An Unexpected Scandal is the first book in Jules Bennett’s Lockwood Lightning series. This was a fabulous book that I could not put down. I was hooked from the opening pages witnessing Nick Lockwood uncover a secret that his mother had kept from him his entire life. And then, for Silvia to spring her surprise at the outset while Nick was at his lowest. Wow, just wow! I highly recommend reading An Unexpected Scandal and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.
4 1/2 STARS!
An attention grabbing first in series! Kicking off her new Lockwood Lightning series Jules Bennett takes us knee deep into drama with AN UNEXPECTED SCANDAL and it is so much fun! I’m looking forward to more to come in this family saga.
Nick Campbell is quickly endeared to a reader’s heart when we learn that he’s only just found out that his crooked nemesis in the business world is none other than his dear old dad.
Silvia Lane is an accomplished businesswoman and though it goes against her normal mode of operation, she can’t resist a night of passion with Nick that leads to a shocking discovery a few weeks later … there’s a baby on the way!
I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a fast paced plot filled with secrets, passion and the groundwork of an interesting story moving forward. Really enjoyed!
I absolutely loved Nick and Silvia’s story! Jules Bennett writes books so full of heart and her characters always have undeniable chemistry. I am so excited about this new series!
An Unexpected Scandal (Lockwood Lightning Book 1)!
This was a wonderful start to Jules Bennett’s newest series, Lockwood Lightning). In this book, Nick is a billionaire working with Silvia who is an architect. Her firm, and she, was hired by Nick’s mother initially to rebuild her home to be an upscale retreat. The only thing that’s needed and seems to be a major stumbling block, is, getting a liquor licenses serve non-Rusty Lockwood moonshine.
When Nick is having a very bad day, burying his mother, he is given a letter with some very disturbing news, AND then, his architect with whom he had a one night stand, is pregnant with his child! Now how can he take care of the woman who is determined to handle things on her own, keep the pregnancy a secret, stop his growing attraction to her, and deal with Rusty so he can fulfil his late mother’s dream.
The intrigue, secondary characters and the swift movement of the plot, kept me turning pages waiting to find out what would happen! This book did not disappoint! I can’t wait for Book 2 to find out more about the news Nick received in his mother’s letter!
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
Very fast pace story.
I loved Nick and Silva together. Both with not such great childhoods coming together.
Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Another hit by Jules Bennett! An Unexpected Scandal was a quick, fun, and enjoyable read. I really loved it.
Absolutely amazing start to this trilogy! Nick and Silvia are both wounded souls unsure of their path except for their careers. Finding their way through the trials and intense chemistry give you an incredible story.
In this first book of Jules Bennett’s newest series, Lockwood Lightning, billionaire Nick Campbell and architect Silvia Lane can’t resist one another. They need to, however, because she works for the company Nick hired to rebuild his late mom’s project home. In this unexpected pregnancy romance, An Unexpected Scandal, Author Jules Bennett has completely hooked me! I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline and the way the relationship built. I love the loose ends that will continue on into the next book in the series. 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5).
I am really not one for to be continued type books. And this one, while not leaving us hanging with a major cliffhanger persay, leaves me slightly unsatisfied for a book one resolution.
Nick just lost his mother and received not one but two earth shattering confessions in the span of a week or so. He is reeling to say the least. He knows what he has to do but can he juggle both his personal and professional lives to do so?
Silvia is trying to make a name for herself at her new job. Getting involved with a client would be the kiss of death. Why can’t she stay away from Nick, especially knowing it may cost her, at the very least, her job. Seeking him out at his mother’s grave site is the last place she wants to be.
This is a great start to a new series by the author, Lockwood Lightning Trilogy. This book left me a little on the unsatisfied part with wanting a little more in terms of resolution of the main antagonist. But I guess the next 2 will continue to play a major role in the take down of our villain. Always a Jules fan, I continue to enjoy every book she puts out into my world. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy without expectations. All opinions expressed are my own.
What a great start to this new series. I really enjoyed meeting our hero and heroine, Nick and Silvia. When you meet them and get to know them you would think they might have nothing in common, but once they start getting to know each other and sharing their stories, they definitely have more in common then they thought. From the beginning I wanted to know what was in that letter, but once it was out there, what do you do with that bombshell? You could really feel Nick’s love for his mother come through and I can’t wait to see his project come to fruition as a way to honor her. Two head strong people; Nick just wants to give Silvia the support he thinks she needs and to be there for her like no one was there for him and Silvia is headstrong on her own and doesn’t really need someone to be there for her. But it definitely all worked out for them especially the way Silvia took the lead and made things happen and I loved the way this ended and their stop at Double Down Donuts, that was a perfect part of this story. Now, what do we do with Rusty Lockwood. I have to admit I loved the scene at the poker game with Nick and Sam encroaching into his territory and I truly don’t think he knew what to do. However once Nick confronted him with the information he had, he turned on Nick then and I was disappointed that he would turn the tables and have Nick followed, even though it shouldn’t have surprised me. I have an ‘inkling’ that Nick and Sam’s business ‘relationship’ might end up being more of a surprise to both of them, but I’ll see what happens in the next book in this series. But back to Rusty Lockwood, he definitely needs and deserves to be taken down a notch and I’m hoping that Nick with Sam’s help can get that taken care of. Perfect beginning to this series!
Ms. Bennett does it again!!!
She writes stories with intrigue & heart. Two damaged souls who find hope, love and family with each other.
Looking forward to the remainder of the series.
Nick is having a bad day. On his mother’s funeral he finds out in a letter that the man he hates is his father. He also finds out that his one night stand is pregnant with his baby. Sylvia wants to keep it secret because he works in a “man’s world” and doesn’t want to be seen differently. She’s also had a tough life and wants to give her baby every she can. I really love how Nick and Sylvia had attraction and chemistry. I love that Jules draws you in and you can’t put the book down and makes you want to live in the worlds she creates.
Nick finds out that, the man he hates is his father, father he never knew. Then he learns, he’ll be a father.
Life is not easy for Sylvia, now she finds out she is pregnant. She will give this baby everything she can, all the love, but first, she has to let the father of the baby to know.
Love this story.
HOOKED from the first page ! I’m thrilled to share my most honest review in exchange for an early copy of this fabulous book! What a great start to this new series ! Nick & Sylvia are quite the stunning couple
With heartfelt past situations that make this mountainside resort romance full of sexy surprises! This particular heroine is by far one of Jules strongest yet & it’s fun to see her navigate this Employer//Employee relationship with her current situation AND Nicks secrets he’s been dealing with! I’m SO looking forward to see what comes next in this mountainside Distillery Series!! Well done !!
I loved this book. I love Jules Bennett. Awesome read.
Jules Bennett has done it again. From the very first line of this book you will be sucked in to the story. Nick and Silvia met when she came on board to help Nick and his later mother on a job. The sparks flew and they went into flames together for a hot one night stand that Silvia instigated..but when they meet again she has news for him. He has just found out some not good news though and it effects him..But they spend time together trying to find out what will become of them. But both have been through the ringer and they have a similar background story that they didn’t realize they would have. Can their hurts and untrustfulness be overcome to become a family and show that they are better than their pasts? Will Nick find what his mother told him about? This story is good and wonderful. There is a bad guy that Nick is fighting to bring down and Silvia is trying to make it in her world..Please read as you won’t regret one minute of it
