Her heart was a target… who stole away her reputation might still be trusted with her heart.
His aim must be true…
Connor Brice seeks a long overdue revenge on the baron. And what better way to launch his campaign than to steal the lovely Miss Ward for his own? A quick “compromising” and an even quicker wedding ought to do. But if Connor wants to establish any sort of domestic tranquility, he’ll have to regain Adelaide’s trust and choose what means more to him—his thirst for vengeance or his need for Adelaide.

Personally I like my historic romances with more steam and descriptive bedroom scenes. The steam level was barely a sizzle. It was more clean than I am generally accustomed to. Or typically enjoy. I need deets.
However saying that, I did enjoy the storyline – like some have said I think the editor could have probably cut 100 pages out because there was a lot of general babble for babble’s sake. Something you would think would be important to the story or the series but nope never spoken about again. Like the h never sees the carving of herself. She also never speak to the ladies from the party again even though they claimed to established friendship and protection of their husbands.
But I loved the romance between the two. I loved how enamored the H was with the h from the very beginning. He might have had some other motivations like revenge but he always wanted the H since he first saw her. And that really grabbed my heart.
This is def a 3.5 star book – but really too clean to round up to 4 IMO.
An unconventional story of love and hate. Lies and misunderstandings lead the way in this story of revenge and love in the making. It was action packed and ends with a bang. I enjoyed the read hand have read others in this series.
Loved every minute. Great characters. Classuc house party theme sent sideways.
I liked that a story of hatred and revenge let the love shine through.
Unforgettable characters, tense drama, full of surprises. Loved it.
Really good follow-up to the first book, but still a standalone story. I really loved Connor and Adelaide both, and I enjoyed the concept of revenge and necessity bringing two people together – and seeing how they could learn to become more to each other than the practicality.
Unfortunately, this was barely a 4 star for me because I kept experiencing moments of missed opportunity where I was like… “Why don’t they do [whatever]” or “I wish they had done [something] else here” and so on. It just annoyed me that these distractions kept creating frustration points that pulled me out of the story and into analyzing the storytelling.
I loved Adelaide as a character, she was very practical and responsible and yet I felt like I could have enjoyed her more if she had been willing to go “all in” on the revenge with Connor. He was, an excellent character and my favorite in the story, but I felt I was missing some of the connection and sympathy that could’ve been built up for him because his past traumas weren’t really talked about in any detail. There was some interesting plot, but I think it came at the expense of less time with the romance.
Either way, still a good story but not one that I wish had been just a little better.
So enjoyable
A pleasant story. She’s enchanting and such a string personality. He’s a sweetheart blinded by revenge. I was amazed how much they go through. Such a great story.
Good story.
Mills & Boone enjoyable romp lords and ladies
Wonderful easy read. An ‘escape’ read much needed these days!
I think my favorite part about this book was that the after the first few chapters, the hero straight up tells the heroine the “big deception” metioned in the blurb. I don’t consider this a major spoiler because, as I said, this is done fairly early on. I was intrigued by the plot initially but was not looking forward to potentilly having to read an entire angst-filled story where our hero loves our heroine oh-so-much and yet can’t seem to tell her the truth about the basis of their entire marriage. I am happy to report this was not the case here. To top it all off, I found these characters to be fairly witty look forward to reading more by this author!
Well developed plot and dialogue!
The story lines were good choices, but the delivery was somewhat lacking. The unnecessary sex is what killed this for me.
Great characters
light easy upbeat reading
What a wonderful story! I loved every minute. The characters were well developed and interesting, the story moved along at just the correct pace. I really recommend this story!
