Her heart was a target… who stole away her reputation might still be trusted with her heart.
His aim must be true…
Connor Brice seeks a long overdue revenge on the baron. And what better way to launch his campaign than to steal the lovely Miss Ward for his own? A quick “compromising” and an even quicker wedding ought to do. But if Connor wants to establish any sort of domestic tranquility, he’ll have to regain Adelaide’s trust and choose what means more to him—his thirst for vengeance or his need for Adelaide.

Adelaide, at twenty seven, is a spinster but feels she must now marry to save her family from the poorhouse. She’s being courted by Sir Robert and expects him to propose at that evening’s ball. Instead she is intercepted by Connor Brice who asks her to avoid a proposal so he can woo her himself. Adelaide has no idea that she’s become a pawn in a war of revenge between two half brothers. One focus of the novel is Connor’s inability to express his feelings; another is his focus on revenge to the exclusion of all else. Minor characters include Adelaide’s sister Isobel, brother Wolfgang, and nephew George. The two characters closest to Connor are Gregory and Michael. Each character plays a key role in the plot’s development. This was a charming book.
