” and wondered if she should ever marry. Micah struggled with meeting the expectations of others and felt as if he could never live up to what his family expected of him. He wanted to continue to live his carefree life. When Susannah and Micah meet, they look at life from two opposite points of view. Susannah is more serious; Micah is more light-hearted. They soon realize they belong together, but they must first go through some unexpected circumstances together to truly grasp the beautiful future that God has for them.
The author has given us a story full of faith, hope, and love. I was again challenged to trust God with all aspects of my life.

This was a fun read with Micah and Susannah. Micah’s rebellious attitude and being spoiled by his sisters gave way to his immaturity and not taking responsibility at the age of 25. He was sent to his grandparents in Indiana to instill values and a work ethic but he was still his cocky self. Working for Bishop Beiler gave him an opportunity to interact more with Susannah. She had set herself up to remain single after all she had endured in life. Her decision to be his girlfriend while he was Indiana gave her a chance to enjoy life, even though their activities were questioned by the ministry. There were some unexpected heart pounding events that may just wake individuals up on their view of life. There is a good faith message of God’s love and forgiveness along with individuals learning to find forgiveness for their own actions. “Life was precious, and it was best to take nothing for granted.” I highly recommend this latest Love Inspired book by Chapman to readers.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was under no obligation to post a review. I have expressed my own opinion.
Book #5 of the Indiana Amish Brides was a fun and engaging book. Susannah Beiler has decided to protect the other young Amish women from Micah Fisher. He is definitely not your model Amish man and Susanna decides that the other women won’t seek after him if she decides to date him herself.
This was a really good book and has lots of touching and tender moments in it. And there was humor as well. It was one of those reads that you decide to read in one sitting because you don’t want to stop reading. Micah was a lovable character even though he doesn’t always abide by the strict Amish rules and regulations. There are some surprising twists in the story and the characters grow and learn about themselves and others. Kind of like we do! I enjoyed this story very much.
I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own.
An Unlikely Amish Match ( An Indiana Amish Bride #5)
By: Vannetta Chapman
This is a Love Inspired Inspirational Romance and I really loved it. Loved the characters ,both were well written. A young Amish man , Micah, is sent to live with his grandparents for awhile to see if it will help him to settle down from his running around. Susannah is the Bishop’s daughter and she is willing to pretend to date Micah herself so he will not hurt the hearts of the single women. What about her heart? Will this work out or is she asking for trouble ?
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that Had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Another wonderful book from Vannetta Chapman. You will not read long before you fall in love with the two main characters. Susannah, an Amish Bishop’s sweet daughter is wise beyond her years due to a battle with cancer. Micah, the rebel Amish man, gets sent by his parents to live with his grandparents to try and get him to settle down and grow up. At first Susannah wants nothing to do with him, but as time goes on, they spend some time together. Can complete opposites build a relationship under these circumstances? You will not want to miss reading this exciting Love Inspired book!
